Pretty much the same reason why I use Courier font and MLA guidelines for English papers, and the other more scientific gig (forget it's name) with Times New Roman for Mathematics/Physics.

I think you can download UK English dictionaries instead of US English, but every time I download something from Microsoft I lose control of my computer. After a while you learn to ignore and eventually to embrace the squiggly red lines.

Sometimes I'm glad I only have notepad and wordpad and crappy Lotus Smartsuite at home, instead of Word.
