I was contemplating freedom of movement within one's demesne and realized that considering it is ones domain, the freedom of movement within isnt that much greater than outside. Sure, geos and aqua's have demesne travel, and center, but that really isnt much.
My idea is to allow mages to place dolmens, or way stones, or mirror pools, within their demesne, and use them as demesne travel targets. One would have to travel to dolmen12345 and such, to use it, and it would help balance out the defensive weakness of the class by giving them higher mobility in their demesnes. It would require some restrictions, such as not being able to place a dolmen less than 3 rooms away from any other dolmen, and the dolmens would fade away after a month or two.
EDIT: The power cost to place each stone would be 5 power.
What do you think? Would it give the archetypes a little nudge, without making them overpowered?

I love it.

I was thinking something similar to that, like maybe an ability to goto the center of your demesne from anywhere, even outside it...

I don't really like the dolmen thing, since the lack of mobility thing seems to be a balancing factor of the demesne being able to span so large an area, but I think a teleport nexus to the centre from anywhere sounds -perfectly- reasonable.

If you guys get this then your room-limit needs to be reduced. It's ridiculous that you can control such a huge personal area already, without being able to zip around it at will.

Since Druids only have pathtwist (which is utterly insulting compared with demesne summon), I think they should get this to help make up for the fact that they cannot instantly a summon a target to them at whim.

This adds no real extra offensive to the mage class, merely greater longevity. As it is, if we get stuck with a knight who can tank us, we are screwed because none of the mage classes have any noticable defense. This would allow that lack of defense, which makes great RP sense to remain, yet also allow mages the ability to survive against some of these massive meat-tanks by flitting in and out of the room at will while within their demesne. Guardians have catacombs or hermit, which dont work just in a local area but across the entire continent. This would be something like a localized catacombs in effect, but costing a fair bit of power, and effort to set up and maintain. The reason guardians dont get butchered against other classes like mages do is because they can escape with haste if necessary. Mages have even less defense, but no way to move quickly away.
It would give mages no real edge in killing an enemy, just a greater ability to stay alive via craftyness and cunning.

What's worst is that Pathtwist only works when you're in the same room as the target and only lasts for like the first time they exit the room.

Narsrim, perhaps instead of straight summon, because of their already insane demesnes, something a bit easier to resist? With, say, 50% less chance of working than the current one, something like, 'A branch whips down, grasping your ankle. Flailing, you are pulled into the air and hurled from tree to tree by thin, whiplike branches, eventually dumped at the feet of (name) who peers down at you.' And give them the ability to move to their demesne from anywhere, not increased mobility. Or to mark, say, 2 edges of it that they can move to like travel, for 1 power to move, and 5 to drop the thing.

A Via travel for mages to those within their demense. Offensive, and defensive.
Shiri2005-02-03 19:16:22
Don't they, um, have that already?
Vesar2005-02-03 20:25:49
Yea, we have that already. Costs 3 power.
Akraasiel2005-02-04 13:00:48
This would be more of a via between one or two points in the demesne other than the center, except it targets a way stone, or dolmen as the target.
