its my view that it pays to wait for one RL year before losing your credits to forgetting skills.

Wha? Shoo shoo!
It's a game. People switch to see what fits them and their role the best. Now people are going to hound me "It's not just a game!!"

Sadly this was one of the main reasons I suicided Elessar. The lesson loss from one class/guild to another was really horrendous, having to move them between pools. It really just ruins the game for people who can't buy credits like me.

Hope you did notice the reduction we made on the lesson loss when forgetting skills (we announced it anyway), which was partially decided because of this thread.
Aye, we do listen!
Aye, we do listen!

I noticed it, and thank you for reducing it. I finally made the change I had been considering since day 2, due to the change.

Ah. Didn't notice that. Sorry. That implement was after I suicided Elessar anyway.

I know Achaea just recently reduced the amount of lesson loss to change class, so what do you all think?

In Achaea if you change class, now you lose half of your lessons if you are a full guild/house member. period.

When i left the geomancers for the shadowdancers i was 70% Mythical Geomancy, almost Trans, Expert Illusions, somewhere around 50%, and Virt Dreamweaving. I got to the shadowdancers and barely got Mythical Wicca, only got to low Master in Night, and didn't have anything at ALL left over for hexes/healing. And then i switched back and didn't have enough for Myth Geo, didn't even Master Illusions, and put about 15 in Psionics. Luckily i was able to borrow 40 credits to get Myth in Geomancy so i could have my staff back.
And about the guild hopping, the guilds can say NO. If the guilds decide to let guild-hoppers in, that's their fault. Don't cripple people please, it's really not nice. It's not that bad of roleplay to switch without lesson loss. After all, you are new to the skills and are still kind of offish, as a brute would be if he went mage/guardian. I think that if you switch to another guild inside of your city, you shouldn't lose lessons in lessonpool transfer.

You should always lose some lessons when switching guilds. Just to prevent constant mindless guildhopping "just to check it out".
Unknown2005-07-08 08:12:03
I agree with Stangmar. Preventing people from guildhopping should be taken care of by the guild administration, not by game mechanics. There should be a lesson loss, yes, but it's still kinda harsh.
And yes I know, realism, but we don't care much about realism in many other parts of the game either. But seeing as lessons have to do with RL money, I reckon "not screwing people" > "realism"
As KidHendrix said, it's just a game.

Is there more whining to be done? (Yes, I had this topic set with e-mail reminders )
I thought everything was fine? What with most skill choices not limited between guilds (Well, now that's changing with the Dreamweaving/Runes/Psionics/(Future Druidry thingy) and Healing/Hexes/Astronomy/Tarot) and all. By now I'm sure everyone has skill lists, seen mechanics in logs (Only important if you're going to put your skills to use.. unlike some people ), and well.. sorted out their roleplay.
But if not I'll prance around here more.

As a side note I just read through 6 pages just to realize what David was referrencing was on the sixth page. Oh well.. memories!

I didn't read every single post (sorry) but perhaps declaring the guild you want to move to could lessen the loss atleast somewhat and be fun for rp.
imagines
Saran slumps down sadly, surrounded by his fae friends. He waves to them and bids them goodbye.
(faereturn)
Saran declares that he wishes to leave the Moondacers, Asks (someone) if he may join the Hartstone. (kinda like a reverse invitation where it is targeted to a apropriately empowered member of the new guild)
Saran has left the Moondancers and Become a Member of Hartstone.
doing it this way allows for a very minor loss and promotes rp.
:shrugs: anyone like it?
