Being killed while spiking cannot be construed as 'unprovoked'.

Doing the actual spiking and not killing the spectres, yes, but Rafael was telling me if I catch any Merian killing Spectres, to report them immediately to Rafael so he could fine them/kick them out of Celest. So, I'd assume Merian would want to protect Old Celest.

Considering that they (you) brought the destruction of the Celestian Empire on yourselves, how is protecting already dead spectres going to help anything...other than perhaps falsely salving your wounded consciences?
And neither of you have given a solid reason.
Saying 'Being killed while spiking cannot be construed as 'unprovoked'.' is a statement, with no reason whatsoever.

Killing the 'innocent' from a Celestian perspective spectres and using their corpses to strengthen the most powerful Tainted object on prime is plenty reason for someone sworn to destroy said object.
