Moondance Tower

This is sort of a question for the designer of the guildhall of the Moondancers: Why do we have a room for each element? I understand that a lot of RL beliefs regarding witchcraft/nature worship involve the veneration of various elements, but I think it is slightly out of place in Lusternia's universe.

For one, there is no skill or ability in any of our skillsets that I can think of which reference particular elements or the concept of Nature being split into elements at all. Also, there is the fact that in this world every city is associated with an element, so why would the spiritualists of an anti-city nature organization revere them?

The reason that I ask is that because of these rooms it encourages our guild-based philosophies to be based on a worship of the elements, but I think this is rather strange for us.

From HELP ELEMENTALISM:
The prime skill of all mages is to master the primal elements of earth,
wind, fire and air. Once mastery is completely, the goal of every mage is
to move on to specialize in the one element associated with their city's
nexus of power.

I feel that the Moondancers should instead revere different kinds of spirits, or fae, or some other set of fundamentals that is more in line with our natural ties.

Anyone's thoughts? (Not necessarily just moondancers)

The designer of the Moondance Tower, built about a year ago, is no longer around. Maybe speak to your patron?
Elryn2005-02-04 03:23:41
Well, I can, but I wanted to see if it was just me being silly, or if there was a good reason for it. tongue.gif

sounds like just bad room planning, from a constantly changing universe.

Go talk to your patron!

I thought the same thing when I saw it, Elryn.

I always though it'd have great potential for rituals, except it's indoors and indoor rituals are teh suck.
Faethan2005-02-04 07:29:39
I've seen a ritual done in there. It was pretty well written, but I didn't see how any of the things they did with the elements made sense with our history.
Unknown2005-02-04 07:47:49
Elements are part of any kind of ritual. There's supposed to be spirits in em...and you know Merloch and his spirits.

My imature statement: If he loves em so much, why doesn't he just marry em?
Elryn2005-02-04 11:05:43
Well, Elryn is half-fae.

Most of the Tower is outdoors, I cannot remember if those rooms are or not. I think they are.
Lunarisiil2005-02-04 16:50:26
Those rooms are indoors.

And many Wiccan rituals call forth the spirits of the Elements and Directions, to help in the ritual itself.

The Ethereal Plane is bound to each of the elemental planes by a gate (Well, I imagine there were gates to Air and Fire before they went 'poof), so I think it makes perfect sense that they have some elemental rooms hanging off to the sides.

Though the thing is that each element represents a city, so wouldn't the Moondancers want to get rid of any kinds of links to cities, by removing the elements?
On a side note.. Earth hurts plants with the taint, Water floods plants, fire would burn plants.. but what would air do? Would an Air Demense have bad effects on herbs like the others?
Unknown2005-02-05 06:51:54
Plants need earth to get their nutrients, water to grow and make their food, wind/air to carry their pollen, and fire to... well... nothing.
Unknown2005-02-05 07:49:13
Have you ever heard of controlled fires? Fire does help plants.
Yrael2005-02-05 10:23:01
There are trees that need fire to release their seeds.
Unknown2005-02-05 11:00:19
There are seeds that first must be scorched before they will even begin to grow.

One could just as well argue that the Moondancers want to reclaim the elements back from the cities and back to being part of nature.
Desdemona2005-02-05 23:42:43
Following the established line of thought, first off... the elements of fire, water, wind, earth, quintessence where thought to be the components of everything in creation/nature (European belief). Throughout history, there has been thoughts of elements in every kind of ancient mysticism. Of most importance, would be the so called nature elementals which were supposed to be beings that existed within each element and were a semi-bond between the spirit and corporeal world. One said creatures is the gnome, I believe, thought to be the "spirit" of the earth element. So, for wiccans and alchemists that the Moondancers are, the elements scene isn't at all irrelevant.
Elryn2005-02-06 08:42:45
All the points about elements being found in nature and so on are fine, but that is in RL wiccanish philosophy. In Lusternia, we know elements are the domain of city mages, and city nexii. The commune nexuses and our skills are based around living forces, not pure and static ones.

In reference to the Ethereal plane linking to the Elemental planes, well, this also means the Elemental planes link to the Ethereal. Does that mean that Geomancers and Aquamancers should revere Nature and have extensive gardens throughout their guildhall?

The issue is not that we draw on the idealogy of separating the material world into elements - I'm sure almost all Lusternian organizations subscribe to some extent - but rather that it appears to be a central component of Moondancer belief and practice.
