I am kinda of curious of what people think of a pacifist sect, or order if you will. A sect where the members would be protected from being killed. Something like divine grace.
It would be nice if you can quest and influence, not in-play villages, in peace, without the fear of getting jumped just for being there.
Of course, when I say pacifist, I do mean pacifist. Questing and influencing only. No bashing of any sort.
And the idea of it being a sect or an order, is so that it would be harder to abuse.

Sorry, I'm thumbs-down for anything that protects people from being attacked. There are enough safeguards, and potentially more coming, to keep people from being attacked excessively...and it doesn't make sense to me for people to move through enemy territory influencing or whatever without fear.
On a more meta-game level, it has always been my feeling that pacifism is something to be role played, not something to hide behind. Pacifists die all the time. The fact that they die for their beliefs makes their point stronger. Its too easy to be a pacifist if you're magically exempt from harm.
As you might have noticed, there is also a lot of questing and influencing that directly effects other people and organizations...why should someone get to seduce city guards or raise Crow without the chance of getting attacked?
IRE policy has always made the point that the potential for death makes the game more real, and attracts our passions in a way that a peaceful game can't. I think it should stay this way. Role play a pacifist, by all means...you'll have the respect of people like me for picking a belief and standing up for it in role. But I don't see any reason you deserve protection for doing it.

Hmm.. I've never really known of a pacifist be rid of the possibility of dying. In a game like Lusternia, I am sure it could probably be coded... but why? Life begets death.

Whoah.. killing someone for seducing anyone seems rather extreme.
"Hey.. look at that girl she's giving Robbins the eye"
"Oh crap! She needs to die!"
From an rp perspective I suppose if you were jealous and wanted that guard for yourself and you had killed the person flirting with him or her.. but I don't know... perhaps I am babbling.. it just seems wrong.. especially since influencing was meant to be a non-violent sport.. well not village influencing.. ah well.

Seducing guards makes them attack the person's enemies, it's not just an RP thing.

Yep, I seduced all of Dairuchi once when it came up for influnce, when I was still a Mag, and enemied a bunch of people from Celest/Serenwilde.
Its kinda hard to influnce things that are attacking you.

Back on topic... Yeah, protecting pacifists isn't really what should go on. Martyrdom is fun!
Ialie2005-02-08 14:30:43
There is so much conflict that it is hard for Ialie to be pacifist. She tries so hard and cries when she feels there is no other choice. She will never be the type of person to jump people but if someone comes to her swinging swords.. well... most likly she will run away with a loud "EEK" but sometimes you just can't run.. there is no where to go...

What Ialie says is true, but thankfully dying in IRE games isn't permanent, and experience doesn't really matter for a pacifist. I got up to level 70 and now I am never going to earn another level for the rest of Eirene's life! I don't need to. i have all the neocredits available. So pacifism is plausible. I do it. It sucks when people kill you.... and kill you they will, don't have any illusions about it.... but you gotta take it in stride. When they do, it's always fun to make fun of them on shouts about them being so weak that they need to kill pacifists. (side note: If you make fun of people, expect to die too, and your children if you have any)

Heh, thats when you hire someone who isn't a pacifist to act as a bodyguard.

Yeah, I'm getting kinda fed up so I'm thinking of getting high in riding and getting like a legendary steed that can defend me a bit. Play the overprotective animal part, kinda like Rajah for the princess in Aladdin!
