Knights can "steal" with SlapKnuckle, it makes them drop what they're wielding, if you hit the arms, and they are in a moderate wound stage. And if they aren't gripping.

Didnt ya catch my title the other day? Comrade Akraasiel Tliwx, the Red Green Thumb! But I still loves you Guido. Though now I just have to nod and smile when they send the novices out to kill you. Sorry man.

A good guy who steals would be uber super. If you were furrikin you could be like the animated Robin Hood too!

I think Im going to go with a classy but evil beyond comprehension character, one who will wine and dine you, sweep you off your feet, then watch passionlessly as you writhe in agony from the poison in your drink kinda guy. Very charming, I assure you.

Anyone thinking of roleplaying a serious thief needs to remember... thieves get hated. Make sure you're ready to get HUNTED.
Murphy2005-02-06 13:01:40
Yeah no-one likes a theif. If you play your cards wrong you could find yourself hunted by every city, with no place to hide.

I was a Mhaldorian snake in achaea....I had my training in theivery from the very best. It was funny I'd be off on a little theiving stint clearing out a shop, then on GNT (the only channel that worked while you were phased) Silvaria would come on and request a teleport target, or she'd go "Just cleaning out this shop be with you in a moment" like it was nothing.

The RP with being hunted openly for a week, and especially hunted by the Shallamese snakes like Aladraion and co, was really good.

I so wish they would bring a serpent type guild here with a few twists. My most favourite ability was to phase and walk into a room of enemies and walk right back out again. Perhaps some type of warrior, with archery and the ability to do the whole phase thing....would be totally awesome. Bring on the veil of the sphinx and the lvl 3 bow again -drool-

I have to agree with Delver here. I -hate- the thought of having excessive stealing or even thief-based classes. There is nothing more discouraging than having something you have worked for a long time on, ruined because some opportunist wants to mess with you.

I also am glad that many of the 'thievery' type skills are in the hands of good or forestal organizations, which have the philosophy to prevent it. One argument for not giving equal abilities to all members of a single class is that generally 'evil' guilds have far more latitude to use them.

Those who say killing you is just as bad - it's not. I have realistically no means of stealing 20 or 30 levels from someone no matter how hard I try. A death equals a constant amount of experience loss, which isn't too much in terms of effort. However, a thief can take thousands or even hundred of thousands of gold worth of items or money, and completely clean you out. Not to mention that gold and items are often acquired via RL money, and hence rather valuable. Skills and artifacts can't be stolen, but they can be. I would personally like it so that we could store gold in rifts.

I'd hand over all of Necromancy for Phase.. even in its previous form, the Imperian form, that isnt instant. But thats not saying much. Phase = fun.
Sekreh2005-02-08 02:10:01
Well you could always invest in 100k worth of gold commodities and put *them* in the rift heh.

I think theivery should require actual skill and thought, thus theiving guilds sorta take a shortcut. A better idea would be a theiving clan involving members of multiple guilds coming together in a secret clan to discuss strategy and carry out daring plots.
Daganev2005-02-08 02:11:07
Ooooh thieving clan.. that is an excelant idea. I may do that when I become rich.
Alger2005-02-08 07:56:27
a lot of forestals call themselves self-serving... id say thats pretty much a thief perception as well... and yes there are forestals who steal, well try to anyway.
Unknown2005-02-10 22:59:13
Vestophobia, Force commands (like pooka), generostiy, slapknuckles - those are the only ways to steal, correct?
Daganev2005-02-10 23:04:25
There is also the art of the con, where people give you things willingly.
Yrael2005-02-11 13:39:24
Problem with conning people here is that they are normally too smart to fall for anything standard. How I wish for the stupid people from UO, who could let me generate 500 million gold in a day. *hum*
