Is that an OOC or IC conversation?
Nementh2005-02-05 06:52:34
Umm before we make physics a required course, lets actually get students learning biology, chemistry, math, and for Gods sake how to SPEAK proper English.
When US schools can teach what they are supposed to teach in the first place, then we can add to it...

Your spelling isn't the greatest Nementh, as I've seen from other threads (e.g. definatly).
Unknown2005-02-05 08:02:01
I was so good at Biology....too bad I didn't believe like half of it. Chemistry, passed with an A.
Nementh, did you have Mrs. Escalante or were you one of those AP nerds?
(No, Nementh and I aren't old buddies, I didn't find out he went to my school until Nikua told me like a few months ago.)

I hate biology. I mean, who gives a about what's inside of us. Physics should have a higher priority in schools -- it's a hell of a lot more useful, and actually interesting.
Unknown2005-02-05 11:02:45
The sciences are all good. Every one of them.
Shiri2005-02-05 12:03:54
Yeah, physics is required here, up till GCSE, but annoyingly it's a Carres (my school) rule, not a government one, so it isn't actually required. Also tech is still required, WTF? (You know, woodwork and crud.)

Same with us, about the tech, because it's a technology college. (I frickin hate technology). You get to pick out of Resistant Materials, Designs and Crap, Systems and Designs, and Something Else.
Shiri2005-02-05 12:31:39
Yeah, we have to do Industrial Technology (interestingly, I selected this one, since I was told it was the one I could cope with best (I suck at tech) and at the start of Y10 the teacher was like...okay, you were going to do Industech, but the teacher thought it was "too boring", so you're all doing res mats instead), Resistant Materials, or Graphics. And inside report, WTF, my brother's year doesn't have to do it (or they have to do a tech OR an art, not just a tech. Which is a little more choice) Okay, it's good that they're changing it at least.
Also, you're unlucky. The tech college in Sleaford is an ICT college that has tonnes of computers instead of a load of soldering irons and stuff. OURS, no, we get a SPORTS college, how useful to our education! >_<

I'm awful at biology. My only non-A, non-B in college was zoology lab - barely passed. Luckily it was only 1 credit hour.
Mathematics - best subject.
Physics - second best subject.
Chemistry - third best subject (and somehow I pulled an A in Organic out of my ***).
English - not terribly great (B+/A-), but I have rather impeccable spelling and grammar.

I'm not particularly good at anything (well, duh) but my best are ICT, Maths, Business & Economics, and Physics in that order. I so cannot do biology. I mean, I thought it was about how animals behave and interesting stuff like that, I just don't see the attraction in checking how the kidney filters water and stuff. I mean, it's useful for doctors, but I really can't do it, and I don't care.
Buho2005-02-05 13:46:04
For those complaining about having tech courses...I would have killed for that. Closest thing to tech my school had was keyboarding...which I flunked. Something about not being able to type the teachers way, even thou I could type faster with one hand then she could.....ohwell
Shiri2005-02-05 13:51:39
Eeh, but it's design tech, not computer tech! *mutter* I can't do anything that requires manual coordination, and the COURSEWORK...where you have to go through this project and spend more time on it than all your other subjects combined, and it's just making this CD rack deliberately crap so you can say what you did wrong later...what the heck's the point? Ngarrh.

Aye, I really like biology, and it's a pretty damn important field. My best classes are Biology, English, and History. Math kills me... French, well, French then pisses on my corpse.
Nementh2005-02-05 19:37:24
On my spelling I never claimed to be good at it, and if you look at my post I said SPEAK, nothing about write...
Alyvia, I was in AP.
Physics is not more important then biology, however phsyics is much harder to understand then basic biology. The point I was trying to make was if our schools can't even teach biology, which is much easier then physics, they should require physics, because it will just screw up the system more.
I have never taken a physics class, it has not harmed me at all... I have taken one chem, all I need to know. Not all of us study the 'hard' sciences, so forcing people to take them is foolhardy.
It would be like me saying you had to take a course on the Archeology. How much will you use that information in any field but history related fields?
