Again, not the best idea, since it most likely wouldn't fit (well, how many dragons do YOU see in Lusternia?) but I've got too many ideas again so I'm gonna write 'em all down. Again, in Lusternia it could fit as a Pyromancer third skillchoice if dragons existed (you know, in place of illusions, to make things more diverse!), so they'd have this or, something like that. More for fun though, and because dragons rock. ...also I have been playing too much Breath of Fire series. Well, I might come up with a decent idea somewhere along the line, so I'll plonk it in the ideas forum. Here goes.
----------Skillset: Draconis----------
Dragonscales - A thick hide of scales.
Thick, protective scales cover the dragoon's body, reducing cutting and bludgeoning damage.
Dragoneyes - Thin, slitted eyes shine with magic.
Dragons' eyes see heat as well as light, and it is possible to see in magical darknesses if imbued with them.
Dragonblood - Thick dragon's blood runs through the dragoon's veins.
Draconic fireblood is thicker than ordinary blood, both clotting quicker and increasing resistance to poisons, even to a normal level when thinned with relapsing poison.
Dragontail - Grow a spined draconic tail.
Causing a spiked tail to emerge from the base of the spine, or barbing the tails of dracnari, then swiftly lashing it at an opponent causes intense bleeding but little direct damage.
Dragonheart - The fiery heart of the dragon has room for no fear.
A dragon fears nothing, and this stolidness is conferred upon dragoons chanting the ritual of the heart.
Dragonbones - Even a dragon's corpse possesses magical qualities.
For a day after his death, the residue left on the ground by a dragoon's dragonbones will heal and mend the wounds of his allies.
Dragonteeth - The teeth of dragons act as mystical seeds.
Spinning in a circle and spraying showers of dragonteeth causes irregular spines to erupt from the ground all around, damaging anyone knocked down onto them.
Dragonwings - Leathery wings sprout from under the dragoon's shoulderblades.
Draconic wings burst from the dragoon's back, granting him the powers of flight - the sheer power in these wings also lends the dragoon extra staying power in the air, and it is much harder to drag him to the ground.
Dragonbreath - A wave of force blasts out from the dragoon's mouth.
*2 power*
A quick and forceful emission from the dragoon's head will knock an opponent off equilibrium and to the floor, damaging them lightly in addition, though its full powers are not best used in humanoid form.
Dragoncoils - Entwine and crush an opponent in a scaly grip.
*4 power*
Binding a prone opponent in invisible strands of force and clenching the dragoon's fist causes them to constrict around the foe, injuring them and breaking bones.
Dragonform - Metamorphose into a truly draconic form.
*5 power (Eternal Flame)*
Completing self-transformation into a legendary dragon, only attainable by dragoons fully imbued with the dragon's gifts and for short periods of time, the dragoon can shapeshift into a fullblooded dragon. At first his form is that of a hardy, dextrous and fire-absorbing salamander, although further study of the dragons a drake's form and a wyrm's spirit can be summoned to imbue the breath and coils of the dragoon with further power.
Koryuu - A calm and thoughtful drake of the rain.
Assuming the form of a misty koryuu, the dragonbreath of the dragoon is filled with harmful vapours with the potential to black out an opponent from consciousness.
Hiryuu - A whimsical and flighty drake of the wind.
Assuming the form of an airy hiryuu, the dragonbreath of the dragoon sings with an eerie wind, making it more difficult to stand and knocking the target off equilibrium for a longer period of time.
Ganryuu - A patient and stoic drake of the soil.
Assuming the form of an earthy ganryuu, the dragonbreath of the dragoon petrifies and hardens the flesh of those caught within it, afflicting them with slowness of movement.
Kasairyuu - A passionate and bright drake of the hearth.
Assuming the form of a fiery kasairyuu, the dragonbreath of the dragoon is wreathed in fiery streams of magic, burning and igniting foes - the already fire-enhanced breath of Dracnari dragoons is additionally raised to such heat that it can even incinerate herbs left in an enemy's inventory.
Wyvern - Summon the cousin of the dragon's race.
*10 power (Eternal Flame)*
Summoning a wyvern, a much easier task on the elemental plane of fire it calls home, will let the dragoon mount it and take to the skies.
Tiamat - A powerful and sadistic wyrm of the ocean.
Summoning the spirit of the oceanwyrm Tiamat imbues draconic coils with a watery substance that dilutes the blood, reducing the effectiveness of healing until cured.
Vitra - A cold-hearted and capricious wyrm of ice.
Summoning the spirit of the icewyrm Vitra freezes a coiled opponent's blood, causing him to freeze instantly in place.
Leviathan - A mindless and destructive wyrm of the mountains.
Summoning the spirit of the mountainwyrm Leviathan crushes and shatters the body of a coiled opponent, breaking and fracturing bones.
Kaikajin - A foul-tempered and fiery wyrm of the volcano.
Summoning the spirit of the firewyrm Kaikajin boils an opponent's blood, driving him insane with reckless rage and mental illness.
Tatsu - The lord of all the dragons grants a tiny portion of his power.
*7 power*
Morphing into the shape of a hybrid draconic beast, a dragoon that takes the form of Tatsu may breathe a furious storm of magic onto an opponent, imbued with the magics of the koryuu, hiryuu, ganryuu and kasairyuu.
Years - The chant of the year of the dragon calls down each of the dragon spirits at once.
*10 power (Eternal Flame)*
The ritual of years lets the dragoon summon the spirits of the four wyrms into his body, releasing their coils simultaneously after a brief period of concentration.
Idea being, having all the draconic attributes (scales, eyes etc.) lets you morph into a dragon for a brief period of time, take on physical attributes of a drake to imbue your breath with power, and summon the spirit of a wyrm to infuse the magical coils, one each at a time. (As you can see, it has the whole..brief power, then you're screwed) thing going on.

Not be rude or anything, but when did Dragoon, or in other words a Mounted Solider with a spear, later mutated by the English Army to be a reference to their 'elite' calvery, become dragon worshipers... only the names are smiliar, the similarity ends there...
Unknown2005-02-05 22:13:35
Shiri, I love that skillset.
Shiri2005-02-05 22:16:51
They didn't, Nementh. I'm cheating, and using Final Fantasy stuff. Plus, there's the whole "it's a cool name" thing. The leviathan wasn't exactly a mountain wyrm, either.
Nementh2005-02-05 22:20:17
So Final Fantasy is who I have to blame for all the Dragoon 'dragon loving' BS I see when I run public open DnD? I think I will be making a trip to Japan now...
Shiri2005-02-05 22:22:05
Um...I THINK it is, it might have come earlier, but that's where I pinched it from. I know perfectly well real dragoons weren't dragonriders, but ehh, it's sort of popular fantasy now. Sort of like...paladins.
And...yes. Nihilists are not demon worshippers.
So, cool name, it stays.

Paladins -were- Holy Fighters who rode around with swords during the Crusades period, slaying their enemies and a crapload of other people as well.
So...ban Shiri I guess?

Shiri2005-02-06 09:33:10
...hrm. 0_o Will have to look into that. No banning Shiri, not until I've done the next one anyway.
Nementh2005-02-06 16:15:47
Umm most knights fighting in the Crusades were Paladins. Paladins were Knights who had joined in and formed a 'Military Order' Templars being the most famous. They typically were not supported by a state, and we self sufficent orders.

Legend of the Dragoon. Damn I love that game. And they're referred to as dragoons in that game.
Typhus2005-02-07 13:34:37
He beat me to it. Yeah, Legend of the Dragoon, Panzar Dragon, Final Fantasy series, and Legend of Mana.
Shiri2005-02-07 16:27:47
Okay, so whatever, the name's acceptable, how about the actual skills?
Unknown2005-02-07 23:43:00
I'd be that class no matter what, but make dragonform permanent, and less powerful.
Shiri2005-02-08 00:24:22
Hrmmm. Oh, I dunno, I've probably just been playing too much Breath of Fire, but I liked the thought of this fairly innocent looking mage wandering around, someone tries to attack him, he turns into this giant monster dragon and incinerates them. I might be convinced though.
