Mebbe he's referring to shows like Queer as Folk and, as such, the liftstyle is "sex, sex, sex.. with a little more sex on the side"?

Straight 'lifestyles' exist like that too. (Sex in the City?)
The fact is, both gay and straight people have sex (gasp!) It happens. Some people are more..hm..open, about it? They're more 'sexually liberated'. Some people reserve themselves, some don't. It's not about gay/straight, but more about personal choice.
As for 'Gays being equal, and accepted in society' (I believe that's a loose quoete of Nementh's post..
We're not.
A standard Heterosexual marriage offers over 436 different clauses and actions for a married couple. This can range from tax breaks, to the right to make decisions for an incapacitated (coma?) spouse, the right to -visit- the spouse in the ICU units of a hospital, inheriting rights. (A homosexual couple can live together for over 30 years, mongamously. One dies, and the family contests the will. They can win that and take everything.)
Domestic Partnerships/Civil Unions (Vermont for those who don't know). Are not always as inclusive, do not always contain everything and beyond that, they make a 'seperate but equal' clause. It is trying to inherently say that it is the same as a marriage but, not a marriage.
Currently, the president of the US is trying to make a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. That's part of what Gay Pride is about. Beyond the Parades, there are generally 7 days of activities, with the last day ending in a Street Festival with tons of information booths, concerts, appearences and general jovial relaxing.
www.hrc.org for more information on Equal Rights for everyone.
and to answer, I currently live in a redneck hill-billy town of Hagerstown, Maryland.
Recently moved from Baltimore (and surprisingly, even in Baltimore Maryland, there is still the rock-throwing and insults about gay couples. )
Edit - Though this point seemed to slip by, I also strongly contest the point that 'it is a choice'. Being gay is not something you 'choose' (though you can choose to act upon it, choose to tell people, choose to hide it.)

5 minutes. The man-on-man action is happening at the same time, somehow.
And he, uh, laid out his clothes the night before...

I am currently not a jew, but apparently if I wanted to rejew I wouldnt have to go through as much as the normal folk.
Oh yeah gay guys are the most organized people ever you know they can have hot man on man action while getting dressed.
My straight friends think QAF is hot.

If you want to celebrate history because it got left out of the history book curriculum, go to a library. I absolutely hated history when I was in school. Now that I'm all grown up, I love it. But I love it because I'm discovering all the things that they did not teach in school. Especially US history, which (IMO) my school whitewashed much of the three most important parts of the nation's history: it's founding, the Civil War, and WWII. Indeed, until a few years after college I didn't even know that our current government was the second government and that we had a whole other government for years before Washington became president!
And indeed having a black history month doesn't help much since that also is a narrow view of history focusing on one group through the eyes of today's NAACP et al. You will probably learn more about black history from the library than from listening to the NAACP or Bush or anyone else on either side of the modern political spectrum with an agenda. The library doesn't have an agenda; thus it is the best place to celebrate history.

I just wanna say, for all those gay couples, or interracial couples, or any other relationship that is not "normal" that can make it through the awful intolerance they recieve from the majority of other people, you deserve all the credit and happiness in the world.

And I've never understood bias, etc., (even though my parents are rednecks vehemently 'opposed' to homosexuality).
I'm a mutt. English/Scottish/Irish/Italian/French/Austrian/German/Seminole/Creole/etc. Racism makes me laugh.
I'm agnostic. Religious quarrels make me laugh.
I'm straight, but was once bi-curious. I live with my girlfriend (19 years my senior), and we frequently hang out with the group of friends she's had for... 20 years or so from college (they were all theatre people in college). All but three of the guys are gay. Homosexuality bias makes me laugh.

The California Civil Partnership, something amazingly not mentioned at all at the gay pride events, cover everything marriages cover EXCEPT: They do not provide for 'Church' Marriages. (This means you have to goto city hall for the paperwork.)
They have a different tax breakdown... however if you do the math, the tax breakdowns add up to the same. They were orginized differently because a civil partnership applies to different sex partners over the age of 60 who want to be married, but may not want to lose the retirement or support of a deceased spouse. The tax break is the same, in the state of California at least.
Anything else not covered in the California Civil Partnership are Federal Law.

Thanks, Fain.
I am white. I have biracial nieces and I consider their father's side of the family to be my family. Personally, I don't like Black History Month because I think Black History Month should be every month. Just like White History Month and Orange History Month should be every month, too. I have a lot of respect for the contributions that Black people have made to our culture - just like I have for the contributions every other culture has made to American culture.
I'm also bisexual, though I'm in a committed monogamous relationship with a man who I will probably end up marrying. That doesn't make me any less bisexual, it just means I don't engage in sex with women right now. Thankfully, I've never been persecuted for my sexuality, but I do get sick of people who are bisexual one day and straight the next and gay the day after that, because it's cute or trendy or whatever. I also get sick of people - especially women - who look at me like I'm going to jump their bones.
I swear, if people just used common sense, we would not have these kinds of problems.
And don't even get me started on gay marriage. Marriage is a legal bond, and if the church wants to refuse to marry homosexuals, that is just fine. But the state has NO right to refuse that.
Edit: Language censored. (Elryn)

The definition of the word marriage is MAN and WOMAN. That is what the bloody word means.
So by definition of the word, the state is well within its rights to say no to it.

Shiri2005-02-10 00:33:08
No, not really, Nementh. Because once it's state related, it should be about rights (I mean...the whole closest-relation thing and all the rest of it), not some arbitrary religious thing. As she says, church can do what it wants, but the state should be fair about things. *shrug*
Ingrid2005-02-10 00:33:21
Then the state needs to come up with a different word for it.
The church can have marriage. But I resent the fact that a "civil partnership" is equivalent to "gay marriage." Everybody ought to be in a "civil partnership."

What I don't understand is why the definition of something has to be changed like that.
People now adays get a wierd sense of being insulted if you want say a concubine. They acted just like a wife, except they were technically not the wife, it was a concubine.
I have no problem with Civil partnership or whatever you want to call it, but I do have a large problem with the term Gay Marriage. Its an oxymorron.
Does that mean that one person claims the role of wife and the other the role of husband?
I find it similiar to calling people who have been shot during a drug police raid a "Veteran". After all, they were fighting the in the War on Drugs.
