I compose music as a hobby. I'm better at it than I am at graphic design, poetry, short stories, etc. Most of this music turns out as instrumental, since I am not the world's greatest singer (nor do I have the world's greatest recording studio).

If I were to create a song based on the images I get from Lusternia (random images can be a great source of inspiration for me), and if I wanted to submit it to the Bardic/Artisanal contest, how would I go about doing that/is that even possible?

I think thats a great idea. I've been working on a lusternia theme for a while now and maybe soon I'll post the work in progress that I have. I'll see if I can convince Estarra to do something like this.

It's got my support, I can see a lot of possibility - village folk songs, ballads of the recent battles, ideas of what that song Raziela's always singing actually sounds like..you get the idea.

...so... any word on the feasability of this? I wanna submit for the February one (though I might not be able to actually finish polishing it... stupid homework) but still have no way to do so...

I was thinking about this too (Gotta put this composition training to use somewhere smile.gif), I figured it'd get included under Bardic though, considering that writing songs is possibly even more "Bardic" than stories is...

Music is an art form. Its artistic.

However, all art is bardic, so duno.

What about crafting a dance? Would that be Art or bardic?

*raise thread*

So has the question been posed? Accepted? Rejected? Am I waiting in vain?
Daganev2005-04-07 05:53:08
dances and perfromances are done in the bardic contest, atleast thats been done so far, as you write out the performance and steps.

I think there should be a musical contest also. Its so different than all the others, and with recent technology and bandwith changes, its viable to do over the net without crashing servers.

Wayne Brady is going to have to choke a b*tch if I surf through bardic one day and hear someone singing.
Daganev2005-04-07 06:10:23
Instrumental music.. intrustmental means no words..
Singollo2005-04-07 06:13:51
Give them pie and they shall ask for cake!
Daganev2005-04-07 06:18:34
Why would they do that? Pie is soooo much better than cake.

Lets put it this way, unless they sound like the instruamental songs will probably win while the singing ones don't. And Thus you'll only hear good stuff.

Pfft.

I also make music as a hobby, and much like Blastron, I don't sing, so my songs are instrumental, too. It would be cool with a contest for musicians, too.

For some reason, I am hearing "March of the Empire" (or whatever the Star wars song is called) echo through my head right now
Acrune2005-04-07 16:01:09
I would have to pity the judges of the music though. Poorly done music is a lot more painful then poorly done stories or drawings.
Singollo2005-04-07 16:01:42
Number one reason why instrumental music won't work: It can never be Lusternia specific.
Unknown2005-04-07 17:41:37
Singollo, I think I understand what you mean when you say that instrumental music can never be Lusternia spesific, but I think your logic is flawed. If Fain completes his Lusternia theme, won't it be Lusternia spesific? Of course, you don't have any names or pictures to identify it as Lusternian. If Lusternia had sound and music (which it doesn't, because it's a MUD), we would probably be able to recognize the melodies of Lusternia as we recognize people and locations. Then, we would be able to remix those songs, and this would be Lusternia spesific.

Just my two coppers.

The only way to submit music for the contests is to have it in a flash (see Daganev's entry). Might want to put a note in the description that you are submitting the music.
