Singollo, I think I understand what you mean when you say that instrumental music can never be Lusternia spesific, but I think your logic is flawed. If Fain completes his Lusternia theme, won't it be Lusternia spesific? Of course, you don't have any names or pictures to identify it as Lusternian. If Lusternia had sound and music (which it doesn't, because it's a MUD), we would probably be able to recognize the melodies of Lusternia as we recognize people and locations. Then, we would be able to remix those songs, and this would be Lusternia spesific.

Just my two coppers.

No. There well be no mention of Lusternia anywhere in it and it could easily be applied to any sort of fantasy game/film/event.

You don't seem to understand what I'm trying to say, Singollo... I'll just leave it at that.

Estarra, what do you mean that the music has to be in a flash?
Unknown2005-04-07 22:20:53
A flash would be in a flash movie, like our favorite: The end of the world.

You can find tons of examples, and I'm sure there are plenty of people who would be glad to make the flash movie for you , provided the songs.

Just not me, cause I don't own it.
Shamarah2005-04-08 00:08:37
I have Flash MX, and if you need the sound file inserted into a flash movie to submit it, I'd be happy to make and compile the .swf for you so that the music just starts playing when the flash opens. (Or it could have a play button, or something.)

And Singollo... the thing that's being referred to is taking moods and themes from the environment of the game. I'm no musician or composer by any means, but I'd imagine that you could make a low, militant song and call it "Magnagora", or call a song "Celestia" and have it in high lilting notes, maybe with a choir singing high notes in the background to make it sound angelic. Stuff like that. No, there's no way to make it distinct so that people instantly know what it's from and what it's referring to when they hear it, but that's the thing with any instrumental music. And yet movies and stuff have theme songs to fit the mood of the movie and the mood of different scenes. That's what people mean.

That's what he means, too. The thing with those stories that get accepted into the Bardic can't fit anywhere else. Nowhere but Lusternia has Merian and Tae'dae and Magnagora. With music, there's nothing like that.
Daganev2005-04-08 00:31:10
Stick the Starwars themesong anywhere outside of Starwars without refrencing it... I dare you .

Or even the Startrek one.
Singollo2005-04-08 01:27:16
Oh yeah, lets throw out an extremely popular movie franchise as an example.
Shamarah2005-04-08 01:31:19
I wasn't referring to things like that, just songs that capture the mood of things.
Daganev2005-04-08 01:31:55
If you are a musician, and you know what your doing, the 'soundtracks' you make to something with that thing in mind will not fit another place, just like the pictures made do not really fit in another place.
Daganev2005-04-08 01:33:09
How are the Music entries going to compete against the Visual entries?
Singollo2005-04-08 01:35:21
That doesn't make any sense Daganev, I have an extensive list of soundtracks and many songs are copied over.

And I believe Estarra meant they would be attached to the visual entry.
Daganev2005-04-08 01:44:15
Estarra's post seemed to imply to me that you can make a flash box, and put your song on it, and say.. This is not about the green play button, its about the song.

Sorry, I ment Score not soundtrack. Those songs that are made unique for operas or movies and such, mostly always instrumental. Sure a lusternia song will work in any other environment that is multiplanar and has a demonnic vs angelic vs nature theme to it, but not many places will, and thus ideally when you listen to the song you will say to your self "That is soooo Lusternia"

Just like when you see my picture of the Ur'guard you say to yourself 'Oh thats a Tae'dae' instead of saying 'Oh thats a grizzlybear wearing armor'
Singollo2005-04-08 02:05:38
I also meant score.

What if I said this was made for Viravain's Whitehart murder?

I think it fits pretty well.

Is there an official (instrumental) music contest up? If so, where can I read the details?
Singollo2005-04-08 07:13:38
Um no, I suggest you read back over this and figure out that its been suggested and refuted, and denied by Estarra. You're going to have to compete with people who are trully making Lusternia specific things in the artisan contest. By the by, if a music score trumps these you're going to hear great disdain from me, since you essentially robbed someone in my opinion.
Unknown2005-04-08 08:21:33
Can you point out where Estarra denied this suggestion?
I would really like it if there was a music contest, but either way works for me. I just want to hear Estarra's answer to this.
Daganev2005-04-08 08:33:58
last post page 1, She didn't deny it, you just need to post it as a flash file.
Summer2005-04-08 08:36:00
If you stick it in a flash file, you could describe what is happening in text while the music plays, which would take care of the lusternian-specific problem.

Bad example below:

The fight gets more intense as joins in the fight vs .

died and the battle is over.
Unknown2005-04-08 08:56:02
Ah, that would be cool! To have an event or scenery where a song plays in the background.

... Please correct me if I misunderstood.
Summer2005-04-08 09:36:41
Sounds like what I was thinking of. Or since the category is music and not writing, could set it to logs instead of writing out the description yourself.
