I will probably make a Hallifax-oriented clan some time soon, and so that got me to thinking, what kind of guardians would they have? Something pertaining to faith they should be, yet angels and demons are taken.
Which then got me to thinking, perhaps they shouldn't have such guilds, and only mages and knights. These cities are after all supposed to be behind the others by however many hundred years, and when they come out they'll probably adapt instantly and maybe even dominate the competition as new guilds usually do.
I think having cities consist of two guilds instead of three would be very interesting really, since it would change the political dynamics and styles they have by a lot.
So, thoughts?

Hallifax already has clan, it has for a long time. They just aren't as public as the Guardians. Rexali is the clanhead, they're called the 'Seekers of the Matrix'.
Anyway, in the histories it mentions the guardians of Gaugiguch by name multiple times (The Illuminati), and both cities have higher planes (Vortex and Continuum) from which to base their guardian guilds.
Basically, this is known.
Gaudiguch:
Guardians- Illuminati
Mages- Pyromancers
Warriors- Wyvern Riders
Hallifax:
Mages- Aeromancers
And the rest, I think, are as of yet unknown.

Rain on my parade why don't you
Well, we can have two Hallifax clans then!

Or you could, you know, work with Rexali. Or me. I'm very open to anything about Hallifax.

You are a member of the clan called 'Guardians of the Eternal Flame.'
You are a member of the clan called 'Seekers of the Matrix.'
Seems there are clans for just about everything, no?
And the Guardians already have a room in Deepnight. Just a matter of time before the Seekers have one too, and then we can party it up, and forget about the cities not coming out for years and years.

The Guardian's room is U-G-L-Y.
Sorry, just had to say that.

I know, I know. I didn't make it. If you buy a private room, you get to make your own hideous description. Karrah made that one...
I'm going to make my own though, and he's going to like it.

On that note though, quite apart from my rather bad take on Hallifax guardian Cosmic specialisations (I think my Time/Space thing was a bit better), I always kinda thought that if they were going on the same route as Celestialism/Nihilism they'd have something like a crystalline golem. Although that's a li'l bit too much like Lucidians. But something like that.
Desdemona2005-02-12 18:24:46
Hallifax should probably all be science oriented and the guardians be physicist/chemists. With their Vortex plane (I think this is their Cosmic plane) being amorpheous "oozes" that may control Space/Time as someone suggested.
Edit: In other words, instead of Hallifax making something nearing a religion out of their cosmic plane, they strictly adhere to scientific research and stuff.
Edit: Let their ents be amorpheous shapeshifting oozes locked in robotic bodies
Oh, and for knights, instead of Knights Hallifax could have psychics wielding psyonic swords, animating swords, telepathy, and other stuff Or add the psychic abilities to either Mage or Guardian Hallifaxers, and give Hallifax Knights robotics as a trade skill and wielding robotic enchanced technological verisons of swords and armour... lightsabers!

hallifax should be all mechanical like mentioned above but not gay like robotics more like magical constructs by using mechanical magics. They could make "smart" weapons and have like crossbows and stuff that are semi intelligent or something to that effect. and make lotsa neat gadgets using science and magic
Desdemona2005-02-12 19:18:06
Illuminati vrs the Hallifax Matrix Institute I think is the ordeal. So the Hallifax Matrix Institute would have to be the Guardians of the Matrix.
Yeah, don't think the concept of robotics is gay. I just said robotics to sum it up. But you could say that they are androids manipulated by electricity and other magical incantations conjured by Hallifaxers. In any case, like you and I said, all technological showing in some instances somekind of robotic-humanoids or something.

Don't call it robots, call it golems!
Desdemona2005-02-12 21:32:44
Psh, golems sounds kinda nonmodern. Something I would probably give to the Gaudiguchians. If you people don't like the term robot then how about automaton? Sounds more mechanized and sophisticated than golem.
I think Gaudiguch should also be technological advanced but nothing compared as sophysticated as Halifax. Probably Gaudiguchians could be the masters of thermodynamics, good mathematicians, philosophers and "biologists". Gaudiguchans could have golems made from primitive materials powered by vapor or something like that
One question, does anyone know how the Vortex could be? By the description, I gather as if the whole plane where an organic sentient place with... energy butterflies swirling on the skies growing from the emmanation of energy from the Eternal Flame found in the Vortex.

Of course golems is non-modern. Just because they're scientists doesn't mean they're C21 quantum physicists. Crystal golems just sounds like the really advanced type of fantasy science. Kinda like...hm...well, like Al from Fullmetal Alchemist, I always saw him as a golem.
Unknown2005-02-12 22:10:33
Gaudiguch isn't nearly as advanced, technologically. They're more mysterious (The Illuminati, especially), mystic, and uncivilized. I highly doubt they'd be interested much in science. I imagine their guardian creatures would be very shadowy and mysterious.
As for Hallifax, I could see them having big crystal beasts infused with magical electricity. Not quite robotics or anything.

Desdemona2005-02-12 22:13:57
But that is the trick, you see. Lusternia is a fantasy, as such you could easily have steel made robots along with some other parts (rubber, crystals, whatever) fused with magic and electric energy obtained from the Aerial planes and elements from the Matrix as core substance., or whatever. The result: a mechanised robot... but if you insist a completely mechanised golem. Also, you could consider Hallifax to be top physics or at the very least mechanics. Institutes, a city in the sky, lucidians trying to discern the very patterns of the universe... sounds highly sophisticated to me
Has anyone played Skies of Arcadia (Legends- the one I played)? If you have, I think Hallifax is to all other the commune/cities, just as the Silver Civilization was to all the other civilizations/empires/cities. Complete technological superiority surpassing others by eons, mass intellectual capacity, not very prone to be emotionate, etc. Quite a fantastic concept, imo.
Edit: As for Gaudiguch... I believe that the mixture could be the following: A society once completely dominated by the spiritual faction, and suddenly other factions began doing more "scientific" exploration or developments, this group being the Illuminati. Still being dominated by the spiritual faction, the ruler would be of a more philosophical tendencies, but the Illimunati being intrigued by the Vortex and the power emmanating from it... suddenly tried to discover ways to manipulate it giving way to things similar to Project Paradox. Also, Gaudiguch should at the very least be quite an accomplished mathematician to built for buidling pyramids.

The Vortex is Gaudiguch's cosmic plane. Continuum is the cosmic plane of Hallifax.
I personally vote for crystalline creatures animated by cosmic magics. In the histories it mentions that gems are essential for the upkeep of the Matrix.

AND SPIDERS!
I want crystalline spiders.
EDIT: Isn't it sad that I was promoted to Mythical for a worthless post like this?

Ooh, and spiders and snakes. And mirror-y things. I like mirrors. And no it isn't. MOST of my posts are worthless. (Also, argh, essay en route, Desdemona here to tell us why golems aren't appropriate or something )
