Losing 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, winning 64... I made a net increase of 2 gold.

Not worth it.

Playing double up if you lose on Roulette is a good way to bankrupt yourself. The best method I've tried to pick a single number and bet the same amount on the number every time you spin the wheel. As long as you number comes up once in 34 spins you make a profit.

Might it be possible to create a poker game for Lusternia which players could create decks, maybe buy special (rigged) artifact decks, and play with _each other_?

Gambling threads are always good to pick out who can and cannot think rationally tongue.gif

With roulette, it doesn't matter what strategy you pick. You will on average lose 2% of what you gamble no matter what strategy you use. Double-or-nothing leads to minor gains most of the time and massive losses some of the time but the same ~2% loss over time. Pick your favorite number, roll some dice and pick that, it really doesn't matter. 2% will be gone.

Nah, doubling up leads to a gain in the long term.

The odds of your colour not coming up in thirteen spins are so remote its silly.

As long as you dont mind only making your initial stake back its ok. If I had the patience and the money I'd be a millionaire by now sad.gif

The only way you'd be a millionaire by gambling is if you had at least a million gold to start off gambling with.

I earned nothing but profit at Achaea's roullette wheel. Once I lost big, but the overall winnings was quite large. I even purchased a shop with the roullette earnings. But once they made NPCs drop gold from bashing then it was much more profitable for me to make money bashing Thera's blacksmith and guards and Azdun's Lachesis.

The odds are small, but it happens. And if it happens, you loose more than you'll be able to make up. That's how the odds work - the house is always ahead of you. Those sort of betting strategies don't work. But I am not saying that winning is impossible, I've won quite a bit both at blackjack and roulette, even though I could never hold myself back from blowing away all my winnings plus my bank in a single shopping tour. I knew one guy who turned 200 lessons into 3,800 in a couple of hours. Another guy transed all of his skills by regularly playing blackjack. It's all in how you bet, but double-on-loss scheme is guaranteed to bankrupt you.

Artifact rigged decks, and custom decks is a pretty BAD idea. People will find out who has rigged decks and simply not play with them. It would be far smarter to just make it like chess and it all to be server-based instead of player based.

Evarayn has Mine Sweeper coded in..
Would love to see just some puzzle games like Mine Sweeper, Solitaire, Cross Words (with Lusternian hints) and others, where you pay maybe 10gp to play and get 100gp if you win. If you loose, you loose the 10gp. Or maybe you could play for karma.. if you win the game, you gain 1%. If you loose, you loose 1%.
Of course, it would only work for these puzzle games, where it takes time to think about your next action, so you couldn't really 'farm karma' from them... Basically, it's just some fun to break from some of the tedium.

The Problem with doubling up each time you lose is that you stand at losing even more than your gain for example

bet 2 Lose (Total Lost 2)
bet 4 Lose (Total Lost 6)
bet 6 win (Total win 2)

So you just put 10 lessons/gold on the line to win 2 lessons/gold not really worth it. Just some food for thought

Gambling is rigged.  Its just a way to drain gold and credits off of the rich forcing them to buy more ooc credits.  Nobody wins over time, bigger wins produce people who bet larger and larger and eventually they lose everything.

If you are rich in gold or credits its great fun and harmless but if are seriously gambling for gold or credits you might as well just give your credits away to your guild, at least it will do somebody some good.  Ive seen too many new players throw away all their lessons on gambling and fade away to like blackjack and roulette much.

Forget poker......put in Whack A' Mole.....only instead of moles it would be Whack A' Celstian or Whack A' Mhaldorian...or... Whack A' Divine*duck*

They call me Riyo. I will prove all of those things wrong.

For reference.. I turned 4 lessons into 1900, 2k into a cartel, and 50k into 350k. It's all in a day's work.
Daganev2005-02-17 00:07:12
I wish I could be more than one number at a time on roulette. Then I would be making some good cash.

Whenver I "double" my bet, I add a few coins so that when I win atleast I make some profit. like bet 200, then bet 410, then 830 ect.

I've won 10K so far on roulette here, but guessing which quarter the ball would fall in next. In one sitting I lost 2K, but other than that each time, when I have felt in the proper mood to gamble, I have won.

I refuse to wager more than 1K on a bet.

I'm good at gambling, though. 50k bets.. or 100 lesson bets.. I'll help you gamble for a cut of it. AIM BlademasterRiyo, MSN drew_me_36@hotmail.com

Let's see...Achaea I netted more gold then I can count and enough to trans 3 skills with lessons.
Aetolia....lets just say I got bored one day and gambled away 6m.

But please realise that Roulette is not how most people seem to think. Each spin is free from the spins before it. Ie. if you havea 49% chance of getting black on this spin, you have a 49% chance of getting it on the next. So it could(and I've watched it happen, many times) hit red over 20 times in a row. Now roulette could be a sure money maker, if it wasn't for the cap of 50k betting, that limits how many times you can double.

Now if you want to win, play blackjack. Even without card counting(which is impossible here, as we use WAY too many decks), you can get it to about a 50% chance of winning. That is, if you know how to bet correctly, when to double, split, etc. Sometimes if you tip the dealers enough, they migh just give you some hints for the next few hands wink.gif
Typhus2005-02-17 14:10:34
Heh.. What is considered a good time to split, stand, and hit on Blackjack here since the next card could randomly be anything?
Buho2005-02-17 14:16:44
No matter how many decks are involved. The odds of things will always be the same. Learning those odds is how one can always come out on top. Blackjack is concered the best game for winning because if one knows the odds they can increase they're chances to almost 50%. With card counting you can accually get to over a 50% chance of winning.

Go down to your local library, there are a TON of books on how to play blackjack.
