New avatar, relating to my feelings on the current topic.

Karma must die.
Unknown2005-02-13 03:09:12
I don't see why we need a clan for it. Just let anyone take a jab at them, until they die a certain number of times, depending on how many people they've killed.

Im not even gunna read the posts.

THE GODS DONT WANT YOU TO FIGHT ON PRIME.
DONT FIGHT ON PRIME.

And you wont have any problems with karma.

I have to say that I am intrigued by the karma system. You all have made very good arguments both for and against karma, but while I am initially opposed to karma, we should wait a bit before we cry 'nerf'

Increased xp sounds damn nice

So when I summon you into a statue, and four nihilists chain their demon dominations to totally rob you of everything, then walk away...

You tell me how much you don't want fighitng on prime.

You fight, so I should be able to hit you back.

What about when I, as Champion, rescue a guildmember who was being attacked by someone. I manage to slay the attacker, am put on their bully list, and I'm suddenly open to be cursed. For doing my job.

Sure, maybe the threat of being cursed will reduce the likelihood of people going around and jumping people, but some people have pointed out that it's reasonably easy to collect karma (I spent half an hour and got... 13%. Going by Vix's performance, that's subpar).

But anyway, I personally don't want to have to have this worry of being cursed by someone who attacked a guildmember, who I save. This, of course, comes down to the whole matter of what is considered legitimately killing someone. I always found it strange that you are listed as having 'bullied' someone who you had to kill in self-defence (unless my understanding is wrong, anyway).

I say it needs to be rethought, or completely rehashed. At least make it like the avenger, in that you need to have 'vengeance' before you can curse. At best... well, many of the other ideas that people have suggested seem reasonable modifications to the concept.

Amen. Absolutely agree.

One note though: it would have to be coded such that the person who attacked the guildmate you rescued would be the only one that you could kill without getting cursed. Otherwise, it would be easily abused and thus, overpowered.

Summarily:
-Someone attacks a guildmate not in enemy territory
-Champion rescues said guildmate
-Champion can kill the attacker without being labeled as a bully

After reading about Karma, I think the only real issue with it is something that defends against newbies and alts going around with the sole purpose of messing with somebody.

Because although the alt needs to exist for 50 days to do any damage, someone who is patient and evil enough can abuse the system in that way.

Dyr hit it right on the head. If you don't want to deal with karmic curses and such don't fight on prime. This is geared towards preventing all the useless silly fighting that goes on on the prime plane. There has been one announce post maybe more from the Divine stating that PK on prime is not acceptable. They want you to do your fighting on the various planes. What's so stinkin' hard about understanding that?

Which brings me to a question. Since the Divine want us to PK on other planes than prime, why open all uninfluenced villages up to it? Sounds as if they're giving into the PK mongers.

The problem with fighting off of Prime, as has been stated numerous times before, is that the only thing off Prime that is worth anything to anybody is their spiritual plane (Celestia/Nil, Ethereal (I guess)). All the economic benefit is down on Prime in the form of villages. The cities are situated wholly on Prime. Most people will spend most of their time on Prime because nearly -everything- is on Prime. The only other plane I spend a large amount of time on is the Astral plane. (When I'm not praying after lagging dry.gif )

As long as people raid villages to take miners/farners/commodities or incite revolt, and as long as the villages are on Prime, there's going to be fighting on Prime.

Granted, I would personally love to have more reason to be on either the Elemental or Cosmic planes more often, but... at the moment there isn't.
Daganev2005-02-13 03:48:59
I am most particularly fond of the Karma Blessings.
Laysus2005-02-13 03:51:05
If you don't want all the fighting on prime, then don't make pretty much everything other than hunting grounds on prime. Make it with villages on planes, and so prime is one of the less used planes. Where you have people, in a situation like this, you will have fighting.
Kree2005-02-13 03:54:51
I could not care any less if you don't like the fact there is "nothing" to fight over off the prime. OOO I know make up a reason, that's what role play is about, makin' stuff up, right?

I am not in Lusternia for the fighting and killing. I am here for the roleplay. I enjoy the quests, the complex history, the detailed, interlocking layers, and the potential depth of living in this realm.

You now get to share the quests you love so much with all the pkers and bashers. Hope you don't love them too much.
Unknown2005-02-13 03:56:57
I agree. I'm 100% for fighting off-plane, save for the fact that there is nothing there to fight for. The only exception is Fae, Demons, and Angels, but those aren't nearly as big a deal as villages.

So, how would you prefer that cities compete over villages when it comes time to influence?
