Instead of just bitching on and on, I'm going to actually contribute something so this might be tolerable for more people.
IDEA!!!!!!11!!!1oneone!!!! INSTEAD of the current curses, we invoke a slightly different system that is less harsh overall, but should still help against those darned random PKers who ruin it for everyone, and helps questers get their quests back.
Upon getting STATUS, you may invoke a Minor Curse (of whichever type you choose, for 40% karma. Status is removed upon invoking a minor curse. To remove a minor curse costs 55% karma.)
o The Minor Karmic Curse of Knowledge
- Lowers the skill level of a random skillset by 100 lessons.
o The Minor Karmic Curse of Harmony
- Channels 10% of the experience gained from the person cursed to
the person who placed the curse.
- Note that the person who placed the curse will only receive the
experience if online at the same time as the person cursed, although
the experience will be reduced for the person cursed no matter what.
o The Minor Karmic Curse of Chaos
- Insanity will cause spontaneous afflictions on the cursed that
leaves him without equilibrium. (but at a MUCH lower rate than already coded in)
o The Minor Karmic Curse of War
- Decreases the amount of damage you do against players and denizens by 10%.
o The Minor Karmic Curse of Justice
- All damage against the cursed is increased by 10%.
o The Minor Karmic Curse of Beauty
- Mana and ego will be drained in sporadic intervals.
o The Minor Karmic Curse of Nature
- Randomly hits the cursed while in any outdoor, natural environments (not urban, road, etc.) with a nature-based affliction at random intervals.
o The Minor Karmic Curse of Life
- Decreases the amount of life of the cursed by 10%.
o The Minor Karmic Curse of Death
- Diseases will spontaneously manifest on the cursed at irregular intervals.
Upon getting VENGEANCE, you may go to Avechna (Upon which vengeance is lost, as well as 50% karma) OR, do the current Curses of Karma (which will become MAJOR Curses of Karma) (upon which vengeance is lost, and 60% karma, Takes 85% karma to remove a Major curse.)
For BLESSINGS, make them cost as much as invoking a Major curse - and make those only be worth 25 hours total, not 25 hours online time. Also, reduce the abilities of the blessings by about 50%.
It's not too hard to avoid getting vengeanced - so this will really strike those random bastard PKer's, if they are jumping people in the street's and roads, and not villagers against enemy players. I hope this makes the topic a little less whiney, and striving more to getting it so we can all agree on something that can help anyone.

I like everything except this part. If they're going to cost as much as Major cursing someone, then they should last longer. I mean, I don't know about you, but I certainly can't be online for 25 hours to reap the benifits...maybe instead of 25 hours rl time OR 25 hours online time, it should be for a period of 'months'? Like...they last 7 IG months (keeping with the 7 theme of you have 7 days to curse someone) That way, you have a RL week to enjoy your blessing.
I know there's prolly some people who spend more than 25 hours in the game in an RL week But most people probably don't spend nearly that much. I know I can usually only be on for 2-3 hours a day or less.
Bricriu2005-02-13 19:26:21
Hmm...if the actual blessing itself was lowered, having it last the normal time would be pretty fair, as long as it expired, time left or not, within the 7 ingame months.
Shiri2005-02-13 19:26:44
Thing is, blessings are too good for some people, but too bad for others. If you have the time to go quest, they totally rock. But if you don't, they're infuriatingly overpowering. I think they should be toned down a LOT, not just a bit. And the curses too. I don't imagine there'd be quite such a problem with this if those curses weren't horrible nasty nasties. So I quite like Bricriu's idea. I really don't think it's actually going to happen though. >_<

Sounds good to me.

Shhhh, Ideas is here for a reason, to post ideas!
Who knows, maybe a Divine will read the idea and like it, and everyone can rejoice to a degree that they still can use curses against the bastards of the realm, but those who are RPing aren't getting fish-slapped, can still remove the minor curses, or wait it out if needed. You never know...it could be put in.
Obviously, those who are jumping randomly are going to get hit with each curse eventually, severely impairing them, anyhow. Jump 9 innocents? Well, yer screwed, still. If you aren't doing that, though, you are still (semi) fine.
In any case, it's more refreshing than 17 pages of "I hate Karma! I LIKE karma! You like Karma? Die die die! It sucks!'. Enso on.

...yeees. Okay, ignore my pessimism.
Listen to the rest of what I said though, it still counts.

Why not??? I don't understand this. Things are always always being tweaked. Skills start out one way, they get tweaked as time goes and it is seen they need adjusting. Why is this any different? People seem to think what we have now is set in stone! This is how it's going to be! Buahahaha!
If that were the case all the skills in the game would still be exactly the same as they were when the game first started. And obviously they're not.
Shiri2005-02-13 19:34:06
Well, because they just implemented this, and it seems more people are happy with it as is than not, and so forth.
All the same though, no reason not to post it or nothing, so just ignore my pessimism.

I think karma was perfect the way it was 3 days ago.
Daevos2005-02-13 19:41:08
exactly......when it didnt exist.
Bricriu2005-02-13 19:42:40
However, we all know Karma won't shrivel up and die, so we can try and compromise, and come up with ideas everyone might be happier with, or at least tolerate.
Nementh2005-02-13 19:44:03
Amaru is right, but if we are stuck with it, might as well get it to be less damning.
To me blessings are God Favours that you can get whenever you want, which is wrong. But I would rather see blessings over the curses, because the curses make a divine disfavour look like a high favour...

I think that people shoudl get together to caste a curse. You should have at least 2 people to do a curse both must have the victimn as a suspect or worse and the more people who contribute the more powerful it is. Plus to get rid of it you then need one less people then the amount that did the curse. That way its harder for curses to work but also harder to get rid of them.
This should replace how they get worse i think..
Anyway just an idea

Bricriu - I've been on the pro-karma side.
I love this suggestion.
However - minor curse gets rid of blessing. Major curse gets rid of blessing and adds minor curse.

I'm with Rex here. I happen to like Karma, since I'm not a random PKer, but it does need some tweaks. Bricriu, you've come up with great ideas, but yea, blessings look good at the moment. Kind of like an artifact for those without credits to spare.
Sekreh2005-02-14 05:04:20
I like it...
I think this is pretty hard to argue against. It adds to the system with Karma in ways that are fair to everyone, questors, pkers, and novices. Its a good expansion of the current system with more RP justification.
And I'm nabbing some of them favors before they considering implimenting this, as they stand they're rediculous. Check out the knowledge favor, makes an humble Dracnari have as much int as an Elfen!
My stats really shouldn't be that much better for an hour of questing.
I agree changes need to be made, and I think these are them. Check this out divine!

I'm suprised how many people agreed, .
Blessings are a bit hardcore - yes, they are nice (FINALLY being able to keep 17 int, day or night, ), but they a bit TOO nice for the cost of them.

Yeees. The awesome blessings are what annoy me most out of the whole deal.
Bricriu2005-02-14 22:04:08
So, if you had to choose -
Would you prefer blessings are downgraded 50%, but last the same amount of time....
Or, that they stay the same, but the amount of time you keep them is halved?
