This post is to propose a future event of world-effecting proportions, if you don't wish to delay reading the small intro, feel free to skip it.

The prophecy goes that every a millennia, the cycling and aligning of the the celestial spheres will bring upon creation a greater dilemma... to be destroyed or to be forever changed. The prophecy has been passed by generation upon generation, always being slightly modified but always with the conception that Creation is Doomed to experience great changed forced by an alien force. What this force is, whether it will be Cosmic Rays or the return of the Soulless or even a breach between the space and time continuum evolving every plance, none can tell. What is certain, is that once the day Destiny selects, the lands will be transformed or completely destroyed. No chroniclling of the prophecy clearly testifies what the manifestation of this Enigmatic force will be... but one of the most recently discovered scrolls found on the area of the swamps sheds some light as to what sall be the events to befall upon the Living and the Dead that Live...

The ancient scrolls written by those of the nomadic Taurian tribes speak of the comming of Mulh-Anon, to which they reffer to as "the Dissenter of the Ranks, Leveler of the Ground, and Bringer of Catastrophe". Thought to be a lost speck of cosmic energy originated from their Grand Ancestor, Tauro. A lost speck said to resemble Tauro's all-powerful fury and eternal rage, a speck lost during the fragmentation of their Lord, being too intense to be imbued within any mortal casing... believed to be fated to wander around the cosmos magnifying in power... doomed to find it's course upon Primeland, and collide unleashing all it's firey wrath.

Described as a blazing ball of fire surging through a colossal body, incarnated from the Cosmos itself, heralding the plenitude of the Taurian race preparing them for the Trial of Prime... the day where the world knows Havoc. Of such great importance was this event, that many Taurian seers spent their lives studying the stars trying to decypher when will be the day of reckoning. Many of the notes from the diverse seers claim that the day that Mulh-Anon shall storm fire on the lands... will be announced by the alignment of all the Celestial bodies when the planar barrier between planes wanes creating a portal throughoutt the planes, from Astral to the beyond...

Even when there are multiple similar prophecies, from other races, none have been preserved so greatly nor richly described as this ancient Taurian scroll. No one knows for sure, the veracity of these prophecies, but what can't be denied is the growing intacipation Taurians suffer when waiting for this day to come, always evident on their volatil behavior which seems to intensify with every passing moon...

Basically the idea is the following:

Maybe one day, on the future of Lusternia, the spheres from Astral along with all the celestial bodies throughout Lusternia's cosmos could align causing a reverberation within Astral surging accross the planes onto Prime, followed by the condensing into a speck of energy. This speck of energy remaining suspended in space, could then feel a magnetic pull from Prime, caused by the alignation of the spheres (which subsequently also caused a miniscule breach between planes), could then be subject of this force of attraction and begin planar travel changing shape and adding to it's constitution material from every passing plane.

From Astral, the speck could condense to emulate a "ball" of mercury-like energy, flow onto cosmic, deriving from every Cosmic plane somekind of substance proper to them producing an even bigger energy ball. Then, as the ball passess onto elemental, fire/water/fire/air constitute it's shape solidifying it and giving it a greater mass turning it onto a meteor of earth and ice encompassed with air-intensified fire, with the core energy of Astral and Cosmic... Finally finding a entry onto Prime's space Orbit, concluding with the collapsion onto the very bosom of the Prime plane.

The collapse of the meteor causing a mass power explosion causing upon every being of the lands total confusion and complete forgetfulness of the Common tongue (Babel). Forcing every race to only be able to communicate with those of their same race, causing an abyssal gap between interracial communication. Also, the clash of the meteor could cause unusual events on the environment like semi-eternal winters in the forest, rivers flowing on the opposite direction, plants mutating, stone building suddenly begining to "crumble", the days being shorter with the sun and the moon constantly rising and falling...

In the end, on the zone of impact, and due to the emmanation of power still evident on the meteorite, all gathered Taurians suddenly absorbing some of that power giving the race completion of their strength and making them even more volatile than before (+4 strength, -4 Charisma). Also the most docile and receptive race, the furrikin, could encounter themselves responding to this emmanation experiencing internal change (either becoming more feral thus stronger, or smarter, or more experienced).

The planes still sensitive to the collition of the Meteorite, formed from the very essence of the universe, could then further wane causing vortexes from which finally Gaudiguch and Hallifax could return, first appearing as a mirage on the horizon giving to a gradual solidifying process, becoming more integrated within the time-space continumm. Also, in the Ethereal, forcing the reappereance of the Ethereal Ackleberry spirit tree, giving access to parts of Ackleberry again.

On the following years, when the meteorite still emmanates energy but not much as previously, the cities/communes could undergo a "reconstruction" process trying to develop national tongues to aid residents to communicate. In the end, interpretors and teachers could begin teaching other people tongues of the other races, diminishing the communication abyss.

To conclude all these events, the "casing" of the meteor could crash open revealing the pure ball of energy tunning with Avechna and disappearing within it. This final event could make Avechna a more sentient being guarding the lands.

That's about it regarding the Monolithc Meteor of Confusion.

You sure like doing these cataclysmic things, don't you?

Looks pretty cool, except if you want to do the language loss, it DEFINATELY needs to be temporary and not last very long. Nobody wants to be forced to talk in other languages for RL weeks.
Shiri2005-02-14 02:16:21
No no no, stop with this language thing. I play the game to RP and communicate with people.

And you needn't think making Furrikins stop sucking will help. NO LANGUAGE LOSS THING. tongue.gif

You say, in Elfen, "HOW... MANY... HEALTH... POTIONS... DO... YOU... WANT?"
You have emoted: Blastron points at a ruby vial with an inquisitive look on his face.

Mr. Furrikin says something unintelligible.
Mr. Furrikin points at the ruby vial in Blastron's hand and nods vigorously.

You say, in Elfen, "No... HOW... MANY?"
You have emoted: Blastron shakes his head slowly, and holds up his hands, counting off his fingers with a frustrated look on his face.

Mr. Furrikin looks very, very puzzled.

heartstop

Good idea! I like the language barrier part as well, 'twould make for some excellent RP opportunities.
Ceres2005-02-14 02:37:22
You have emoted: Ceres says, "How many health potions do you want?"
Akraasiel2005-02-14 05:05:10
A bolt of lightning sizzles from the sky frying Ceres for her craptastic roleplay.

Bleh, Achaea already did the meteor thing.

But you've been reading my thoughts on the killing lots of people topic.

Good call. I was afraid someone would want to try use emotes to bypass the communication problems. biggrin.gif

In my original idea, I was also going to propose for the common language be affected even in the written form. Meaning that unless someone of your same race wrote something.... all you would see would be doodles. Something like:

Readnews public 234444
Author: Elfen
Subject: the scribblings are illegible for you
Directed to: what seem like curses are sprawaled across the page

Unintelligible scribblings have been inked all through the page.

But then I thought that would be too tough, so maybe written common language could've been saved allowing people to communicate through messages, letters, posts... and as a way to get benefit from this, people could use more and more the postal service requesting cards on where to write messages wink.gif

Also, the idea was that confusion would be a mainstay, that as an easing process NPC teachers or whatever could teach players languages of other races, but never more than three languages and never ever the common tongue. Then, as Hallifax and Gaudiguch become completely discovered (Ackleberry, too), the residents of those places being completely out of reality when the "Meteor" collided... would've been immune from the effects of the power unleash from the Meteor. So lucidians from that point forward could take the duty upon themselves of trying to teach the common tongue to the others and probably in an ulterior future... bringing the common tongue back. Thus concluding the 250 years of miscommunication! evil.gif

Pertaining the meteor, the people from prime would be the ones perceiving it as a meteor, but in reality what the phenomena is... a happening conjured, and created by a lost speck of Tauros' energy (actually caused by the process of planet alignment and condencing of energy) wink.gif , by the Greater Forces to endow further powers to the Avechna, with the side-effect of having to unleash a mass catastrophe on the mortals, due to the mass concentration of power within the "meteor"... Babel, enviromental changes, Taurians and Furrikins becoming more powerful, and the planes temporallily loosing their barriers allowing Hallifax and Gaudiguch (Ackleberry, too) to be closer to return... Also, mass people death would also be just a side-effect wink.gif

Edit: Oh an Shiri, my initial idea required people actually learning how to roast Furrikins due to the periods of famine created by this small event. smile.gif It was until later I thought, furrikins, docile and receptive: equals must change as response to their changing environment. Let both Taurians and Furrikins be more powerful.
Shiri2005-02-14 18:44:37
Confusion just isn't fun, though! >_< I don't care if I get stronger, if I lose access to every other member of the friggin' playerbase I'd give up really fast. Everyone would be forced to reincarnate to Viscanti/Elfen/Merian (wait, Viscanti don't even have a language! >_<) or be totally screwed over. THAT = NOT GOOD!
Desdemona2005-02-14 18:51:01
*gasp*

No, you wouldn't be losing access to communicating with the others: You would still be able to communicate with your furrkinkin biggrin.gif, with the others using letters post messages... and eventually, short after the collision, speak in Serenwilderns the new tongue of the Wilde, communicate with your Seren peers... then eventually another process would allow you to learn other tongues. In the end, Hallifax/Gaudiguch/Ackleberry return (after 250 years of absence after the collision), they would return with the common tongue with them teaching it to the heathens survivors of the day of reckoning... in a period of another 5 years, the common tongue could be learned by everyone. smile.gif

As for Viscanti, and all races that don't have their language, they could invent or remember them. Just like Atavians did in Achaea a while ago biggrin.gif
Shiri2005-02-14 18:54:28
Okay, so I can communicate with my...8 other Furrikinkin. *RWHO* None, hm. And it's worse for other races. And THEN after a brief period of having to leave Lusternia from sheer frustration, I'd come back and only be cut off from communication from the OTHER 2/3rds of the world.
5 years = 66 days odd of a huge proportion of Lusternia leaving. I can see this, but only in one of Guido's funnies posts. wacko.gif
Desdemona2005-02-14 18:59:40
You are being too drastic laugh.gif

In any case, seeing how day and night would be complete shortened meaning that the days would pass faster... and all beings in Lusternia recording everythig through lunar chalendars, or whatever.... would have to keep track of the days like faster, but the things wouldn't be necessary aging faster. During this period of chaos, a year could equal to 30 mins RL, 250 years could be 125 days. *shrug* Or something crazy like that.

*hopes everyone would speak on ther racial tongue just to pretend Babel already has happened*

Edit: Just another thing, you don't really talk to 2/3s of todays population do you? If you talk only to Serens, the Seren tongue would help you. Then you could learn the Magnagoran tongue and communicate with them, then the Celestian tounge, and so on. Confusion is being overexagerated by you, Shiri, methinks it is.
Shiri2005-02-14 19:03:30
Okay, maybe I am being too drastic. If anything even remotely like this happened at all, maybe like...half hour stints for a year? That would work. Time would remain exactly as normal, but people would lose coherent functions for half an hour every month or something. Or a minute every day. That way it would be interesting, not totally infuriating. I am probably taking this too seriously, I just don't really feel like losing the entire point I play the game. tongue.gif
Unknown2005-02-16 02:41:24
I like the idea of taurians being as strong as tae'dae, though. Stronger, if they can still enrage. As for losing the common tongue, it would be completely unworkable because no one can speak more than one language. And some races don't even have their own language. If you could learn other languages it would be interesting, but still pretty annoying for... well... everyone.
Shamarah2005-02-16 12:10:19
weave illusion An illusory picture appears before you, showing Shamarah saying in your native tongue, "How many health potions do you want?"
Desdemona2005-02-16 19:23:25
Oooh, another collateral effect of the collition could be that after some years after things have turned to "normal" (as normal things can get without a common tongue! pureevil.gif)... in the collition site, a small fissure could be opened between alternate realities opening an entrance to a Lusternia where the Taint was the dominant power and the Light the parasite that begun twisting and changing everything.
eirene2005-02-16 22:25:49
Okay. There may be a nugget of workableness to this. I think the learning of languages could be a cool thing to implement. After all, if all races can know the common tongue, they can all obviously form at least one set of sounds. What would prevent them from learning each others languages?
Shiri2005-02-16 22:33:16
Well, that would sort of spoil the effect of racial languages, though.
Sekreh2005-02-16 23:37:10
Racial languages have an effect?

News to me
Typhus2005-02-17 03:10:50
I think what the paragraphs of post means is that the languages are scrambled, ie tower of bablish... So, you have to go back to your native language. However, what it does allow is some good chances to try and roleplay out the communication barriar. Ever been to a foreign country? If you don't know the language, you end up doing alot of hand motions and impervising _everything_. It shouldn't trouble you too much if you are a good communicator... And I have a feeling you should be up to snuff.

Make it crash into the moon and via a certain rotation faces Lusternia and causes effects once a month?
