Hm, I think it would be much better if the effects of the cataclysm where directly felt that is why I selected as prime target Primeland, especially considering when the moon, the sun any other planet would be aligning in direct congruency with any other celestial sphere from the Prime up to Astral. So basically the "web" would be something like this:

X-***-ooo-OOO-000-@@@ Total and complete alignation. X representing Prime (target) * representing the spheres of prime, up to @ representing the spheres of Astral and place of origin of this condensed energy.

Also, because all this miscommunication process would be simply a stage where languages would have a period of slow transition, giving to the creation of national tongues, periods of being able to learn other racial/national tongues, and perhaps inevitably in the end with the reintroduction of Hallifax/Gaudiguch (cities unaffected by the meteor) they could bring with them the common tongue and from that point a slower process of the reinduction of the common tongue could start.

But basically, everyone would still be able to communicate, people would just have to be more creative as to see how they pass the language obstacles, until they are able to learn other languages. Blastron's idea was pretty great of a scenario that could happen between two folks trying to overcome the language barrier.
