I have various forms of travel (Catacombs, planar travel, via, etc, etc), and I still walk all over the world (It's how I hit planeswalker, after all.) - it's fun, really, except when I get hit with a spell of paranoia, and then I act all twitchy and have about 50 hermits set up all over the world.
Leave teleport alone - no power, etc, and put it a bit lower down on planar. Also, if you are trying to teleport into an enemy area, make it take twice as much time, but make it so you can only summon someone if they are from your own city/commune, so no other orgs can be planar summoning you out. That alone could cut senseless, non RP'ed PK in half.

Did you just say make teleport -lower- in planar??
And think of it this way Shiri. I'm standing in London, likely boung and gagged, because it's a dirty place and I wouldn't be there of my own free will, but... standing in London. I want to get to Paris. Now, if it weren't for a map, I'd have no idea where the heck I was going, so I'd better learn how to read a map, aye? Then again, I could take a plane, but I'd miss the European countryside, which from what I hear, would be a shame.

If it weren't for maps, I wouldn't know my way around, and I've been a Lusternian longer than 99% of the people in it

Have you failed to realize those people that made those maps before had to walk around prior to making them? I rarely use maps, only to see the general area so I at least know where I'm heading, and pray I don't get hopelessly lost along the way, Dumihru can attest to that .
Just because you feel teleport is hindering your ability to enjoy travelling around the world, doesn't mean you should get it changed so that everyone will have to do the same. No one is stopping you from not using teleport at all and just walk around everywhere. Heck, walk to your shop, your customers, your friends, etc. again, no one is stopping you. Other people rely on fast and more convenient methods of travel to save people, to get to shrines being defiled, to buy foods so we starve in the middle of no where, or get an antidote or mending refills in case they ran out in the worst situations. Don't ruin it for the rest of us.

No one is forcing you to use teleport. If you like to walk, walk. I don't like to walk. One of the biggest draws of Lusternia for me IS the planar teleport and summon system. I hated having to take forever to get to where I was going. And Lust's highways are way larger than any other IRE games. In any other IRE game, you can walk say... 20 locations and you'd be on the other side of the world. Here, you have to walk 20 locations to get over the next mountain.
Edit: Whoops... two posts. Can someone delete this one?

So leave teleport as it is. As for summon, I don't have a problem with having to have them on your ally list to summon.

I only dislike summon - make it so only your city/commune mates can use it on you! *rally*

I'll take the plane, you can get your captors to drive you under the channel tunnel then.

I don't think teleport needs changed AT ALL. As alot of other's have said, its all good and fine if you LIKE to walk, you can walk to your hearts content. You can use a 3 power skill and then hit teleport if you want to just burn power, you can count to 10, then teleport if you want it to take longer. Alot of us DON"T. We DO like the fact that teleport is a convient, fast way to reach someone else. Its good on so many levels. As it is now, you can EASILY escape someone teleporting to you for violence. The exceptions are when you are AFK. read HELP AFK. Technically, its not even allowed, all of us are guilty of it at one time or another, but by all rights and legalties, their is no excuse not to escape a teleport or a summon. You can set thinks to make them VERY Clear. I have one ***YOU ARE BEING TELEPORTED TO STAGAR!!!*** thats very long, and very spammy. even IN spam I will not miss a teleport.

I wouldn't be that bothered if teleport got removed either, the only times I use it is if I need to help someone from the city, besides that I just walk.
Shiri2005-02-16 17:07:49
Well, you KEEP walking, and leave teleport alone for the rest of us.
Unknown2005-02-16 17:27:00
I think removing teleport is a bad idea - it's a way you can get away from random PKers....
Teleport and summon are used for different purposes, so putting them both in the same post is a bit confusing (I realise they can both be used to attack someone (teleport to them, or summon them, but teleport can be used as escape/travel).
Also, summon can be useful when you have a hopelessly lost newbie who hasn't got teleport and has no clue where they are...

Make it so summon only can be done by allies and 90% of the senseless Pk would be out.
Nobody teleports to start an attack when you can summon and choose the ground you want to fight.
Well, some Magnagorans that end up drowning in the inner sea teleport to merians sometimes, ok. But it's their fault!

I think Teleport is fine as is. No need for changes, it is only a more convinient way to travel... when you need a quick way to get somewhere. Other than that, there are many of us that just like to walk/sprint/burrow/fly/leap around the continents to travel. Summon, on the other hand, is a good skill... just like forest summon (I think), but maybe it shouldn't be as universal as Teleport, probably summon due to the opportunity of being misused that it gives... summon someone just to kill? Maybe summon should be reduced to working only on local areas like a brazier tatttoo of some sorts. But, I must say... summon can be handy when dealing with lost novice, etc... that don't have teleport.
Typhus2005-02-16 18:30:12
People are forgetting summon for order members..
Anyways, leave teleport like it is. I always hated in Aetolia how only _1_ guild could teleport without being an arty whore, who by alrights should have teleport(best skill in the game in my opinion) if they are willing to spend that much credit power on it. However, Lusternia is a different ball game. Teleport is easy, convient, and just plain faster and more enjoyable to hoofing it down the road everytime. I was a knight, so I had to walk _everywhere_ and it bored me out of my mind!
Live and be strong Teleport!

The only time I ever use Teleport really is Teleport Nexus when I'm way across the world in a place that I'm not stupid enough to log-out at and need to log out very soon so I don't have time to walk back, OR occasionally when someone needs something from me quickly, I'll teleport to them cause they're in a rush for some reason or another.
Mostly I walk (or sprint...sprint is nifty) or fly to get places. I like having the ability to use Teleport if I need it though so I'm not sure I like the idea of taking it away.

Heh, yeah... In Achaea, druids/sylvan s had in their groves the best system for easy continental travel... mages came second... but ontop of their Grove skills, druids had track and all the nifty meta skills. Tarot users had Empress/World (is this the name?) and so on... Knights, on the other hand, always had to get a good pair of boots, if they ever wanted to travel.
Richter2005-02-16 18:44:45
Everyone is making it look like I hate using teleport, and think it's broken that we even have it.
Uh. No.
Lusternia is more magically oriented than some other games. Heck, in Aetolia, the only people without a wand of portals that could teleport all over were magi.
I'm just saying that it's faaaar too easy to teleport EVERYWHERE, and if you've ever lived in a city or commune (wait, that's all of us), you've heard the insane teleport questions rambles.
Teleport nexus, go to astral, bash, teleport to Bob, buy things, teleport nexus, teleport to your buddy in a village, teleport to the aetherplex to get into Deepnight, teleport around that, go out, teleport nexus.
Meanwhile, you've just missed hundreds of hours of work.
Making it higher in planar gets rid of most of the problems. And don't whine, most of us here would likely still have teleport if it were bumped.

Not me, I'd probably lose it. Not very high in Planar So no bumping Teleport, if people want to walk... then walk
Rodust2005-02-16 18:49:58
In Aetolia I had to walk everywhere as well. If Teleport got nerfed to hell it wouldn't really bother me. Walk everywhere in a realm for three years and you'll get used to it *twitch* Although I do agree that it is a bonus to playing Lusternia.
Shiri2005-02-16 18:55:36
Richter, most of us have high planar, perhaps. But that doesn't mean that the people who need it most, because they get lost so much, would still have it. We haven't missed "hours of work", we've missed "hours of wandering around." It's quite different.
