What I'm proposing is a mask artifact that hides your identity in a room.
Instead of your name, anyone in the room with you when you had the mask on would see "A masked Dracnari" if you were a Dracnari, etc.
You would still appear on who lists, unless of course you had a gem of cloaking as well. People could target you with your race or mask or a number for the mask on ih or something of that nature. This would allow you to hide your identity for any reason you saw fit. City guards would still attack you if you were an enemy. If you kill someone while wearing the mask and end up on their list, you appear as "Masked Dracnari 1" or something of that nature. They can still call vengence on you, but may not ever learn your identity.
This would allow for some interesting RP. I could kill someone, then come back and talk to them later, as their friend, not wearing the mask. If the Admins felt like it, they could make it a willpower or endurance drain similar to ghost to keep the mask on, to prevent overuse.
In IRE muds, as opposed to some others, people's names are obvious even if you've never met them before. This would help to add a level of realism and RP where you could be in a situation where a killer would have to be identified by description (this and your clothing would not be altered by your mask) or by their race, and allow for a sort of mystery solving outside of stewartsville.
Oh and make it cost like 4000 credits so not everyone has one
It would be quite hard to impliment, but I think it would be interesting. Even if it would never be implimented, I'm interested in people's oppinions on the merits of the idea. Thanks!

I like it!
Shiri2005-02-14 12:10:43
Shouldn't be that hard to implement. 'sbeen done before.
eirene2005-02-14 14:20:55
I think it is cool, but the key here is making it way expensive. It would not be good just to have tons of people anonymously killing others just for fun
Shiri2005-02-14 14:23:41
Much like it would not be fun for one person to get it and then have it made pointless because NO ONE ELSE HAS IT so you can tell anyway?

Warning: Imperian Idras ripoff!
Please, stay far away from this. Masks were cool, and extremely powerful in so many ways in Imperian, and this would just be way out of place, and have potential unbalancing effects.

Also you wouldn't be able to kill people w/it.
On account of avenger suspect lists. 'cause they ain't gettin' away from those.

I concur.

Care to elaborate, you two?
Unknown2005-02-14 22:37:16
How do you target or enemy someone if you don't know who they are?
Shiri2005-02-14 22:40:36
Generally "TARGET MAN" or something, from Imperian anyway.
Unknown2005-02-14 22:45:25
What if there are two?
I'm just curious, it seems very odd. What if they kill you? Do they completely avoid the avenger or do you see who it was by the change in your suspect list?

I actually thought about that, and I suppose a workable solution would be to just have "man11350" on suspect as well. (I assume they have numbers.)
Sekreh2005-02-15 01:11:58
Heh heh, I'll have you know I never set foot in imperian.
So shoot me if they had the same idea.
Yea, I would think target (race) with a preference of people that were masked, or give them numbers or something.
As I said in my post, they would still show up on suspect as a race with a number.

It would create too many imbalances. The divine have enough balance issues to deal with. If someone wants artifact fixes.. fix the knight arties. They are useless as is. I forged a helm today, first try, that was better than my artie helm.

Well, for one thing in Imperian, you cannot target a masked man, you have to know their name. Any aggressive action they do, causes the mask to fall away. It doesn't belong in Lusternia, and it will never come to Lusternia thankfully. I was an Idra in Imperian, and it simply would not belong here.
Malicia2005-02-15 11:06:01
Imperian was crammed with overpowered classes. Made everything nice and balanced, didn't it? *grin* Anyhow it seems like a nice idea, but wouldn't it be a bit overpowered? If there were a team of masked dracnaris raiding, that would be hell. I never played Imperian...how did it work there? If you were in a room with a group of masked Idras, who would you target? Seems like there'd be an ability in Vision that would allow you to indentify such targets.
Unknown2005-02-15 11:15:30
No, Imperian was not overpowered. Imperian was perfectly balanced, Imperian was finesse.
Daganev2005-02-15 11:19:09
Ha, the player base seems to always complain otherwise.
However, can warriors get the Scout AREA command from Trailblazing? that skill was awesome!

Predation - Mask
Syntax: SECURE MASK, REMOVE MASK
Should you have a mask in your possession, you may secure it across your face
to conceal your identity, allowing you to speak and perform certain actions
without being revealed. Keep in mind you cannot perform aggressive acts with
your mask secured.
Basically, if you performed any aggressive action, your mask would immediately fall away (i.e. kicking or attacking someone/something). All says and emotes and such showed merely a masked man. There was no way to tell who it was at all, only by sensing the locations of random Idras, till you found out which one was in the room with you, or using Seraph Presences (Angel Presences) or the Telepathy ability to tell you who's in the local area. Or you could scan the WHO list to see who is/was with you. You could NOT target MAN or whatnot, so you had no way at all of attacking the person, till you figured out who it was, and targetted their real name as normal.
Later, when they upgraded the underpowered Idras, to make them decent fighters, they added extra functionality to masks, and made it so that City guards could not recognize you, unless you lingered to long in the same room with them (like 6-7 seconds). Once recognized, all the guards would be notified, and thusly attack you on site. This was changed to make it so they actually have a chance to enter an enemy city, to compete with the skill of phase, but not as effective. There is no way to make an Idras remove his/her mask, it only drops away when they do an aggressive action.
Anyhow, leave masks over there.
