Yrael had a good idea to create a bribery skill. After some thought I wanted to make another thread explaining one way Id like to see it work if implemented.

Bribery would be an influence skill that would be used in a room adjacent to one with a guard or guards in it. The purpose of which would be to make the guard ignore the individual for a specific amount of time based on the success of the bribe. Ignoring the individual would mean not attacking them or shouting out that they were there over a city channel if the person passed through the room.

The more guards there were in a room the tougher it would be to bribe them. Gold would also have to be used in order to use the skill. Feats require power in order for them to work but bribery should require gold.

Bribery should work like influencing but the success of the brib should be modified by the amount of gold offered. To use the skill there should be a base amount of gold needed to even make an attempt, say 1k. Any gold amount over the 1k acts like a bonus to the bribe. So people with low influencing skills could still be successfull at a bribe if they offered a large enough gold amount. Conversly a person with a very high influencing skill would need less but would still have to pay the minimum to use the skill.

Guards who have been bribed will subsequently show up as corrupt for inflencing purposes and have to be influenced back to their normal selves. Corrupt guards in rooms where there are multiple guards act as a bonus towards bribing the other guards.

For example, there are 5 guards in a room, one is bribed and becomes corrupt. When the player attempts to bribe the second guard the corrupt guard gives him a 10% bonus to corrupting the second one. The more corrupt guards there are the more bonus the player gets in corrupting the others. Call it peer pressure or the corrupt guards leaning on their compatriots.

The purpose of bribery would be to gain access....at a price....to areas that currently are unreachable when the entry points to any given area are stacked 10 high with guards. RP is hampered when a person is enemied to a location which effectivly locks them out. What this causes is little bubbles of control which is fine but the only interaction allowed within these regions is conflict in the form of battle.

If your enemied and there is a guard you have to pass by its an automatic stop. Your either forced to walk away, kill the guard......which brings everybody from the city in....or run by the guard who shouts out anyhow and everybody comes running.

Bribery would be a good option for enemied people who wanted to sneak into a village to do a quest or scout it out without having to worry about being jumped by an entire city. If they are there to raid then the villagers are going to shout out anyhow so bribery only allows the person a way to move unnoticed through enemy lines.
