celahir2005-02-27 19:25:35

silimaur2005-03-01 13:32:01

Gryphor2005-03-01 15:18:36

The button from hell is a long time bug. It happens now and then when you goto create a button and at the last minute change your mind and instead of hitting cancel, just close the window. Closing and restarting zmud quite often solves this issue.

Had this problem too. It wouldn't go away either. I eventually found that the button was embedded in the class script but not in the settings wizard.

I love skins and interfaces, its my taste. Personally its very non-distracting for me. And no, there weren't any better body scan pictures that I found, and I did already use the Vitruvian man for the parry inset.

Here's my finished combat interface for achaea. The icons for my hands show me what I'm wielding in each hand, sword, doll, hammer, totem or empty, rest speaks for itself I think.

The screeens look really nice and all, but I'm really wondering, how many of you actually have time to look at everything instead of the scrolling text when you fight (especially in team fighting)?
Amaru2005-03-07 17:46:08
None of us, it's a selling point.
Terenas2005-03-07 17:51:32
Yeah, I don't think any decent fighters actually have to look at whatever buttons or such on the side to tell them how they're doing. The purpose of having a health or mana bar is nonexistent as you'll be getting all your info from your prompt anyway. They're really just there for show or personal enjoyment, but have little to no practical purposes.
Thorgal2005-03-07 18:15:40
Ya, 90% of it is completely useless, save for switching on and off the upkeep for defences and providing some information.
But it makes me feel good to log on to it every morning.

There is some value in a gauge that's smart enough to change color at a point you define, because a sudden change of color is something that'll catch your eye -- our eyes are wired for things like that. For example, imagine a gauge that turns red when you hit half mana if you're fighting someone who has a half-mana instakill, but doesn't go red until considerably lower against other classes. The trick to having flashy-lights be useful is to ensure that, as much as possible, they only flash when there's an important thing to be noticed; otherwise, they lose their efficacy through overuse. You can't control when the prompt changes color; sometimes it changes too early and sometimes not early enough.
Amaru2005-03-07 20:01:21
I do actually use the stat and score parts, glance at them instead of typing score/stat. And the mode lights are useful. And the target part.

I am continually impressed by what you guys do in zMud!
Are these setups completely individualized to one character/class or is it generic enough to zip up and distribute to others?

If you create dialoge options you can export the settings, otherwise they are fairly individualistic. atleast mine is.
Amaru2005-03-07 21:38:01
Menus in ZMUD are usually non-compatible, because it's all based on pixels. Even the button dimensions. Like one big bitmap file- put it in someone else's smaller monitor and it doesn't work at all.
Daganev2005-03-07 21:46:44
like I said... dialogue options.
