Well.. It's O'week here, and I went to my Uni for an Orientation in the Bachelor of Media yesterday, sat down in the bar to wait the hour for it to start, and pick up an orange sheet of paper to see what's planned for O'week..
Have a laugh that Will Anderson will be at SCU on Wednesday at 7.30.. so anyone going to see him, will miss The Glass House (The T.V. show that he hosts), turn the page and see that they've changed the time of the BoM orientation from 2pm-4pm to 6pm-8pm..
Now, I'd been working the week before to get to sleep at a time that would let me stay awake until about 5pm, so I could go to the Orientation and then go home to bed (most of the Summer, I've been sleeping during the day, because it's just been too hot to do anything other than lie on my waterbed with the fan going during the day).. Anyway, there was no way I was going to be able to stay awake until 8pm.. So, yeah, I got my goodies bag from the plaza, hopped on the bus and went home.
Now I'm stressing and panicing (I have no fingernails left that are bitable!) and worrying I've missed something important, which just adds to the stress I'm feeling from starting classes (I'm kinda anti-social, so going anywhere with lots of people just freaks me out) in a week or two...
ANYWAY! How does everyone deal with stress? Drugs (perscription or the illegal kind?), sleep more, eat more, smoke more, drink more? Meditate? Tell me!

This is where faith in a god that cares about you comes very handy.
The only time I stress is when I've forgotten to do work because I wasted my time playing around. And when I'm in that situation, I break up my problem into tiny bits and handle one thing at a time.
As yoda said to skywalker... you must confront your fears.

Uuuh.. Yeah.. Religious, I am not, and whenever someone says some crap about faith in God, and God has a plan.. I just cringe
Daganev2005-02-15 02:17:11
I don't think god having a plan would help you in this situation. Since that concept really isn't all that applicable here.
There are things you can control and things you can't. Worrying about things you can't helps nobody. Fixing things you can by making it more manigable is normally best for everyone.

I belong to a members only poetry site that features some very talented writers. I pop in a little music, grab an all-natural root beer, sit back and read.

When I am in situations like that (when I was starting a new school, going into a new large place full of people I don't know). I kind of just suck it up, and do it. That is probably no help at all, but if you get there, just try talking to people, keep putting one foot in front of the other, and you will get through it.

I've got a big interview tomorrow, and I've been all nerves since I sent my resume last Thursday (and got a phone call for an interview ONE hour later).
How am I dealing with it? I keep thinking about it, which gets me more wound up... it tends to go in circles though. I just hope all my research and thinking pay off tomorrow.
Good luck on that - I don't believe you should be faulted for a last-minute change of times.

I was just looking through my goodies bag and found a pamphlet for some organic stress meds.. Those people think of everthing..
Daganev2005-02-15 02:56:34
I would suggest not taking anything that is "organic" and supposedly modifies your brain behavior. They have a nasty habbit of raising your internal tempeture.

Valerian root (or valerian forte, in tablet form) is good for stress relief. Be aware that is is also quite powerful and is strong enough to put you to sleep aswell . That is what I use it for.
Jalain2005-02-15 03:03:47
Oh gods! Another thing from the goodies bag.. I found this yellow thing, smells like lemon.. Thought it might be some kind of lolly.. so I bit it... I just bit into soap.
Horrible horrible horrible taste in my mouth.

Daganev2005-02-15 03:05:23
You are starting to remind me of the yellow guy from "drawn together"
Jalain2005-02-15 03:11:04
*mutters and finds a chuppa-chup*
Now this is a lolly!
But honestly.. Why would they put soap in those bags?!
There's a study diary, wall planner, packet of corn chips, a lollipop, all good.. can of baked beans, maaaaybe... a condom, some water based lubricant.. and soap.. I mean.. What kind of orientation was this supposed to be?!
Edit: Oooh.. an apple!

At my school's orientation they put in Tampons.
Soap is probably from health services to remind you to wash your hands, or some silly thing like that.

Well they could put the word "Soap!" on it somewhere.. or better yet.. "Soap! Do not bite in half!"
My teeth are still making squeaky noises from the waxy coating they got. This lollipop has taken care of the taste, though.

apparently stress has caused you to lose your animal instincts. Even dogs can tell whats food and whats dead whale blubber.
Unknown2005-02-15 03:42:45
Hahaha oh dear.
Jalain2005-02-15 04:05:28
You... Just had to mention whale blubber, didn't you? My lasanga dinner almost met the grass outside my window.

When I deal with stress, the first thing I do is talk to my friends about it. You may think of it as dumping my problems on them, but it's really just because it's nice to hear someone say "Oh, don't worry about it "
Then after that, I try to do meditative breathing. When I get really upset or nervous, I get a mild anxiety attack where my chest tightens up, I have more difficulty breathing, and I start shaking...sooo...I usually try to do this thing where I breathe in and then..breathe my stress out. It actually helps sometimes. I get it really bad when I have to give big presentations or speeches. Then I listen to music I like if I'm at home or in the car.

I don't have any friends.. Fell out of contact with them when I dropped out of highschool
