Dang, I didn't even think of punching the finks, though I was so frustrated with taking eight swings at the little buggers. I got so fed up that I saved up my gold and bought a vial of bromides, and ran around begging from everything I could, in Newtons.

Which is also frustrating. Because as a knight, you're supposed to kill things, darn it. Guess I'll try punching and kicking, next time.

Wait... weren't / aren't you a moondancer? I can't log on to check at the moment.

Oh, if you manage to catch me in-game in the few minutes I'm there every day or so, I'll give you a few pieces of jewellery. All I got is waterwalk and deathsight enchantments though. Racial regen is good biggrin.gif

Well as a novice knight, Serenguard to be exact biggrin.gif ,I felt pretty well off because I didn't know that the 10 hits it required for me to kill a regular fink was bad, I have never seen anyone else bash, as the second I see someone else I run because I'm afriad they may be evil and I'm not supposed to talk to them. But I'm now at level 11 and have at least seen an improvement killing a regular fink takes about 5 hits with my clubs and thats with my bear totem on, and I can usually kill 6 finks of varing kinds before I must sleep and thats with vitality on. But I can't complain too much at least all the rooms I have to look at are well written happy.gif So over all I guess a "powergamer" starting as a novice might be annoyed. But I doubt your losing too many people to it. Well at least in a world where every is like me and only levels because I want to rp. But I can't deny that theres a bashing problem as theres good evidence to that effect from people who look like they know what there talking about.

Though once novicehood is over, knights are THE best bashing class (I just brought a Serenguard Igasho up to level 45 in a matter of a day or two)

I think that warrior novices are absurdly underadvantaged in bashing until they gain their specialization.

This is one thing about IRE games that has always seemed strange to me. Knights and monks are effective bashers at high level (Fabled/Mythical) of their respective bashing skills (Tekura/Weaponry), while at low level they simply suck because they miss a lot or do very little damage.

Magic using classes, however, are much more effective (from occultist warp to magi stonefists to, of course, guardian's cosmicfire). Hey, my novice Celestine could kill rats faster than my lvl 70 knight in Imperian!.

I always thought things should be the opposite: any dumb person can grab a shortsword by the non-pointy end and stick the pointy end into an opponent. However, to be minimally effective at channeling mystical energies to damage your opponent has to be something really difficult (much more than the 15 lessons in Cosmic that it requires).

In fantasy games, literature, etc, wizard apprentices are always the most helpless classes/people. But then, when they attain mastery, they become fearsome opponents. This seems to be the inverse in all IRE games.

Also in terms of economic viability, the vial of health costs 400 from Bob, or 170ish per refill, and the single turtle that it was used up fighting will drop at most 50 gold, and even then only rarely drops it.

I believe that the economic viability of bashing is a totally different issue. Bash rats instead and you'll get lots of gold smile.gif

I'm thinking there should be more balance for this, true... I've found it difficult to bash at all with a knight class at low levels, especially since I didn't have the money to get any remotely good weapons. Just looking at the ridiculousness of being unable to even kill a baby rat before it ran away, and having a magic-user who never missed and what's more can instant kill them... it seemed extremely out of place to me.

Such is the life of the knight aspirant...

For starters, I believe that Knights are always the best customers (at least on other realms), always needing armour, weapons, elixirs, clothes, poisons, herbs, food... so as a knight, you'd normally would be spending thousands to get your act together. But what was more difficult was actually getting to be able to kill things, instead of missing constantly.

In Lusternia, still is quite difficult for novice warriors to accomplish anything, but in the end all warriors are capable of becoming Thundars, Conans, He-Men and Xenas tongue.gif Though, knights in here have to "quest" for magical swords... because weapons are quite rare and expensive to get.

I definately intend to work a knight through at some point when I have a little more time and money around. You're right, they take a lot of effort, and once they have their equipment sorted, they can normally do pretty damned well.

I'm not finding that much trouble as a novice knight. With clubs and aggressive combatstyle, I can kill a fink or gnome with a left swing, right swing. But it probably helps that my combat skill is fairly high, as well as my knighthood. I expect that my ability to hit and kill things will improve as I gain more skills in those areas.

Sounds like an improvement.

If so, thank you, Gods!

Best thing I've enjoyed about a knight though is Athletics have a lot of nice defenses from Kaido in the other IRE games, and I don't have to spend thousands of golds on venoms. happy.gif

I've tried bashing as a Nihilist and a Warrior, and although Warriors have a much harder time, it's still nothing compared to the Knights in all other games where you have to cough up 300 credits right away just to be able to bash to level 30 without spending your entire life on it. My Warrior is bashing now at 100% past Adept Knighthood about as well as my Achaean Knight was at Fabled Weaponry. So Warriors have it good, I'd say - this is the first time ever that I am playing a knight noob and it doesn't feel like I am in fact a black slave picking cotton on some farm from dawn till dusk, with a bowl of water once a day as my only meal.
