With the gateweave skill, perhaps make it so that an enchanter can enchant a planar gate object? So you could drop it, start to weave the gate, and then it could only be destroyed via someone with the enchantment ability to squash sigils, and the ability to destroy the gates in Planar, meh.
Daganev2005-02-15 22:29:45
Now thats not an anti serenwilde idea is it? Naw couldn't be.
Unknown2005-02-15 22:30:33
Mmm, no I don't like it. Don't make me start screaming 'enchantment monopoly'.
Shiri2005-02-15 22:30:44
I don't care if it's an anti Serenwilde ability, I want nifty gates all over the place.
EDIT: But have the gate destroying part and the enchantment destroying part not have to be done by the same person. And the enchantment destroying part take ages too.

Oi. It wasnt an anti-Serenwilde idea, the closest thing that was in my head at the point to 'Serenwilde' was 'How long will it take Shiri to find this post?'.
To stop it from being 'Anti-tree hugger', critique the gates, then.

*ponder* I think Ill need to get myself a Celest enchanter to cover the Earth plane and nil with those puppies. I need a way to get up to Astral.
Shiri2005-02-16 00:46:11
Yrael, I'm a bot, I don't need to find posts, presumably I'm omnipresent. I just have to, uh...formulate a response with...some...databases. Or something. Yesh.
Silvanus2005-02-16 00:54:50
I gots it!
Hehe
Anyways.
You can use your power/reserves to make a permagate for x amount of years, its 10 power for every year. So, you can have a permagate for 11 years.

Nice idea Silvanus.
The only thing about it that I found anti-serenwilde was the fact that it relied so heavely on enchantments.

Shiri2005-02-16 00:58:30
Ehhhhh...that's way too little? Maybe more like...a city can do it, for 30 power a...day. Or more. How'ssat?
Silvanus2005-02-16 01:01:18
10% reserves for 6 months.
Shiri2005-02-16 01:12:20
That's WAY too long for a permanent gate. 5% reserves makes a gate that can be busted in 15 minutes by 5% reserves in return, and you want 10% reserves to make it irrevocable for 6 months? Nah. I actually think 100 power per day is more viable for a city to force a permanent gate, given that (now) it costs 500 power to prevent teleportation out of a village for a day.
Olan2005-02-16 02:32:41
I think something should be done one way or another, as it stands, the gateweave ability is almost totally useless, and planar travel has to be much more restricted then was envisioned. Any rift is going to be destroyed by SOMEONE, excepting a rift frm a Seren controlled village to Ethereal.
Shiri2005-02-16 02:42:27
Exaaactly. But I think it's fair for, say, Magnagora to have to put quite a lot of power in if they expect free access to the Ethereal from, say, just outside of the city. It should NOT be done on personal reserves, as that's way too overpowered.
Typhus2005-02-17 19:32:12
High Magic and Low Magic skill them. Use the Spheres and whatever Low is to strengthen the hold on the gate.
