To help clarify the argument, which seems to have been lost before it even started, the issue is the following:
1) Knockdown, which is a medium affliction, is more often dealt out even at higher levels. Even if you were at critical, with the limb on 0, you would probably get knockdown more than breakleg or mangled.
2) Knighthood afflictions do not check to see whether or not the target already has this affliction before firing.
So, I think the suggestion is, that if they are in a higher wound state than the affliction that gets assigned, and they already have that affliction (prone, broken leg), check for the next higher one.
I think that sounds reasonable, being as the wound is already in a state befitting that affliction.
