Back to Common Grounds.

I just wanted to be the one to create a topic about something new and hip, for once.

Er... discuss!
Shamarah2005-02-16 00:16:57
You beat Shiri?

I know he's not on right now, but I'm still surprised even then, he usually manages to post telepathically!

Shiri2005-02-16 00:21:12
...hm, looks pretty sweet. *manages to get to third at least*
Jack2005-02-16 00:21:22
Tuek just killed a few Angkrag dwarves. Think he was trying to get us to test it out and waste some power.
Daevos2005-02-16 00:21:41
Its a interesting change, but its just not cost effective to use.
Drago2005-02-16 00:24:42
Yeah. 500 power to stop someone escaping isn't worth it. I'd rather just use 50 power, walk in with two guards and watch them run.
Shiri2005-02-16 00:29:11
Well, really, what all else are you doing with that power? And it would help during raids in general as well. If you can break up a group, you've instantly screwed up all the little members that join in and help, because they will be lost and not know the way out. (Or, are more likely.)
Unknown2005-02-16 00:30:54
I think it might be useful during mass raids...
Estarra2005-02-16 00:47:45
Remember it also lasts for 60 minutes. I was considering adding more discretionary powers that are guild specific but if no one's going to use it, I won't waste my time.

I thought 500 power wasn't that high and not unreasonable... what's more reasonable and why?
Unknown2005-02-16 00:53:05
Well, 500 power is 25-50 lichdoms. For something that only lasts an hour I could go and flail helplessly around Rockholm, expending maybe 60 power to take the heat off one of our villages for an hour, and I might not even die once.

I don't think Serenwilde needs it since they always have someone who can wisp or flow and all of their villages are always forested. Put a bunch of guards into one room and just wisp the fellow in, has happened to me many times.

Thus, the only city that might find it cost effective is Celest. Which makes me feel sorry for them unsure.gif

I love it, personally. What else are you going to spend your hundreds of thousands of surplus power on, kids? Its application seems a bit limited, however, as I can only see it being used to stop large groups from raiding dwarves. Why doesn't anyone ever try to raid those silk spiders, or try to kill farmers?

It would be cool to see certain powers like this usable in enemy or contested villages, as well. Allow a guild champion to call up a handful of specially designed soldiers to assist in battle, or provide other supportive benefits, ect.

Uh, no. Village influencing will never involve moving troops into villages.
Unknown2005-02-16 01:02:39
Hmmm... I like it, just make it so souls can't move, and it blocks catacombs, and everything will be fair.

Oh, yes, that would defeat the whole 'we don't want a lot of fighting in village influencing anyway' point. blush.gif

Anyway, even without troops involved, I could see some interesting uses for those obelisks in contested villages, perhaps abilities that boost/decrease peoples' ability to influence. And if two or more sides have active powers over the village, the power fields could sort of 'battle' for...

Gah, i'm starting to think of Lusternia as a real-time stratagy game.
Estarra2005-02-16 01:20:10
Sorry, Guido, but if the village is uncontested, then no city or commune would have their nexus linked to the obelisk! The logic of discretionary power is able to channel it from the nexus to the obelisks. If the village is contested, there's no link. So all powers would only be available in uncontested villages.
Unknown2005-02-16 01:23:16
Damn your logic.
Daganev2005-02-16 01:26:51
Even though cities appear to have lots of power, I'm guessing a person raides a village, 4 times a day. So thats 2K power a day that would be used up if the power was used for anything more than emergencies. I'm thinking that 300 or 200 power would make the field used more often, especially during non peak hours. I think 500 power would make a security official want to have Council approval before using it.
Erion2005-02-16 01:31:34
Estarra, what about abilities that would boost the strength of the village loyals, which stays when the villages reject the city/commune it's loyal too? I'm thinking especially in regards to Angkrag, where people run in and kill all the dwarves. Or us raiding for dwarves, too. Make the mobs a lot stronger. But at a heavy cost. Lossa power!

Or you know, you guys could buy more guards? tongue.gif
Erion2005-02-16 02:45:16
Guards isn't the issue. I could buy a ton of guards, but they still won't do squat when someone can run through w/ quicken and kill a miner in 2 seconds.

EDIT: On that note, hell, why not? Power increase, bonus to all city-loyals in that area.
