Runes and illusions are -required- to fight as a mage (unless you're Ceres...). Yes, someone with a good system can easily cure them, hell, Nayl told me that she can take care of runes with 2 triggers and one variable. It's really that simple. But it provides us with the neccessary distractions to -try- and work something out.

What delayed instant kill is better? NOTHING! Chasm is the fastest, easiest to use, etc. You can make all the claims you want that it is second rate. Any decent fighter will tell you (including Amaru, ironically) that chasm rocks.
That doesn't remove the fact that it's FRIGGIN EASY AS HELL to escape. Only a fool who doesn't pay attention dies to chasm. Or those who don't have tumble/leap.

Did she bother to tell you that you actually have to store all the healing inside that variable? I'm assuming her two triggers are for runes slung in the room and runes slung in from another room. It's not extremely complex, but it still isn't as easy as you made it sound.
Revan2005-02-17 23:17:33
No, she didn't, but then again, I'm not a coder, so I don't care
Geb2005-02-17 23:37:42
Yes most people can cure runes well, but the function of runes does not require people to be poor at curing. If runes were meant to totally disable people, the rune skillset would include anorexia and asthma.
Runes, with the help of affliction illusions, are mages harass and hinder abilities. They help slow down the offensive onslaught of others, while giving us time to pour on our own offensive. Without runes, a mage out of his demesne would be as easy to kill as a black rat.

I don't fight with runes and illusions, only phantom and stars.
I just run away, point staff, run away, point staff. Repeat.

For the most part, only two types of people can get out of chasm easy: People who can force and people who can tumble. As Jelaludin has stated earlier in this thread, make a chasm illusion and you might be suprised because in a mere illusion, you can send your opponent speeding away giving you time to heal, etc.

Hmm, duely noted. I'll try that. Though, there's a VERY easy solution to that tactic. It's called Trans Arts.

Last time I recall, Geb, Tuek, and Ethelon, all who have trans Arts have reported to never being able to see past illusions.
Ceres2005-02-18 11:18:53
Seeing through illusions is very strange.
With trans illusions and a little discernment, I see through them about 1% of the time, but Geb, with trans discernment, arts and illusions, seems to note only the same rate. This would seem to suggest that it's only illusions that lets you see through them, but non-mages have noted doing so occasionally (apparently at the same rate). So...

I'm under the impression that the skill of making illusions indetectable scales up a lot more quickly than the skill of piercing them. 'cause when you're a novice everyone sees through, about midway less and less do, and when you're trans the 1% you've experienced. That might've changed, of course.

Would Nature or Statue in Illusions stop you getting hit by Chasm?

I do not think so. I know that a loyal is ordered to attack a mage before he goes into statue or rock mode, the loyal will continue to attack the mage after he is in the mode. I guess two Geos could test it and find out (If I were the Geos, I would not give out the results though).

Woot, Serenguard is catching up to Geomancer as the worst class off. Awesome.

*note* I would like to point out that the “sit trick†is a prime example of being a creative fighter. This takes no special skill. It just takes a little bit of foresight. This is why Tuek and I are decent. We think ahead.
That's also amazing RP. Sitting down in mid-battle = insane.

...er...if you know that people are going to try and magically compel you out of the room, why not? :/

Cause they could magically compel you to stand up as well?
Shiri2005-02-22 17:54:10
They can compel you to give them your pack, so don't bother putting a flame sigil on it or having reflexes to put it back on?
