Are there any?
If so which skills are they in?
Which attributes contribute to damage/speed?
which are the strongest?
and can they be performed while flying {at people on the ground}

Thanks in advance!
Daganev2005-02-17 21:59:45
Mages... the answer is yes and mages.
Shryke2005-02-17 22:03:19
possibly a little elaboration?
Daganev2005-02-17 22:04:39
The only class I know that can easily and consistantly attack from afar are the Mage type classes.
You can fly and hit, throw things, shoot from 10 rooms away, whatever.
Terenas2005-02-17 22:05:29
I think Daganev pretty much said it all, only Magi and Druid have ranged attacks. And they each do unique types of damage, there isn't a best type, though some would argue heat staff is better than the other two.
Shiri2005-02-17 22:06:46
There's also runeslinging. And the Rage coven, but that's highly specialised and stuffs.
Daganev2005-02-17 22:08:10
You would want high intelegence and quick equelibrium

Yeah, forgot runes, but again, only accessible to Mage/Druid. Also boulderblast and hailstorm are available to Magi as well. I wouldn't consider putting Rage in the same category since you need 5 Moon users to use it and only once every Lusternian month. We need more ranged attacks for everyone else! sad.gif
Shiri2005-02-17 22:14:01
Actually, it can be done in the local area for 23/25 days of the month, so it's still possible during influencing. Say with Estelbar. Last time it worked fairly well there. *cough4ragesinarowwhoopscough*

so a fealing druid would be pretty good, or should i go for a geomancer faeling or something? Druids can sling runes (how many rooms) plus magic attacks right? In other words, which class has the most ranged attacks... I´m sorta looking forward to kiillin from afar, idealy...
Shiri2005-02-17 22:19:58
No, faeling aren't good at anything, trust us. If you want to fight, Elfen for Hartstone, Viscanti for Geomancer. And the long-range skills all pretty much require you spend money on the game, so throw that idea out if you can't.
Shryke2005-02-17 22:24:24
But, wouldn´t it be good if I could fly? that is sort of the idea... Anyway, if I were to spend money, which class would i want to choose?
Shiri2005-02-17 22:27:15
Flying doesn't accomplish much, it just puts you on a different elevation. There's very little interaction involved, and also there are so many ways to break flying (particularly with mages, actually) it's not even funny. Faeling flight isn't worth the statistics. And if you were going to spend money, and want to fight from a distance, any mage is good. Look at the 3 city ideologies and find which you prefer.
Daganev2005-02-17 22:29:12
You want mugwump or merian or stuff like that.
Dracnari isn't bad/
Shiri2005-02-17 22:30:26
Merian -only- if you're Aquamancer. Viscanti/Elfen are better for the Geomancers/Hartstone respectively, really.
Shryke2005-02-17 22:31:09
I like the evil one, so, the geomancers... I don´t exactly want to be a viscanti... they dont suit me so much, what about lucidians or something.. maybe a list from best to worst mage races?
thanks! so many replies!!!
well i guess I missed all those race replies... hehe so fast!
Daganev2005-02-17 22:31:50
maybe for all around combat prowess, but he wants to be able to shoot from afar, be quick and stuff.

He needs speed and high int, and low size.
Eldanien2005-02-17 22:34:33
If I may say, you sound like a defensive combatant. Mages, while they have demesne, seem to be better in aggressive combat within their area of control or the appropriate terrain. That, or summoning folk to them.

Simply choosing 'ranged attacks' doesn't really address the issues of game combat so well.
Shryke2005-02-17 22:36:42
what do you suggest?
actually I prefer aggressive combat, but I like the idea of striking from nowhere... Unfortunately there are no snakeys in lusternia...
Daganev2005-02-17 22:41:39
I find a fully developed Aquamancer or Geomancer to be very Snake like. *shrug*

They have illusions, they can set traps, block people really good, all sorts of sneaky combat type activities.
