What 24 hours as a novice then left? I was in Serenwilde for almost a year and the Moondancers for years! Of course it's "what rights?" now since you abolished them.
Shiri2005-02-22 23:30:27
What rights did you have before, to unconvincingly pretend you're actually a guild? And yeah, you were, but what part of that was work towards being a rogue? Apart from the bit where you left?
Summer2005-02-22 23:34:20
*inno* Doesn't change the fact that I was still in Moondancers. And joined several resurgem covens. And donated (okay, once) to the guild shop. And taught several novices. And helped the odd novice... what else have I done?
Edit: Oh yeah, also gave ideas / discussed how to improve the guild!

Nothing that means that being a rogue is a result of hard work?
Summer2005-02-22 23:40:26
Oh, misunderstood your question then.
Hard work as a rogue:
- Walking to glomdoring if I want to get up on eth. (Before rogue was TELEPORT NEXUS)
- Walking to the spots I most often harvested from Portal (Is quite a bit longer than from Seren nexus)
- Dealing with idiots who keep assuming for some reason that I'm Seren *eye Yrael and a few others who have been less mean and shall therefore go unnamed*
- Having to explain umpteen times why I went rogue (both when I quit Seren and again when I quit Moondancers)
- Not having access to city / guild news (okay, so I'm stretching here)
- Having to entertain yourself / find your own entertainment (no access to commune / guild channels)
Edit: Oh, and of course exploring / knowing enough so you can make it on your own without the support of a guild / city.

Wasn't work that led up to it, is work after it. (And you could just ask me. )

Or you could ask me or someone else. Also same as first one, not work that led up to it.

Not really work, more random being attacked.

Same as 1 and 2.

Not even VAGUELY work!

Okay, fine. But you can just get a clan.
...and you're still not a guild.
Summer2005-02-22 23:45:58
And the preparation that leads up to being able to do the "work" that comes after becoming rogue?
And you're going to be willing to help me get around 20 times a day? Well... maybe _you_ just might, considering how helpful you are But you aren't around all the time, and there's such a thing as standing on your own feet.

Yeah, I am going to be willing, so stop complaining.

you for being nuts.
Oh, still doesn't change the fact that you robbed us rogues of our rights!

The conclusion about rogues, in my opinion, is that they are in no ways a guild and in fact most of them break all ties with them upon leavig. Also, there are those rogues that even decide to quit the city they reside...
So, again stating that rogues don't count as guilds, you can't expect them to be involved on matters that are completely interguild, or guild related... because there is no rogue guilds, the rogues out there don't even unite... they choose to be alone, or were forced to be alone.... like true lone wolves, and as a lone wolf a rogue has to work harder than a guild member because they have no support group and decided to abandon whatever benefits being part of a group offer.
So, Summer... no rogues on this poll is good! Rogues can be acknowledged but they threw away all rights and privileges, for a life of "solitude".

Pfft... grouping with other rogues come under "working to entertain yourself" Deepnight has quite a few rogues *inno* And working for your own support group is well... work. As opposed to "select " and "select " to get said support group automatically.
A life of solitude or a life of more freedom and choice, without hundreds of pesky rules that seem to multiply by the day?
Oh, I wouldn't say that a rogue has to work harder though. Both guild and rogue work hard, just in different aspects.

Guilds place rules/guidelines make edicts/decrees, but you don't have to fully follow them
If you cannot find freedom on a guild then you have really developed a sense of being caged by it.
Imo, I'm all for mavericks... those who learn to live in a guild and completely manage to live without sticking to any rules. The fact is, that you are one rogue, alone. You may group with many people, may go to many places... but you remain one. Alone. Single. Rogue. The true conception of a lone wolf. So... as such you are completely independant from a guild...
Rogues should be treated as ronins.

*peer Kenshin screwing that whole concept up*
Desdemona2005-02-23 02:01:01
Eh? The term used for Kenshin was rurouni. Though Kenshin never had a lord to ever be a ronin. He was a hired-sword, yes, but he selected the side to which to work as an assassin.
You dislike Rurouni Kenshin?

Shiri2005-02-23 02:05:45
Yeah, Rurouni is just "wanderer." Although technically it's a madeup word. And I do dislike it, but not for any real reason I can think of. Probably that it's so episodic, nothing really happens.
Desdemona2005-02-23 02:21:15
That anime is one of the best out there, in my opinion. Though after the battle against Shishio, the Christian Saga the series began to decline a bit. Anyway, I think that the correct term to talk about Kenshin (on his assassin days) should be hitokiri, and now ruruoni (even if it is made up)... because normally a ronin, if didn't kill themselves, would still be willing to use their swords as hired swordsmen. Kenshin on the other hand was like "I have a sword but I will not use it... unless you make me".
If you wish to think about ronins think about Miyamoto Musashi and The Book of the Five Rings
