Here is my idea.
Between the hours of 2am and 7am Pacfic western time. (i.e when nobody is around)
Make it not possible to raid villages.

Better yet, make it so that you can never kill more guards or denizens than there are people logged into the city at that time.

So if 30 people are logged on in the city you are attacking, you can choose your combination of 30 guards or 30 dwarves that you want to kill.

But if only 5 people are logged in, you can only kill 5 guards or 5 denizens.

Thank you,

Good night.

I'm sure even manipulitive followers of the goddess of the fair and even blade can figure this one out.

"Terentia delights in combat and is particularly partial to strategic,
large-scale warfare. She, however, is not a savage goddess and shows no
favor to those who love unrestrained bloodshed nor to those who create
conflict solely for the sake of violence. She loathes those who
excessively indulge their turbulent natures, for they are those who have
sullied the good name of combat.
"

Ignore that last part, just look at the idea.

You're not serious, right? tongue.gif -I'm- around during those times you just said...granted, I don't raid much. :/ But I could.

Sorta.
Daganev2005-02-20 12:59:39
During those times there is an average of 30 people online total. I'll be nice and assume 10 per city.

I'm only half joking because its 5am right now and I have more programming to get done.
Unknown2005-02-20 13:00:29
I raid during busy hours too. I just prefer to raid with Narsrim, it's more fun and effective, especially when I go Mugwump for the damage and speed, and he is dwarf to absorb the hits of the guards as I kill them, and those are the times he is online.
Daganev2005-02-20 13:02:58
Yes that was why I said you can kill 30 guards while 30 people are around.
During busy hours you can kill as much as you want.

Its the whole waking up to finding everything dead because nobody was around thats annoying.

I've always found it annoying, and thought I'd offer some sort of suggestion.

If your going to say "but I can't kill 30 guards when 30 people are around, only when 5 people are around" Well to me that kinda proves my point.
Shiri2005-02-20 13:10:58
I found it -highly- annoying during the war when Daevos & Valek kept attacking when no one was there to fight back, but you can't just stop fighters that can only be around during the wrong times, it's not really fair. :/
Daganev2005-02-20 13:13:23
Who said anything about stop?

The concept is limit, not stop.

Is it more fair to mess up 30 people's lives because they weren't around at the right time, or to minorly inconvinence 1 or 2 people who are trying to ruin the lives of those 30 people?

Mind you, I find it annoying no matter who does it.
Shiri2005-02-20 13:23:46
Losing the guards doesn't really "mess up their lives", it's not like you're killing -them- while they're asleep, just damaging the city a bit. And it's not as though the cities don't have power to afford them. And now if you have even ONE security-type person (okay, I forget who can do it) it makes the job a lot harder. (...well, if they're a warrior.) And 5 -is- stop, basically. 5 guards is nothing.

You've obviously never been robbed while on vacation. Or Just arn't using that experience to elucidate other ones.

That has great IC value: You attempt to slay a guard but find that you have reached your quota until another person logs on.

EDIT: Tuek and Narsrim versus 30 guards placed in Angkrag by Magnagora... we have to sneak in, locate weak spots in defenses, and attack. I call that strategy and large scale. Furthermore, Terentia also -despises- the Taint... so I think killing a few undead guards won't piss her off too much. I'd like to think she'd be proud.
Daganev2005-02-20 13:33:43
How about...

"You attempt to attack the guard, but find yourself swinging in the air as they run for cover seeing there is no back up"

That's rather an overblown parallel, I think. For one thing, you personally don't miss anything, for another in RL it's not really anyone's right to just rob whenever they want. Or have you had 6 armed people burgle your house while you were in it and knock you unconscious so they can pilfer your stuff? :/

They'd have to be quite agile to dodge an array of magical energies firing out of my hand at excessive speeds. How about nature curse for Hartstone? Are they going to dodge stigmatic lesions appearing on their skin and rupturing?
Daganev2005-02-20 13:38:21
I think at this point I'll let the idea and arguments against it, speak for themselves.
Unknown2005-02-20 13:43:39
As for defenders, you had Ixchilgal, Nali, Kaervas, Marsu, Revan, and yourself, just sitting in Magnagora as we romped through Angkrag. It was Narsrim and I alone, you had more then enough defenders.

Rather then trying to change how it works, why not just get up, join together, and chase us off? You didn't even have one security aide with which to summon more guards, or use discretionary powers?
Daganev2005-02-20 13:49:58
As that has nothing to do with what my post was about, I'll respond.

A) I guess dieing 2 or three times to you doesn't count as getting up and trying to chase you off.

2) Correct, there were no aides able to use such powers or move guards.

A) What do you expect? To come alone with no one else will do the job? If all of you came at once, rather then sitting on your collective rear ends, it would have been a done deal.

2) And wrong, Kaervas is a Champion, he has all security privileges.
Daganev2005-02-20 13:56:09
Again, that has nothing to do with the point, if you really want to argue about what people were or were not able to do you can send me a PM.

The idea is to limit the amount of damage that can be done to an organization during times where people of said organization are not about to defend or retaliate.
Unknown2005-02-20 14:14:23
Guess what? Lusternia is a real time world. The world continues changing and evolving, whether you are logged in or not. What you are proposing, is the equivalent of me saying the game should end when I am not logged in, and resume at the exact same point when I return.
Gregori2005-02-20 14:48:02
Shouts are heard from around the Basin as Gregori logs off for the night, "Game off."

Shouts are heard from around the Basin as Gregori logs in for the day, "Game on!"

How about we just make it so that if Tuek and Narsrim are in the realms, the Magnagoran guards commit suicide en masse so that they do not have to be slaughtered?

Saves both sides the trouble of killing or defending them.
