So... I'm interested. What's your favourite area? Please give your reasons - from a questing, bashing, description, mobiles, or general feel point of view. And (as always) I'd like you to speak as a player rather than a character, so if you're a Serenwilder and like Magnagora, don't be afraid to say so.
Thanks in advance!

Hmm...the part of Faethorn with all the bizarre buildings is kinda cool, but my favourite's probably Glomdoring. It's got a great creepy atmosphere.

I like all the areas that tie into the histories and have mobs that have more than one use and intracate quests.
i.e. I like spectre isle and the whole different Seas thing.

The astral plane is really cool, if a bit grotesque.
Silvanus2005-02-20 21:08:00
Angkrag, it has so much hidden history.

Glomdoring, and Ethereal Glomdoring. It's got some great quests, with very nice rewards (Honours lines galore, Karma, mounds of gold...), excellent bashing, and it has the whole 'spooky forest' thing going on very well.
After Glomdoring, i'd have to say Faethorn. That place has some amazing descriptions.

Spectre Isle's great for questing, gaining karma, getting experience, and generally just exploring. There's a great melancholy air to it, emphasised by the nice little quasi-sinister touches (the mausoleum, the hidden shrine to Fain, etc). Glomdoring's gotta have a say, too - just like Spectre only worse experience, better karma and a far richer history and ambience. And I've only been to Astral once, but it seems well planned. (As well as ridiculously large and, judging by certain logs, downright weird.)

I'm a big fan of Magnagora, the atmosphere and feel of the city can really be felt, especially at the Megalith. The bells, the presence of the Megalith, Ardrak, all very well done.
Glomdoring is similarly good, good atmosphere and denizens that really seem to fit the area.
I really also like how different areas are more or less structured in their layout. For example, the Ethereal plane is very structured and symmetrical. Glomdoring is crazy and random, easy to get lost in, in a really creepy way. Roads make sense and go straight fairly often. Places like the sea of despair are structured technically, but the waves toss you around to make up for it. The Caves on Earth are both unstructured AND have the random movement element. Some of this may be a result of different builders, but I like to think at least most of it is intentional. Oh, and the city design of Celest alone made me want to live there (briefly).
I'm personally not a huge fan of the Serenwilde set up...my alt traveled through there in his youth, and I could never find anything (particularly the person who buys weevils). If I didn't have Thorgal's maps, I'd probably have just given up entirely. Maybe that's just me, and it works well in the long run for an 'exclusive' type group to have less accessible areas.
Least favorite: I know you didn't exactly ask for this, but none of the planes seem THAT exciting. Nil is good for atmosphere and I'm sure Nihilists really enjoy it, but Earth and Astral are really JUST bashing grounds.

Also, the various Fulcruxes are very nice. I can't stand around Roark's too long without fearing that a bird is going to eat me, though.

I really like the creativity and variety of the designs in Faethorn and Astral. Faethorn gets the whole "beautiful but surreal" thing about right. Astral can be disgusting but really interesting. Plus, the danger element is fun and matches the histories really well.
I loved exploring Astral and finding the obesefessors mentioned in the histories too.
Spectre Isle is really interesting for historical reasons as well. I like the whole haunted island / "rememberance of the past" theme.
I unfortunately haven't had much of a chance to sightsee in Magnagora. Although fleeting impressions reveal that the masses of guards have a horrible effect on the decor and need to be removed. Oh, and that megalith thing needs to be shortened. It dominates the skyline too much.

ethereal Serenwilde for descriptions, and newbie areas for the very funny quests.
Areas that are looping and random should die though. I'm kidding, I'm kidding! They're great in concept and for playing really, just a pain to map.

Glomdoring. Great atmosphere and, just, everything.

Glomdoring and faethorn. Also like the commune proper in serenwilde, but it'd be nicer if it had a bit more variety, both to the rooms and the room emotes like the trees swaying and stuff.

Astral Plane - Like Dumihru said, sometimes its downright disgusting but I'm quite partial to it. The way the spheres connect at intervals is great, the surreality is always nice and the fact that you can apply so many different stories to it, especially Gemini. The way the rooms are described there is a lot of history there. Its also quite dangerous, has free power and great mobs with a good amount of gold. The hunting there is also really great in that you have to link to the nodes to draw out more baddies. I like that.
Oleanvir Valley - This is not a spectacularly impressive place but I think that's one of its charms. Its just a nice valley as far as descriptions go but the wild horses, hares and rocs flesh it out very well. I really like the rocs especially since the inclusion of the giant one. What really sells me on the Oleanvir though are the adders. I -love- the way the adders look. They're gorgeous. Good place for harvesting too.
Celest is notable for the pastel gravel paving the streets. Nice touch.
The entire Ethereal plane is particularly deserving of praise. The structure is good, the descriptions are also good, the blending of Glomdoring and Serenwilde is good. There's not tons to do up there if you're not Seren but its still nice to stroll through. Having mobs to hunt up there that weren't loyal to anything, some kind of big game perhaps, would be really nice.
Those are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head.

Glomdoring and Ethereal.

I love the atmosphere and descriptions of the Moondance Tower. I can just see the whole layout in my head when my character is walking around it and the descriptions make things really vivid. I love my Ridien, too.

I really like all of the Ethereal Plane, Glomdoring, and some places of the Tosha Monastery.
And Laneth: Ridien was mine first! Mine!

I love glomdoring, lots of varied mobs and characters and just generally an excellent layout.
Loved the spider areas, especially the first time when I got snatched by a black widow. Almost jumped out of my chair.
Really like oleanvir too, especially the rocs I thin laysus saved me three times from those guys

I like Tosha, because it is well populated, and is not tied to any particular organization.
