total lack of venoms

I have one small complaint. Please give venomists a bone, I was to try different strategies but I can't even get anyone to sell me dendroxin.

i'm getting a bit bored of charybdon, and I want to begin testing for reliable sacrifices.

I'm trying to do some research to make an anorexia poison. I've got a whole research report, have collaborated with alchemist, we've developed a whole theory for it that builds off of the "four humors" theory behind the purgatives. It's a bit of fun roleplaying that could lead to other fun roleplaying if it goes anywhere, or even if it doesn't.

OOC the odds of us actually getting a new poison out of it are probably slim to none, and if that was my only reason to do it I wouldn't be doing it. But if we could... that'd be one small step to making it so warriors are competent warriors again.

I think anorexia poison would be fair. It seems a bit strange for it to be a missing option.

Yeah anorexia would be nice.
Terenas2005-02-22 05:50:54
Yeah..what I would really love to see is someone with healing be able to sip anorexia, asthma, slickness and then bedevil to completely shut someone down.

Seriously, venoms suck royally in Lusternia because of resilience and only 50% chance of coming off, if we are able to actually see if the targets have been afflicted, as they do so Imperian, then that would be a lot better, giving us an anorexia venom is worthless at the moment, how hard is it for someone to smoke coltsfoot for cure it?

This venom will be more useful in the hands of non-knights than knights since other classes have passive afflicting abilities.

Quiet you! We want anorexia venom *nudge*
Murphy2005-02-22 06:03:49
Maybe certain venoms should be more afflictable.

IE like shrivelling arms and what not, but chary and paralysis have a smaller chance of afflicting.
celahir2005-02-22 13:16:59
HEH if we had Anorexia then use that, Slickness and Crush Chests, then woot Venom lock. I hate the idea that the nihlists have a lock but the knights dont.
Gwylifar2005-02-22 16:26:51
Well, as I said, I am not really doing this in expectation of getting the poison out of it. And, well, I'm not even really doing this -- it's kind of stalled right now. (OOC, you can't actually put stuff into the alembic that isn't already part of some alchemy, though there's not any clear reason why not, so experimentation is somewhat limited. Even if you could, well, it seems vanishingly unlikely that anything would ever happen.)

The cool thing, though, is that the theory of it fell together so well. Alchemy is essentially arbitrary. I bet if you tried to put together a theory of alchemy that could predict why it takes precisely five of this and six of that to make so-and-so a brew, and have it fit all the brews we have, you'd find it impossible to do. Despite some remarkable work, Rosalind's attempts to make a theoretical concoctions means of curing vampirism in Aetolia were compelling but still arbitrary -- reading her work, one gets the idea that this could work but also that a thousand similar combinations could, too. And that's with a really fantastically good effort.

I expected the same kind of result here, the kind where you have to just suspend disbelief and not point out how many other possibilities are equally convincing. But when we got down to it, the theory fit together so well that the formula we developed seems very compelling. Reading it I feel certain that if there's a way, this is either it, or very close to it. It's hard to explain without showing you, and without you being at least a little familiar with the medieval medicine practice of the four humors.

I just hope there's some way we can make something come of this, even if not the anorexia poison. (But I know the admins/Gods have a thousand other things equally interesting to work on, so I hope they don't take this as me pressuring them. Just being hopeful.)
Gwylifar2005-02-22 16:31:37
On second thought, there's no reason I can't post it.
Sylphas2005-02-22 17:36:45
That's awesome.
Aajen2005-02-22 20:48:32
Why don't you just ask me for poisons when you see me Murphy? It'd take me 3 seconds to go get Dendroxin for you.
Gwylifar2005-02-22 22:43:01
Get him, Aajen. He wanted to give me 12K and I couldn't take it! Someone needs to have his money, and if it can't be me, might as well be you! Go poisonists!
Aajen2005-02-22 23:51:12
Why couldn't you take his money? Because he's Seren enemy?
Alger2005-02-23 02:38:36
yeah gwylifar doesnt sell to us!

you're the only poisonist that actually does aajen you have to stock your shop big time.
Gwylifar2005-02-23 03:55:20
Don't sell to enemies, yep. Unfortunately, no one else buys. Fortunately, I don't depend on the income, because if I did, well.... I'm a poisonist. Duh.
Aajen2005-02-23 04:28:04
Ahhh I remember when Valek and Daevos would go on their killing sprees, then come back and get poisons from me, I gave it to them free half the time, the other half I made a pretty penny... I still suspect Daevos is the one who always buys my entire stock of Charybdon, there's 20 in there now, don't make me go back up to astral for awhile eh?

Also would a blackout venom be useful? I think it would be quite useful, at the very least it would add some strategy to it, just think: a blackout poison, then disloyalty with the other arm, probably get you at least one round of disloyal ents..... even though against trans resilience the chance would be in the range of 10%, which isn't really enough for it to be very useful.
Ceres2005-02-23 07:47:16
Blackout venom would be massively overpowered.

Vapors venom, maybe.

As long as I can bedevil it, I say its fair game smile.gif

I'm a poisonist, and I think that, in its novice stages, Poisons are useless... could we modify the skillset so that novices, and Apprentices have a better chance in the freeforalls. Anyway, when I get more lessons into, I'd be happy to do venoms for people. Enemies or not.

I am Astorath in game.
