*points to the beefy man commect* The beefy man comment sums up everything I left out. In any case, go fight Silvanus, I'm at school, and he's probably in game. He'll chasm, and you swing. If you don't kill him before he chasms, you suck.

Terenas is a very good fighter, but he just does not generate enough damage to kill Silvanus in that time frame. Truthfully, no average knight could accomplish it in time.
In all honesty, chasm has always been the best insta-kill in the game. Its low 3 power cost, fast completion speed, and low possibility of it being interrupted makes it head and shoulders above the others. Throw in illusions, and a person would really be just trying to run in and out of your room. If they wait to determine if what they are seeing is a real attempt or fake, they probably will not have enough time to escape the room before the effect is complete.

I've -never- used a chasm illusion... I swear... honest...
In any case, it's rare that I actually get the chasm off. People always seem to find a way out. Oh, and by the way, there IS an affliction that stops chasm. Not telling you guys what though. Eldanien used it on me in an FFA. Needless to say, he won.

Revan, it is a new age for chasm use in the geomancers. Still, I will find out what affliction Eldanien gave that caused you to stop chasm. You sure it was an affliction, and not something that caused you to move?
Revan2005-02-22 23:19:29
Quite possitive, Geb. In fact, it's an affliction you are able to give as a mage. Look through your skills and think a bit. But do us a favor and don't let anyone else know.
Ceres2005-02-22 23:36:12
Do the right thing, Gebby.

So basically, four guilds aren't toast against Chasm. Then add the super potent damage dealers who can manage to dish out damage fast enough.
Amend that thought. I should find out who gets that affliction automatically, and who gets it as an optional. And who doesn't at all. Very curious.

It's in hexes, then..

Only affliction I know off hand that both Celestines and Magi both gets for stopping chasm is fear, but that is still useless if you are stonewalled in with rubbles blocking all exits.

I feel special, if only for a moment. I know something the big combatants want to know.

Eldanien helped me figure it out, by going over his log. I would have to test it out to make sure, but from what I can tell it does make some sort of roleplay sense.
Shamarah2005-02-23 02:18:37
I think I have an idea as to what it might be, but I want to see this log...
Revan2005-02-23 02:24:50
Mages have it, Nihilists have it, Celestines have it, knights might have a venom for it...
Eldanien2005-02-23 02:31:50
Everyone but warriors have it, or can have it. Stag -might- have it, but I'm not certain. There's no toxin that causes it.
Terenas2005-02-23 02:34:01
Post the log in the combat logs already, Eldanien! *urge urge*
Revan2005-02-23 02:36:00
Let them figure it out for themselves, Eld, just as you figured it out. It'll be interesting to see how many people can figure it out. And yes, I know at -least- Serenguard have it, since Malicia afflicted me with it once.
Veonira2005-02-23 03:39:18
Actually, Tuek tumbled out of a room after the second chasm message. Not sure if I just didn't see him start tumbling, but it seemed like he started pretty late and still got out before I got chasm off.
Revan2005-02-23 03:40:25
It's not Tumble, Veo

You would have to show a log to verify that. Starting a tumble, and actually tumbling out is not an immediate process. A log of the event would give clear verification on whether he started his tumble before or after the second chasm message.
