...nice try, but it's Brother Bear for Ackleberry.
Desdemona2005-02-23 22:50:47
Brother Bear ended up killed by Brother Wolf and His Ethereal Pack and took dominance of Ackleberry as New Great Spirit. Strength lost to Guile and Courage.

Also, there are way more 'forest' spirits than just the 'main' ones (Sun, Moon, Night, Hart, Crow, Bear, Lake). I know of one Serenwilde spirit besides Moon and Hart, and according to Merloch there are a handful of other ones. They aren't as important, but they cannot be discounted.

I agree, but I believe that the 'forest' spirits are much different than the Great Nature Spirits. Not sure of the forest spirit's creation, but if are they same, then perhaps Serenwilde should start honoring them as well.

Either way, Chuchip is a pimp.
Desdemona2005-02-23 23:10:04
I think that the wiccans and druids, of the different communes, adopted as Great Spirits those whom they considered to be most influential to them, and developed most of their rituals around those two spirits. Also, I think that there could be an infinite range of spirits, but aside from probably categorizing the spirits in Order of influence: Great Spirits, and those recognized on Totems, you could assume that many of the other "minor" spirits of the whole pantheon could either be considered less influential to either of the communes (thusly not considered as important to reverence), or those who can actually be of influence simply haven't been perceived by the communes. I for one, am still expecting to discover Brother Hawk, the totem of flight.
Jasper2005-02-23 23:22:04
I wonder if Brother Raven was the Totem of Flight. Because then, it would give Serenwilde more of a reason to hate Glomdoring.
Unknown2005-02-23 23:27:34
I could see a Raven totem giving +1 int.
I'd love to see a skill in the night and/or crow totem specializations grant flight, though. We'd be the only organization with flying warriors (Besides Faeling, Trill, and those with flying mounts).

I would venture to say the other spirits came from OTHER communes, pre-Kethuru. Like, from Miakoda's (sp?) commune. Yanno, that foresty VG.

And all the Moondancers, since we can summon brooms.
Shiri2005-02-24 01:01:37
...Erion, you sure you mean Miakoda? Miakoda is the spirit of the Mother Moonhart in Serenwilde.
Oh, and Quidgyboo? We're not warriors.

He probably meant Kiakoda.
Shiri2005-02-24 01:10:09
OHHH. Okay that makes more sense. Kiakoda, sorry.
Desdemona2005-02-24 01:12:53
I think communes could in the end go adopting/discovering other totem spirits and keep adding to their skills, of course if the Divines consider Totems capable of further expansion. We could have Brother Owl, to help people to pierce through illusions, Brother Coyote to create illusions, Brother Hawk for flight, Brother River to increase Dex.
Though this topic is regarding Ackleberry, I think we've derailed a bit. On topic, I think that Ackleberry can simply reappear into whatever was it's previous geographical location was... I assume near Estalbar. I would really like to see either communes return: Glomdoring/Ackleberry, and Desdemona is a bit of a maverick so she would probably do things that aren't really sanctioned by her guild/commune. So I would be willing to help, of course not join. For Desdemona it's Serenwilde or Serenwilde.

Just because something is a totem doesn't mean it needs a nature spirit representing it. I'm pretty sure there is no squirrel spirit, for example. You're just drawing from the strength of the squirrels in general, or something.
Anyway, as for Ackleberry returning, I assume it won't be for (Real-life time) years. First the Glomdoring has to get established, then the two cities, and throw in all of the things sure to happen before and between those events and you're in for a long haul. Getting things ready is fine, I suppose, but start anything now and everyone will be burned out and bored long before the wait is half over.

I am not sure why, but seeing how Totems are entirely SPIRITBOND/SPIRIT RELEASE, and that with every creature you bond you feel either the spirit of said creature provide you with powers, take possession of you for a moment giving you new attributes. So, I'm pretty sure that every totem creature has a complete connection with a creature and creatures' spirit. In fact, the last Totem the all encompassing Nature allows you to bond with every spirits of nature (including squirrels ).
Regarding Ackleberry, I agree with you it may take years before the Divines decide to return any of the missing things. Also, any of this happenings will take many events so it will probably be a slow process of reintroduction. But I'm 100% sure you talk out of experience, being a DoC...
Edit: Another totem: Brother Turtle, bestows you protection against cutting and ups your constitution at expense of balance recovery.

I rather like how most of the totems give you nifty little abilities, rather than just raw statistical boosts like that turtle one you suggested.
Shiri2005-02-24 16:18:40
And Desdemona, despite my comments made when I was all inexperienced and stuff, the totem powers we have are great. It might be COOL if we got a Brother Owl, but there's no point from a balance perspective.
Desdemona2005-02-24 21:35:13
Of course totems is great. In fact, it's my favorite skill. But are you going to tell me that Totems isn't simply begging to be expanded?
Totem+Stag, make Serenguards/Druids spiffy.

Yes, I am going to tell you that totems isn't simply begging to be expanded.
Gwylifar2005-02-25 02:06:45
Maybe Moondancers and Hartstone don't need Totems expanded because the things it should let you do, you can do another way. But if you got a second way to fly, would that be so bad? I have about four ways to parry and two ways to sprint, so we'd be even.
