Some of us like village influencing, some of us do not, since people feel like they're being forced to do it or their city will not get any comms/power.
So I had an idea, why not have "minor villages" that give greatly decreased amounts of power and commodities and do not call for help over CT when attacked, and turn over at a faster rate? Then those of us who actually like doing it can do it while the really important villages will continue in their near state of stasis as they are now.
Another idea along that road is to have the minor villages be claimable by clans. The Lucidian Compound (Letztes Bataillon?), Spectre Isle, Glomdoring, to cite some examples and more could be made. That would make running clans much more fun.

Interesting idea... I would be for more villages, but not nescesarily minor vilalges...
Make each village worth less, but add more in. T'would be cool.

Well, the problem as I see it is some people like the village influencing and some don't, but it's not acceptable to a leadership to just ignore a village when it's spamming their CT. Making minor villages that don't go over the CT or are claimed by clans would solve both issues in a way that just adding more villages and making them worth less wouldn't.
Daganev2005-02-25 04:03:40
Aye, I like the idea.. kinda. If the village was worth a noticable amount the cities would be doing them nonstop.
But you would need A LOT more villages. Probabbly 20 villages total to make it balanced, fun, rpable, and each village would have to tithe maybe, 1/50th of what they tithe now. Although if you did a clan? where would hte power and comms go?

The ruling clan would get small amounts of gold deposited into their clan bank account every now and then?
Daganev2005-02-25 04:13:31
that works! Minor villages are villages without obelisks. They just swear feality to the clan or city that influences them to follow them. Thus they deposit a tithe of thier gold earnings to a bankaccount. Clan or city.
The one small problem is that currently influence is based on skills you get from your city based on cityrank. Doing skills for clans would be impossible... and clans don't have ranks.

But, if a city wanted one of those villages, they'd have no problems squashing a little clan. I don't think any clan can really rival the resources and manpower of a city.
Richter2005-02-25 05:25:07
So make them not open to city influence.
Daganev2005-02-25 08:55:24
The point would be that the villages would not be worth the time for a city. It would not give enough gold, and it would be too much of a hassle.

definately make spectre isle a village or an influencable place of some kind, meaning people can defend spectres rather then getting cursed repeatedly for defending there ancestors
Daganev2005-02-25 10:21:39
Defending ancestors?
When you kill spectres you are doing them a favour as they are cursed to stay on that island. That is why Marywheater Sings that song and sends them away.

Cities could have a policy (ooc mechanic) that the minor villages, offering no commodities or power and just a meager amount of gold, aren't worth the resources to take control of.
I think it would take clan stuff to a whole new level, woohoo.

up with super clans! but wait isnt there a limit on the amount of clans one person can have...more problems
Shiri2005-02-25 17:50:40
As a note on the clan thing - I too feel that would be a good idea, but I posted a similar idea a while back and Auseklis said it'd never happen. The mechanics were a little different to yours if I remember correctly, but it's similar.
Richter2005-02-25 18:27:47
The clan max is ten, 25 credits lets you have more.

A limit to the number of clans someone can join doesn't seem relevant to me. It's already like 11 or something right?
There's a small minority of players who really like the village influencing, while most only like it in small doses. If we get a little petition going I'm sure we could see this some day.
Dibs on the Lucidian Compound!

Nice idea, would be perfect for clan wars.
Shiri2005-02-25 19:16:41
Which is the reason it was put down by Auseklis pretty soon after I suggested it, they're used as bashing areas an' stuff.

Clan wars: clans/families/tribes seeking dominance over a terrain, trying to overpower another clan for dominance of another terrain, clans seeking expansion, people from certain clans engaging on battle in a battlefield, clans seeking consul over a government to act as "jury" upon village quarrels. Clan wars is lots of fun. The bad thing is, that if you aren't member of a big clan and try to join, your are whacked... and village benefits, if the villages are multiple may be things you'd want to get.
Edit: Let's say that there are 10 villages, each providing a tithe of at very least 10k gold (maybe I'm exagerating), a clan manages to control 5 that means 50k gold... that is a pretty good amount of gold. So, there will be multiple folks wanting to get a share of this bounty, but what if they aren't members of a clan/don't want to join a clan? Also, this clan wars could probably take away the attention of city related events, which could be good: relaxes people on intervening something they wanted to do so in the first place.
Edit: Also, this accompanied with forging could be another step to a Lusternian heraldic period... and those who wish to be mercenary-like will actually be able to do so. A band of 5 Taurian for hire goes to work for the Merfthers, and another band of maverick Taurians act as raiders of another clan for just the raid at a price.

Kind of an iffy idea. See, as Celest, we can't just get a village and then forget about it. If we know that denizens are getting murdered, it becomes our duty to go protect them (in most cases).
