QUOTE(Elryn)
I wonder if one of the Divine could settle this matter once and for all?  Are the histories a little poorly written, or is it instead the events post?

QUOTE(Estarra)
I don't know. Only one way to find out.... waggle.gif

So... it's the events posts? quickexit.gif

I just couldn't resist, *wail* zap.gif

You can climb the trees and it says "Forest" in survey on celestia?
Elryn2005-02-28 12:23:23
Let me show you:
QUOTE
The Valley of Blissful Rapture.
At the base of the valley, the canopies of the forest climb high overhead,
sheltering all who walk beneath it. A swift brook snakes through the valley
floor, its banks blooming with vibrant wildflowers. The valley exudes an
amazing feeling of comfort, the air within full of cool moisture. All along its
floor, many varieties of soft lichens grow, squishing under foot. Huge leaves
grow on the numerous bushes throughout the area, pools of dew collecting on
each of them. The rainforest valley continues deeper to the northeast and to
the northwest, spidery vines hanging from the canopy above in either direction.
A beautific cherub flitters in the air, giggling with delight.

I believe it surveys as being in Celestia, surprisingly.
Daganev2005-02-28 12:28:38
I don't find it surprising.

Do you reall think that on the Astral plane you are fighting in a giant Iron pan? Or could it be that the Non physical planes play with your senses to give you images that are most fitting to the mood and emotion of the plane?

If you make your aethermanse a forest, its not really a forest, it just looks like one.

So unless you can do Nature attacks in that room, I have a hard time seeing it as being a "bonified forest"

Oh no, its really a forest... it is, I swear. I love my forest. cloud9.gif

Edit: And look, if arguments for Celestia being anti-Nature have to be based on pure game mechanics without any philosophy/roleplay... are they really that convincing?
"Its not a forest until that flag gets set, damn it! I can't TOUCH or PUNCH it... so it doesn't exist!!!"

Edit edit: Also, if my senses are being tricked to see something I think is beautiful (ie, forest), why does everyone else see the same thing? huh.gif

Edit edit edit: (At least its my own post! Don't kill me! unsure.gif) And you haven't explained what Nature is when it doesn't have anything to do with Life.
Drago2005-02-28 12:49:37
Is an illusionary forest still a real forest?
Elryn2005-02-28 12:50:28
If its just an illusion, no.

Hmm, was that directed at me? I'm not so sure now...
Gwylifar2005-02-28 16:47:06
Someone has to say it.

If a tree falls in an illusionary forest, does it make a sound?
Ixion2005-02-28 17:03:27
*thwap Gwylifar*

Gwylifar: You should sell venoms to Seren enemies as well. All we do is get a non-enemy to buy from you- merely an inconvenience.

I have totally lost track of this thread.

Why spare you that inconvenience? smile.gif

Elryn, just as a sidenote, I'd disagree that Manse forests are true forests, not on the basis of game mechanics, but because it's essentially a fabricated forest made out of imagination and...aether...stuff. I see it as sort of the same as mages in the Earthsea quartet (I hope you read that, or I will make no sense) who can make food, who can make food look, taste, smell and stuff like food, can even make it feel filling to the body, but who can't ACTUALLY make said food nourish you, 'cause it's not REALLY food, just magic.

Come on Ceres, no way did you read a book with over 50 pages and no pictures. You're just going along with Estarra.

See what the author has to say in this article by Ursula K. Le Guin.
Amaru2005-02-28 19:22:19
Oh, my mistake. I didn't realise it was made into a TV series.... I don't watch the 'Sci Fi Channel' *cough*. The books were amazing.
Malicia2005-02-28 19:25:20
Oh this is definitely a hijack, but as I don't even remember what this thread was about, I want to comment on that article Estarra was so nice to put up.

QUOTE
But I had endless trouble with cover art. Not on the great cover of the first edition—a strong, red-brown profile of Ged—or with Margaret Chodos Irvine's four fine paintings on the Atheneum hardcover set, but all too often. The first British Wizard was this pallid, droopy, lily-like guy—I screamed at sight of him.

Hilarious biggrin.gif

I wonder what L Ron Hubbard had to say about the way the movie 'Battlefield Earth' utterly destroyed his book. Battlefield Earth was one of the best books I've ever read.

I'm am now ending the hijack.
