Anyway, are you basically saying that it is just carelessness that I died, and Faelings should just remove themselves from most of the game?

I just read this
No what I'm saying is that you got jumped, you a faeling which is one of the most vulnerable races got jumped. Because you got jump and were easy target you died. Of course, a big number of non-faeling people would've also died to Murphy if we were jumped by him.
So, if you want to view yourself as being careless for not having rebounding up, not sticking to flying when it is a good thing to do, you can do so. But it isn't necessarily careless, just too much security. I doubt you expected being jumped, or else you might've been able to escape.
Also, I think that the faelings, as I've previously stated, can't be too bullheaded at fighting/bashing. Faelings need to avoid fighting alone if possible, if not, I suggest always trying to be reading to flee, and keep distance. Also, perhaps a Hartsone like yourself would have more chances of slowing someone, as an support unit, with your demesne. For bashing, I also suggest to have your health in mind at all times, forest two rooms, shield whenever possible, and attack. This of course, if you wish to bash, but I believe Faelings would do better in Influencing.
Personally, if you can afford it, anyone who wishes to travel abroad must have defences up, so if you can keep an aura of rebounding up do so. Also, the advantage of flight is that you may have great chances of flying over many areas without being detected. So, I would suggest you to fly more frequently whenever it is possible for you to do so.

In beta I was a Faeling near the entire time until I became Tae'dae and got them changed from being godly. As a Faeling at first I would die (lvl 64 I believe) as Laysus pointed out in 4 swings from a knight who was half my level. Most people in beta where around level 30-35 it seemed. I reported this and was told that Dexterity was supposed to assist in dealing with knights hitting you. Eventually they changed it and Roark fixed Dexterity, after that I would avoid most swings and take on average about 200 less damage from hits, which helped a great deal. The only thing I can think of is Dexterity became broken again if you are dieing so fast now.
Hehe, wanna know what overpowered is? As a Tae'dae I sat at the Mother Tree with two gods using Haymakers on me for about 36 swings (maybe was more, to much spam to count), with me having no stance or armour on and I stayed in green health just sipping every few seconds. That's how Tae'dae used to be, and without the huge eq/balance recoverys

What were the stats of the Tae'dae in Beta? I remember reading somewhere that they also had health regen.
Most importantly, were Taurians better in Beta?

They had level 3 health regen, level 3 cutting and blunt resistance and I believe level 3 magic resist also. They were pure tanks with like level 1 or 2 slower balance recovery and level 3 negative experience gain.
Here we go..this is their stats right before Beta ended, they had been changed to this. I believe they didn't have such large negatives at the time, like I don't think there was a eq negative, but even like this they were godly still:
