This is utterly retarded. This reminds me of the Brady Bunch movie where as the end, the dude says "Butt" and everyone freaks out. This censoring "Crap" stuff is nothing more than an abuse of power.

Im english and crap has never been considered a swear word here. I suppose you could say it was vulgar, but it is not a swear word and should not be moderated.

Well, maybe not all Priests. But some do. As for the rest... teachers use stronger words than
Shiri2005-02-27 18:23:34
True enough, I suppose. One of our priests was a pilot in the Gulf War...(I think...I might be confused? ), as I lived on an RAF base with my parents, so obviously standards aren't absolute there.

I honestly thought you were talking about another C- word And I was like... Silvanus is so stupid.
Faethan2005-02-27 19:26:44
This is perhaps the worst job of moderating I have ever seen on any forums. The divine need to find a new moderator who can understand what is and is not an accetpable word.
Silvanus2005-02-27 19:30:20
Can someone Unedit this poll and uncensor the word crap? I have people thinking it was co- and cu-. Which are actually a little offensive to some people.
Shiri2005-02-27 19:36:27
Ah-HAH! So it's swearing if YOU say it is, but not if someone ELSE says it is. I got it. Anyway, edited.
Silvanus2005-02-27 19:37:58
I never said crap wasn't a swear, I said the other two might be offensive. Read Shiri read! Now, actually change it to crap.
Shiri2005-02-27 19:41:34
Uh...I did read it. I didn't base the statement entirely on yours and forget -every other- statement you've made, I took the whole lot into account.
Silvanus2005-02-27 19:43:18
That makes little to no sense.
Since you agreed to never censor out the word crap again, then uncensor this poll.

The fact that you have to ask frightens me. I quote:
"Some Men Are Born To Greatness
The word "crap," meaning excrement, is from the Old French, via Middle English, "crappe," which stood for the grain that was trodden underfoot in a barn.
Thomas Crapper did exist and he did improve, but not invent the flush toilet. He was an Englishman, 1837-1910, who invented the ball and suction device (British Patent # 4,990) found in modern toilets that allows an efficient flush with a minimum of water and also shuts off the flow to the tank once refilled. Toilets manufactured by his company bore the name "Crapper" prominently on them. This was a case where a fortuitously named man made a contribution, not a case of an eponym. The OED2 traces its use at least to 1846, in the phrase "crapping ken" meaning a water closet. Since Crapper did not start his company until 1861, it is obviously not the origin of the word.
In 1971, two years after writing an accurate book about Crapper, author Wallace Reyburn wrote "Bust Up: The Uplifting Tale of Otto Titzling and the Development of the Bra." This second book was a complete hoax. Titzling never existed.
Debunked: The word "crap" is an eponym for Thomas Crapper, the inventor of the flush toilet.
Debunked: Otto Titzling invented the brassiere."

The fact that you are censoring out the word crap fightens me even more.
Shiri2005-02-27 19:58:13
The fact that the whole thing is actually in dispute frightens me too. EVEN IF cr- wasn't a swear word, if someone censored one word of mine that was found offensive in a different country, I wouldn't complain. I guess that's just me though. Free speech is more important to some people than courtesy. Oh well. To each his own. But as it IS a swear word, I've censored it up 'till now.
