Mentors

I believe that since the guild is no longer in control of getting novices out of novicehood that it has downplayed the mentor role in this realm.

I was thinking that there should be more benefit to novices who to give them more motivation to seek out mentors.

I know I know.. the benefit is that they get the mentors time and information, but I just reflect on what I remember as a protege in other realms. My mentors didn't seem to have time for me if I wasn't buying credits.

What I propose are skills the mentor has that work for their novice proteges until a certain level.

Skills can include
Being able to diagnose your protégé
Being able to sense your protégé anywhere in the realms
Being able to switch places with your protégé if they are in danger.
Your protégé can teleport to you from anywhere
Your protégé regenerates mana in your presence
You can title your protégé

Maybe even some type of skillset called Lectures

MENTORE: Lecture noobienoob on health

PROTEGE: Your caring mentor lectures you on the many different ways to regain your health . He tells you about health potions, certain skills and even enchantments that will aid in keeping you alive.

PROTEGE: Your health begins regenerating due to your excellent understanding on ways to regain your health.

MENTOR: Lecture noobienoob on mana

etc

MENTORE: Lecture noobienoob on swimming

PROTEGE: You find yourself taking less damage when swimming

MENTOR: Lecture noobieboob in influence

Just an idea. Like I said before. These things could only work for the protégé until they reach a certain level.

Sounds neat. I like.

Yeah biggrin.gif

ICly though... lectures? blink.gif zzzZZ quickexit.gif

Could even have a level 1 / level 2 thing, according to how much attention they pay.
silimaur2005-03-01 13:35:02
im finnally able to be a mentor but there is no one to mentor! add new skills to make the novices love me

When you influence things, they do not fall asleep now do they? That is lectures of a sort, are they not?

And also, I think it would be an awesome idea to have actually something for mentors to do. Because novices also ask less questions to the mentor usually asking the Guild entire, isn't that the role that the mentor plays? The teacher?

Sounds like some neat ideas.

How about if you also include an MT channel? Mentor tells. Where the mentor can talk to all their proteges in a single tell system and um... the proteges being able to use the PT protege tells. tongue.gif

I thought of some more features before I went to bed last night. Newbies with mentors up to a certain level can gain a little more Karma. (after a lecture from their mentor)

Perhaps lose a little bit less experience when they die. (after a lecture from their mentor)

Hey, there's an idea. If you take too long to influence a mob, they'll get bored and and fall asleep, thereby ending the session. biggrin.gif

Let alone lectures of a sort, the first Seren village influence IS lectures.
silimaur2005-03-02 09:39:22
we arent talking about influencing our novices, and who would get boared of a lecture thats upgrading them
celahir2005-03-02 09:49:06
To tie this in with Karma why dont you make it so if you lecture the novice enough he gets a blessing without the Karma cost?

Plus RAISE THE CREDIT benefits!!
I'm not able to be a mentor yet but still I think it's too low.
silimaur2005-03-02 09:52:06
if all you think about is credits you shouldnt be a mentor

Think IC. All these lectures I attend in and out of school are supposedly upgrading (educating) me, but sure doesn't keep me from getting bored... or even falling asleep if it's really bad and I hadn't slept much the night before *shifty*
Aebrin2005-03-03 10:32:34
Make the lectures last, say, a day (1 hour). So basically if you don't keep refreshing your knowledge, you lose the fervour and forget most of it.

You can't make those effects permy.

More of interaction with other guildmates I think. Half the mentors aren't around most of the time when their proteges are.
Daganev2005-03-03 11:17:45
I find that being a mentor rarely takes up more than 3 days of conversation with the person, and if you get some kind of bond then you become friends and thats fun to RP and all dat shizzle.

No need to up the credit bonus or make any other changes. Although some of those things would be cool to both give bonuses and reduce repetition of the most basic concepts.

Guides get less credits per newbie they help than Mentors.
Summer2005-03-03 11:38:24
*ponder* They get more than an unlucky mentor like I used to be anyway. Of the hundreds of newbies I've helped (including those I didn't mentor too), I only got 20 (maybe 10) creds, which is only 4 hours of guiding.
Rhysus2005-03-03 14:24:00
How about a bonus to the experience gained by players under level 30 if they are following their mentor when he or she is hunting?
Ialie2005-07-24 19:57:33
I just want to bump this because I still believe there should be something that helps facilitate a closer bond between mentor and protege.

Why would they regen mana? Other than that one, I like the idea of adding these to a mentor/protege. Half the time as a Knight mentor, i'm being asked to help my protege cure something, and sometimes they don't have diagnose yet, so I have ot play guessing games with them until we figure it out.

This lecture thing, while sounding cool, i think would be too much. Novices really need to learn to do things on their own and use the stuff we have. They can all level up pretty fast as it is, they don't really need these things. I know from experience, that dying alot as a novice is a GREAT learning tool. You will remember more from a death/near death than you will from someone just telling you how to do stuff.
