Yes. It's sad. I take part in the SCA, or society for creative anachranisms. The medieval reenactment society. Its fun. I make Maille (chain mail to the untrained ear, but I must inform you, saying 'chain mail' is like saying 'shiny bright'.)
Anyway, my friends and I make it. Kristian is in the, yes, purple shirt. Wizards of the Coast staff shirt.

With you doing this kind of thing, I think the most amazing aspect of those pictures was that it -looked- like there was a woman in the first picture.
Never let her go! You'll thank me someday!
Now go back to playing D&D kiddies. *sagenod*

What's a woman?
EDIT: resolve to the fact that being a nerd is much easier if you're gay.

I agree Laneth, but I'm not gay, and that's not a female . That's my best MALE friend Kristian Brevik... actually, no he isn't my best friend, he's kinda mean.. he wanted to put biofreeze in my running shorts and then putting viagra and ex in my sports drink before my cross country run.

can you say ouch?
Soll2005-03-01 16:56:39
Ouch.

There is a woman... she's wearing a pink shirt. Are you telling me that's not a woman? I'm pretty good at spotting these.
here's my question... whos the person in the second picture with the black fingernails and spiked/studded bracers?

I think you need glasses. Would turn out to be so funny if I were the one who's wrong though.
Same person as the one to the right of the wo/man in the purple shirt in the first picture.

A good friend of mine is into SCA.. he does the whole deal, makes weapons from rattan wood, makes his own chain mail and plate, and goes out into the melees and gets all beat up.. if you are interested in this sort of thing (its not LARP, you can actually get hurt and there are no RPG rules and such) there are local chapters in almost every major city in the US.. not so sure about other countries though.

It's pretty wide spread. Though I've heard its really looked down upon by the British. They think we are 'making fun of them'. I've done the Feast or Famine war. It was fun but really, really scary.
Trust me, having 400 500 pound men with large sticks and huge armor standing usually around 6'7 tall, come running towards you screaming in either a really low bass voice, or a really high squeaky voice? Ya, it scared the cr*p out of me too.
Hehe I was out in the first 15 minutes, but the night before is really funny. If the fighters dont go to bed soon enough they get completly wasted, and end up running into a tree.. more on that later.

Well tell him he dresses gay-like *nod*.

I can no longer see the first two pictures, but I know there was a woman, halfway cut off, on the far right-hand side.
Unknown2005-03-02 01:26:39
That's true Richter.

You mean, they're right? *goes change her glasses*

Anyone have any suggestions for someone just starting out in the SCA?
And I would greatly appreciate any ideas on where to get garb, haven't been able to find anything reasonable to wear to a feast. -flop- Only thing I haven't tried is talking to another SCA member who can make me some, but then again I don't know any SCA members. >_<

My fiance is into that kinda stuff. A different organization, though. He once asked me to come with him and be his wench, but he ended up joining the Navy instead.
