Back to The Real World.

I used to get food from there, occasionally, but Supersize Me did kinda.. y'know.. make me fear recieving irrevocable damage to my insides.

Anyhoo, it could never match up to the archtype of foodstuffs, and the only thing you can eat out with pride.. Fish and chips!

I would advise that Soll smile.gif. Ohhh Fain agrees with me! Yay!

Oh, and thought you guys would be interested in this:

A high school freshman went out and bought a supersized fry at mcdonalds, and the same amount from a local, organic resturant. He put them in separate jars, with lids. The lids both had holes in the top. He let them sit in the shade inside for one month. These were the results:

Organic fries had completly broken down and rotted.
McDonalds fries had one mold spot, otherwise they looked just as new as ever, and smelled good as well.

Yay for preservatives. *pukes*

McDonalds, preserving human bodies longer one cadaver at a time.

The problem I have with McDonalds is the quality of the food compared to the price. You can go elsewhere for corporate food, get healthier, fresher and tastier food for about the same price. There's Subway, and if you want grunge you can always go to Taco Bell, at least their food has flavor.

After seeing this movie, I have not returned to eat at a Mcdonalds.. anywhere.
I am trying my best to continue to do so. I definitely recommend it to anyone who hasnt seen it.

I have seen it and I still eat McDonalds. A number eleven supersize is four dollars. Where can I get a meal for four dollars that makes me full. The cheapest thing at taco bell is the three soft tacos meal and that isnt very filling. (I dont eat lettuce or other leaves so there isnt much to a soft taco)

If you go to some fancy french restuarnt that costs $200 a plate for every meal the same thing would happen.

You pay $200 for a meal, you can ask the chef where every ingredient came from, how fresh the ingredients are, how much salt is in it, because for $200 a meal, the chef better be bloody good or the restaurant won't last long.

You go into Maccy D's, spend $1.99 on more salt, modified starch, antibiotic stuffed monster chicken gonads and minced skin than you can eat, and ask them what they could possibly put into their food for that price AND STILL MAKE A PROFIT.

MacDonalds tastes good and it's really convenient but it's not food.

Drago2005-03-01 23:20:22
Supersize me: Any idiot who eats McDonalds three times a day, and supersizes his order (which we don't have in Australia, sucks to be you) whenever asked if he wants to, deserves to die.

Buy the Salads, the chicken foldovers and the crispy chicken focacias. They're "real" (as you put it).
Drago2005-03-01 23:22:51
Oh, and I can tell you what's in the food, just not exactly where it came from (everything except the orange juice which is, for some strange reason, from brazil, is australian made in australian mcdonalds "restraunts")

Processed chicken can include eyes, skin, bone marrow and an assortment of antibiotics retained from it's sorry life living in it's neighbour's faeces. To turn it into meat, it is minced, slurried with water and then corn starch, salt and beef fat are added to make it taste like chicken. The slurry is then pumped into trays where it is vacuum dehydrated to give it a meat-like texture. The actual chicken meat percentage is in single figures but it is sold as chicken.

I can't speak for Australian MacDonalds but I know what goes into stuff over here and it is not food. Food costs more.

Drago2005-03-01 23:56:58
Then you don't know what you're talking about.

The Crispy chicken is -real breast meat chicken-. You know when you have roast chicken and you can pull the meat into shreds? You can do that to the chicken on a crispy focacia.

The McChicken burger I'd say don't eat it, because they're disgusting.

The filet o' fish is 100% hoki filet.

The beef patties are 100% minced beef.

The nuggets are 100% breast meat.

The fries are 100% potato. (I don't add salt)

*wonders if she really wants to read anymore*

Comparing food prices with McDonalds prices here, I'd say that they could still make a pretty healthy profit with using real food. (Which is not to say that they are)

*points you to his post*

If you're so worried about McDonalds, try their salads. They're the best salads i've eaten that I haven't made myself.
Summer2005-03-02 00:06:52
There aren't any salads that I know of in Singapore's McDonalds.

Ok I have to step in here. Go to a half-decent cafe and order a salad. Maccas salad, while being actual garden thingos, does not compare to a nice ceasar or a rocket salad with balsamic.
Unknown2005-03-02 00:30:18
Agreed Laneth. And Drago, the McD's over there are different.... trust me I researched this stuff for 3 years. The meat here, yes, is 100 percent meat. It's NOT 100 percent beef. The chicken nuggets in the USA are NOT 100 percent chicken. It's hardly 15 percent chicken. They get such a big profit off of it because they have so much NON chicken in it, but sell it as chicken, at chicken price. Yes the chicken that is in it IS real chicken, but its got loads and loads of chemicals. From the fry thing I told you guys, doesn't that blatantly point out that there are preservatives in the fries?

The guy who did Supersize me was not an idiot. He was doing a scientific experiment to find out if someone could survive on McDonalds for a month. His point was that people can live on say organic macaroni and cheese for a month, but they can't live on McD's for a month without damaging their body.

Granted, the McD's where you are, are higher quality, but realize the food is crap here.

And as a side note, there are only 5 things in McD's that don't have any sugar in them.

Hash Browns
Iced Tea
Diet Coke
Sausage Patties
Fries

Yes. That means the salads have sugar in them. Lots of sugar. Out of McDonalds food, the salad has fourth most, only to the ice cream, applie pies and cookies.

Fries got a way too generous helping of salt over here. And is your ice tea different from ours? Ice Lemon Tea? The ones here got a ton of sugar in it too.

I could have told you that. Anyone that thinks McDonalds is for regular consumption really needs a lobotomy.

I'm not sure you people are aware as to how nasty mass produced food is. Any resturaunt you go to is going to have the same nasty side affects as McDonalds, just with different chemical names and differnt nutirtion facts. Sure Subway might be better than McDonalds but its still bad, as is any resturaunt if you go to the same place 3 times a day.

I have not done any studies on this... but I have myself gone to restuaunts untill I no longer enjoy them. You get sick and fat anywhere you go no matter how much your paying or what Grade the resturant gets or how good the reputation is.

My favorite was when this guy I was with went to fatburger or something, sat down, took a bite and exclaimed in Horror... "My god! This isn't Horse meat!?!? Where my horsemeat!?" Apparently he could taste the differece.
Silvanus2005-03-02 01:35:37
I'm going to agree with anyone who said to watch "Supersize me," I haven't gone to any fast food place, except to get milkshakes (best things in the world), since watching that movie.
Unknown2005-03-02 01:38:37
If milkshake is the thing that reminds me of melted icecream, I like that too. However, fast food is junk food and I don't trust it enough to eat it. (I've seen "Supersize me" too, the movie was damn convincing)
Then again, you can't be sure that the products you buy at your local store are what they seem to be too.
