Rubbish. Dogs are better.
Cats strut around, jumping into your lap without permission, and pricking your thighs with their evil claws, smell, dismember animals and bring them into the house, and do whatever they feel like doing.
Dogs both have and give a brilliant calmness, are obedient, loyal and generally nice, and who doesn't like the sound of a good bark? Cats make dreadful sounds.

Dogs bark all night, disturbing absolutely everyone within a 5 mile radius (or at least it seems that way. Many dogs in our neighbourhood ), whereas cats only meow when they want something, or to say hello. And it only annoys the people closest to them, at the very most.
Cats smell? Cats smell? Says the person who likes dogs? Cats are just about the cleanest animals there are, and you don't even have to bathe them to get them that way...
Do dogs ever bring their owners presents to show their affection? While most of us might not like the form those presents take, it's the thought that counts .

Tigers, lions and stuff, Terenas? Anyway, yeah, those are rare cases, but you could bet that if cats COULD do that, they would.

That's like comparing dogs with wolves
Shiri2005-03-05 14:13:50
And wolves are better than...panthers etc. QED. And Drago, what? That's a reason DOGS are better. They, like, DO stuff. (And Shoshana - you've obviously not heard cats when they're...er...having fun with each other...yeah, THAT keeps people awake more than any dog.) And dogs do bring things. My dog likes to try and hunt hedgehogs and bring them (unharmed!) to my dad. And she does it with frogs, too. She doesn't injure them -at all- but they all die of heart attacks.
Ialie2005-03-05 14:16:47
I have never heard of people dying to a pack of feral domisticated cats, but a pack of pit bulls.. yeah..

Cats
Malicia2005-03-05 14:22:45
Cats clean themselves, use a litter box, and are simply beautiful.
Dogs require too much work.
I voted for cats.

I vote cats, even though mine is a lap whore. She doesn't even ask, damn it! She just jumps up on me...
Shiri2005-03-05 14:30:38
Yeah, dogs are a lot more work than cats, but they're worth it. Dogs can WORK. My dog earns my dad £30 a day, which is more than what she costs to upkeep. What do cats do? NOTHING!
Ialie2005-03-05 14:31:46

Pet therapy! Cats work just as well as dogs.
Unknown2005-03-05 14:32:57
Cats are fun to play fight though. I'd be afraid to get a dog excited.. might end up adopting children afterall.
Unknown2005-03-05 14:32:58
I wan't a cat so badly, does anyone want to trade for a dog that snores alot?
Shiri2005-03-05 14:55:23
Dogs work just as well as cats for pet therapy though. (If not better because they actually respond. Like when I'm upset my dog know, and she comes and gives me a cuddle until I'm okay again. ) And KidHendrix: Maybe, but not if you got a really small one. Big ones, maybe...

I've heard a theory that dogs are an animal representation of communism (loyal, almost too obedient but not very bright), while cats are a represantation of capitalism (they do what they want and can be VERY selfish). Makes sense for me.
As for me, I vote for tortoises (did I spell that correctly?).

Tortoises is right. But THEY ARE NOT AN OPTION.
Unknown2005-03-05 15:35:10
That's the whole point.

The reason why a pack of feral cats don't kill anyone... is because they can't. On the other hand, dogs, they still have the proper equipment to be aggressive hunters. And in the event of that pack being a proper street pack, you will see dogs reverting to their social ability to function as a group, and endevour on scavenging or hunting.
Also, you would probably need a team of 15,000 cats to pull a sled. They are weak.
Regarding cats as subjects of divinity. Don't forget about anubis, cerberus, and that the dog was immortalized with it's own constellation.
The reason that the are a myriad ofdog breeds is thanks to the dog's immense capacity to adapt, and simply prove that it is useful for an myriad of different tasks, too. Why? Because dogs have the ability to learn understanding of emotion, body language and even verbal language, making dogs more than apt for whatever tasks they are breeded.
In many instances, you should ask yourself... who has domesticated whom? You or the dog?
One book I recommend to see how closely knit can a dog and human become is "Where the Red Fern Grows"

A dog not only keeps the upstairs neighbor's mice away but it also keeps the downtown burglers away.
And cats are more likely to attack a small child than a dog. Something about attention jealousy, though I suspect it has more to do with the baby getting more food and goods.
Desdemona2005-03-05 19:41:14
Dogs can also be jealous, but not necessarily aggressive. A dog being highly sociable, will accept a human as part of it's "pack" and may in many instances may want to have role of the dominating member of said pack... which may make him more successful with small children. Aside of that, soon the dog learns to assimilate humans and become perfect match as companions. Mutual assimilation, I think would be better said.
Dogs have an infinite uses: guard dogs, hunting dogs, sport dogs, tracking dogs, K-9 cops, military personal, detection dogs (those used to detect drugs and other susbtances thanks to their keen sense of smell), companions, etc.
Let a cat keep someone's mice at bay... that is just one of their limited uses.
Edit: More uses for dogs: herding dogs, rescue mission dogs.... as for cats, everything sums up to "pest" control.
