I just recently explored Celestia, and then realized I was trapped in there... which got me thinking. Why can't I go back to Elemental using the Nexus? Why is the Nexus skill so crucial?
Then I came up with the idea of a new skill to be able to use the Nexus unidirectionally. Meaning a skill that allows perfect exit from Astral to Cosmic to Elemental to Prime using either nexus of power, but never in the inverse.
I call this skill:
NEXUS LITE:
Syntax: TRANSVERSE NEXUS LITE.
Cost: 555 Mana
(Alternate Cost: 5)
With Nexus LITE you can now use the Nexus of power of the different cities to exit a plane.
Okay, that is the idea... Fortunately I managed to escape Celestia thanks to the courtesy of Vesar.
Of course... in the end I could always hitch-hike, but I think this ability would be helpful. Also, this ability could be obtained until after Teleport, almost Master Planar?

I don't think this is a good idea, as it is not the nexus that enables the person to transverse specially, but the person. It is the Aquamancers special capability with elemental magic that allows them to use the Pool to access Water, not the Pool itself.
EDIT: Special capability with water elemental magic I should say.

Mages have the ability to portal to their respective Elemental plane, yes, Guardians have the same ability to portal to their respective Cosmic plane.
My skill idea was an alternative for almost trans NEXUS planar ability:
Nexus Mastery of all nexus gates, whatever your affiliation.
This skill allows you to use any NEXUS of power to transverse to a plane, from Cosmic to Elemental, and from Elemental to cosmic... even if you aren't affiliated to either city (Megalith for Magnagora and Pool of Stars for Celest)
So, Nexus Lite would basically be unidirectional. Allowing a person to exit without problem a plane using the Nexus, but never to enter. Good skill for those who are left behind in a Cosmic plane, for instance.

Abusable. Say Celestia or Nil is raided, and the team is victorious on the plane. They could then Nexus lite into the city, and if they were strong enough, slay the guards. Thus, they would control the Nexus and would have a grip on the city. Although I suppose not a lot would come of that. Killing of all guards + Ardrak/Meleris having bypassed the cities outer defences could be quite useful though.

I could use the Pool of Stars.
2837h, 3722m, 2306e, 10p, 13085en, 17510w ex-ab planar nexus
You can use planar gates at any nexus, even if you are not affiliated with that
nexus.

I think making it an easy skill to obtain would make it overly abusable. Having the potential to do it isn't too bad, but making it easily achieved would suck.

Eh, as things are, I think that people with NEXUS can use the Pool of Stars/Megalith to go to Nil/Celestia, how do you think they raid in the first place or even go to Cosmic? Also... I think that they could also use Nexus to go to a city, in the first place. NEXUS is bidirectional, you can use it to go from Elemental to Cosmic, Cosmic to Elemental, and then probably enter/exit a city through it's Nexus.
And if people wanted to raid either plane/city, all they need is a person with NEXUS, and that is setted. You've got yourself transportation. Follow X person with NEXUS
NEXUS Lite being one sided wouldn't help you raid Nil or Celestia, it's only purpose would be for EXIT not ENTRANCE, in fact, the power of NEXUS Lite could stop at the Elemental planes, so you can't access a city through their Nexus. So, to get to Cosmic, you'd need to be following either a Guardian or someone with NEXUS in the first place.
Also, take notice that Master Planar is quite high... um... for some folks. Not everyone would get it, but at least those who get it would be able to return to Prime and not be trapped in any place accidentally.
Manjanaia2005-03-06 19:13:28
Didn't know all that about nexus.
EDIT: Actually nvm

I don't think this is a good idea, for the simple reason that the Nexus ability is rather poor as it is. And anyway, why would you need to escape if you hadn't gotten yourself up there?
MAYBE if Nexus got an upgrade to let us all do the mage/guardian gate things (I STILL don't know what the heck the Nature gate thing's meant to be for).

Desdemona2005-03-06 19:32:30
NEXUS poor? You must be kidding. What is poor of a skill that allows you to enter Cosmic in the first place, allowing you to reach Astral? If you are not a Guardian of a plane, and didn't have Nexus... Elemental would be the end of the line for you.
Also, you would want to escape a plane... BECAUSE, someone took you there, and left you there or you were following someone and got left behind, or your bashing/raiding party got killed and you survived, or you accidentally disconneted from realms abandoning the entire party (the person who got you to Cosmic in the first place), to sum up: to return to Prime, because the person that took you to Cosmic is dead/abscent. In other words, there are 10,000 ways to get to Cosmic (any person with NEXUS, the cypher I gave was just an exaggeration)... but nothing assures you that it will be a round trip. At the very least, people should be able to EXIT back to Elemental from Cosmic.

That's a rather unlikely occurence, the last bit. Oh, and no, it's only Seren that have difficulties with gates. Knights have to take a longer route around, admittedly, but it's quite likely that anyone who can survive Astral bashing can survive 10 seconds of pelting through the Ethereal to the Earth gate. (Paladins don't even have THAT risk.) Remember, there's no guards in Faethorn. Cityfolk barely have any trouble at all getting up planes, it's not just guardians.
Desdemona2005-03-06 19:48:43
Erm, Shiri. I was trapped in Celestia for quite a bit of time with no way back. If it happened to me it can happen to anybody. Also, take a look at the array of events that I provided that sum up to your transport getting killed/abscent:
-You follow a person and five others to raid Nil, only two of those persons have Cosmic entrance/exit. The raiding begins, everyone except YOU die to Gorgulu: YOU are trapped unless you let Gorgulu kill you or are successful to request another cab, or... Nil's defenders can go in an just kill you.
-You follow a person to Cosmic, suddenly either you/them disconnect and don't return until about 6-10 hourslater. No one is in Cosmic to give you a trip back home: YOU are trapped unless you get yourself killed or manage to get a cab.
Cab standing for: a person either a Guardian/NEXUSER willing to go fetch you and take you back to Prime.
Also, my problem isn't the ENTRANCE from a plane to a higher plane... my problem is the EXITING from a higher plane to a lower one. Anyone would benefit from a way to EXIT a plane where you can't escape alone.
Edit: In conclusion, there are many chances for a person to get caught in a plane without a means to return safely by their own means.

Especially with regard to the point you presented about raiding Nil, why does it need to be made easier for you to get out? It's your fault you're there at any rate. If it's not that you're not supposed to be there, you can just ask a cityfolk (or in fact a Seren with powers like that - I'm forever going up there to act as tesseract targets for lost Astral wanderers) to rescue you, and generally they do.
Desdemona2005-03-06 20:05:14
Um, Shiri. Whatever the case... raiding/hunting/defending/sight-seeing... My point is: You lost your cab, no graceful way out. What is so bad with being able to exit? People with Nexus can go raid whatever they want and have an exit... so what is bad about a person having only the means of exit but not of entrance? Is it such a crime or an abuse? Also, yes... there will be people that will be willing to help you. Vesar helped me out Nejii/you helped me in. Case is, that at times people will be busy and not be able to help you... so? You count with your own way out.
Edit: Just something I noticed. I could be "raiding" Celestia... and simply burrow at the face of danger and take a look at Celestia from 6ft under. Just another part of a good trip I don't necessarily exit, but I stay alive.

Tell that to Gruhk who gets nailed 10 times by Nementh trying to get to Earth.
Shiri2005-03-07 17:17:26
Nementh no longer plays, and Glomdoring's unmelded. (So's Faethorn I think. And even if it wasn't, it's not active.)
