The Crown of the Magi has 100 charges and reduces spell mana cost.
Elryn2005-03-10 00:54:36
Hmm, ok... alternatives to the gem thingy:
- A crown that reduces cost in all non-player owned stores by 10%
- An ability to convert between silver, gold, platinum and iron (mwahaha)
- A mirror that has a tiny chance of reflecting magical attacks when wielded
- A crystal that can store power
Meh, all rather powerful, I still prefer the gem thingy. *nod me*

I find the perfect gem useless.
I wish I had Crown of the Magi or that philosopher's stone.

But see, Elryn, all of those rely on magic to work. While the current trans skill does not. It's just a perfect gemstone that is hypnotic, and keeps someone's attention very, very well. I imagine it could work well if you had someone stripping deaf/blind while showing it off. Heck, if you set your demon/pooka to HEAL SENSES, and timed things right, you could do it alone, assuming you had that ent/invest.
Erion2005-03-10 01:33:54
On that note, you seem very, very focused on having a relatively offensive trans ability, while the Tailors don't have one, and I doubt the trans cooking skill is exactly major offense. Same with trans enchantment. Same with alchemist. Same with herbalists.
Enchantment just makes spells cost less. Woo. Alchemist? Better fills. Woo. Tailor? Allegedly better influencing. Woo. Herbalist? No idea, doubt it's that great. Ditto with cooking. Heck, Jewelery has, as I said, a half-way decent group-combat trans skill.

...the jewellery really isn't good...eh, you forget that 7/9 guilds that pick it can't have force commands, and it's highly unlikely you can do it properly as a Nihilist, and I don't know about pooka, probably fairly easy.
But still.
Anyway - the herbalist one gives us faster herb balance. And besides, jewellery already TRIED to have a good offense skill, but it didn't work. :/ It does need something new, to be fair.

It also makes focusing cost less, clotting cost less. Imo it's a serious advantage. For alchemists, I think that stone makes them sip more, not make better fills. At least that's the impression I got from some other threads. It's a serious advantage as well. Don't know much about other tradeskills though.

Erion, how am I focused on having an offensive jewelry ability? The gem is only defensive, the mirror is defensive, and all the others are not primarily related to combat.
By the way, we do craft wands. So I see nothing wrong with crafting a mirror, or a special gem, or a crown that is so stunning mobiles can't help but give you a good deal.

All trades have a useful transcendent skill of some kind. Tailors get to make (what should be) the ultimate influencing tool, Alchemists get a stone that makes their elixirs work better, Herbalists get to eat herbs faster, and so on.Â

Where's my snazzy personal benefit for being trans cooking? I think your gem is just fine.
Elryn2005-03-10 04:28:22
That would be your hero fete.
mel2005-03-10 11:45:38
Herofete isnt much of an individual benefit.. you need have a small boatload of food and then get a minimum of 10 people together for it to work in the first place, though the effects are pretty snazzy once you can get enough people to take part and stay still in one place
Elryn2005-03-10 12:01:46
Aye, it has a fair cost to achieve it, but the fact that it helps others doesn't negate it still works for the cook. And its a damn nifty thing too. Probably one of the better trans trade abilities.
Like I said, jewellers have something that works and is acceptable. But it could be useful.
Edit: However, I'm thinking this is going to be a long way down the list. It's been what, about 3 days now and we still have a major bug that is affecting all mage/druid classes... the new rapture update must be a nasty piece of work.
I just hope Roark, Buho and the other coders aren't going crazy by now!
