It's turn based instead of real time but still a very well done game none the less. If any of you are fans of Strategic Initiative and their Disciples product line this game should have some appeal. The only downside is that it has distracted me from Lusternia. It is also open source, available for any operating system, and completely free.

*Downloads it*

What caught my eye was the 200 unit types and 6 factions to play.

Seeing as how this Strategy Gamers, I'm going to hijack a little and ask: has anyone ever played oen of Paradox Interactive's EU lineup?

Stupid bloody Government ISP blocking me from viewing games sites at work *grumbles*

Praise be to Estarra and Roark and co. for not marking Lusternia as a 'games' website, else I would hardly ever be here.

EDIT: Point was, can't view the link here so I will check when I get home.

Not bad. Very well structured battle system, easy to understand, nifty old-school-esque graphics, pretty good AI from what I've seen. I give it a 6/10.
Silvanus2005-03-10 21:15:57
I give it 7/10, and I've only beat one of the first levels. I suck at it sad.gif.. I never suck at strategy games
Rauros2005-03-10 21:51:05
It really is more challenging than it first appears. The AI is very good at pinpointing your weakest units. If you're not careful, you'll be dead before you know it.

Those Troll Whelps are mean >:(

Turn based strategy games are my weakness. I think they are vastly superior than so-called 'real time' strategy games. Remember X-Comm? My favorite was a little gem called Conquered Kingdoms which kept me addicted for years.

Don't get me started on one though--Lusternia's development would come to a crashing halt!
Rauros2005-03-10 22:19:02
You know you want to happy.gif

No she doesn't! *thwack*

Back to your cage, Estarra! We want more goodies!

Which part of X-com? Basically the first series was called UFO: enemy unknown in Europe, but X-com: enemy unknown in the states. While the second part (X-com: terror from the deep) was called UFO 2 in Europe.
Or maybe X-Com: apocalypse, with sci-fi buildings and weapons a'la fifties and very un-scary aliens?

I'm starting to type in a gibbering manner. I think I need some sleep.

*gape* it has Merman! Looks kinda whimpy though. dry.gif

What would you rate higher? And is it free? I like free.

Master of Magic, I'd give 9 out of 10. It's old, though. For the way the game was set up, it begged for built-in multiplay rather than the add-on hack that fans came up with.

I preferred the feel of XCom 1, but they'd worked out a few bugs and introduces two-stage missions in XCom 2. I didn't much care for the underwater theme, though. Overall, I'd give XCom 1 a 7/10, XCom 2 a 8/10.

Dark Reign (the orginal), while not turn-based, was certainly my favorite real-time strategy game. It came with the Auran engine and doccos, so I could come up with my own units, weapons, base structures, the whole bit. Lots of fun.

Yes, Wesnorth is free.

Alpha Centauri - King of Stratagy, both Turn-based and Real.
Unknown2005-03-11 00:03:29
It's open source and not matter your operating system there is a version available for download. The pre-built campaigns are very difficult. The interface is simple but the challenges are hard.

Master of Monsters was an amazing game.

I'd rate Final Fantasy 3/6 and Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind as a 9. I'd rate Chrono Trigger and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri as an 8. I'd rate Final Fantasy 9 as a 4. I have yet to play a game that I would consider a perfect 10.

Alpha Centauri and Chrono Trigger and both 10's in my book. Gaming bliss.
Silvanus2005-03-11 00:10:19
