Right, it should probably be a two way street if adjacent to enemy territory--unless of course you are in enemy territory and are beckoned into guards in that territory (that's just a risk you take for entering enemy territory).

Yeeess. I'm getting tired of people being beckoned out of Angkrag and slaughtered, and when we repay in kind, we get issued and TDF, peaced, etc. =\\
S'no fun!
Ixchilgal2005-03-13 09:20:35
Right, here's my two cents.
Ethelon, notice how your very statements about "summoning people just to annoy them" and "teleporting to people to hunt them down" follow along the lines of being a griefer? And that your only potentially valid arguements of defending a city or guild member in neutral territory are completely nullified by the "DEFEND" command?
Let me recap a touch, so you grasp the basic implications of this.
1) You regularly PK, or at least, attempt to do so while in neutral territory, for no other reason than to be a pain in the ass (By your own words).
2) Your "valid" PK arguement is destroyed by the fact that if you were, in fact, going to defend one of your buddies, you could easily avoid getting status simply by typing DEFEND (Ally), instead of DECLARE (Enemy).
The simple solution, I should think, would simply be to stop going to kill people in neutral territory. Particularly folks who haven't acted against Celest in any function.
I shall provide an example of such a person: Myself! Lo and behold, an individual who's acted against Celest all of twice, both times while there was barely any sort of organized government in place. Which would be what? Four, five months ago? Arguably, you can say I acted against Celest a third time, when I melded part of Delport, but that was just to be a pain in the ass, and it was fun sitting there shielded in Magnagora watching everyone try to spam me out on it.
And yet, you have felt the urge (More than once, I might add) to teleport to my person and attack me. In neutral turf.
Now, if that's your thing, whatever. More power to you. But stop whining because there's potential reprecussions to your being a pain in the ass. I accept the fact that my being Magnagoran is going to make me an enemy of Celest, even if I don't do crap. So, aside from the irritation factor, I don't generally bring it up.
Cry me a river already. The Karma system was given a very good change, to only really impact the people who make a point of being a pain in the ass...something you've admitted in this thread that you do.
"But Ixchilgal, we need a quote!" Well, I agree. A quote is an -excellent- idea.
"Thanks Ixchilgal. You know, you're kinda smart."
Oh, shush.
"Cute too...."
No, stop. You're embarassing me.
"I want your babies."
...your place, or mine?

I'm actually rather pleased with Karma now, sans blessings. I still think that those are too good for what you pay for them.
You now shouldn't get status for killing someone who attacks you first, if you aren't in enemy territory. Huzzah number 1!
While it sucked at first, the costs for placing and removing a curse now work with how much you kill others, and how much the person you want to curse kills others. Thus, the people like Ethelon are going to suffer for their summon-into-statue tactics FAR more than the person like me, who might get status from say, hitting a raider with Masochism, but them dying from it when they leave the territory they are enemied to. Huzzah number 2!
It might not have to do with karma, but I noticed a snippet about it finally being recognized that Beckon should be a two-laned street. Huzzah number 3!
Honestly, once you weed out the people who will curse you just to curse you, this system could work very nicely. There are a few that will curse just to make your day stink because they are sore losers who died. Granted, most people don't seem to want to curse unless it was warranted, like, say Ialie was jumped by Stangmar, which is a good reason!
Kudos to the admin. It's not foolproof yet, but it's a helluva lot better than it was just starting out.

Yeah, stuff definately turned out for the better.
Shiri2005-03-13 13:24:41
It sure did.
Am hoping for some change on policy to the fear/beckoning thing too, now that it's been mentioned!

Heh, Marsu killed me 5 minutes before the change, a vitae death and then he let me escape I guess. I'm no match for him in combat, he killed me easily.
Ironically, for 5 of my 28 karma points, I was able to curse him at the cost of 100 of his 7 minutes later.
My losses: 5% xp, 5% karma
Marsu's losses: 100% or dealing with my rather nasty curse
Err...not totally sure if that's fair from an OOC perspective.

I don't personally mind the new change. I would however of preferred that we were given a warning time before it was implemented. I currently have about 19 suspects left around 12-15 of which can curse me for 5 karma a piece. Joy?
I lifted your curse within two days. I'm scared to log in at the moment though to see the 10 or so probably waiting for me.
Karma should still be nerfed. They are slowly moving Lusternia away from the combat scene with these new changes. Its like so and so has done this but I better attack them in 30 days lest I be cursed!
Unknown2005-03-13 13:55:05
Calling on you 12-15 suspects of Marsu's. Curse him with everything, I want to watch how broken a man becomes as he writhes in agony beneath all the curses at once. I'd find it entertaining.

You should really join Magnagora. Same tastes and all

QUOTE(Elryn @ Mar 13 2005, 12:40 AM)
Well, it means you can go raiding without any fear of repurcussion. As long as you wait for them to attack you first (ie, go merrily slaughtering guards), you will never bear suspect status. Why?
71886
There has to be a middle to everything. If you kill someone on a highway, fair enough you get suspect and no doubt cursed. Raids are the middle, you raid a villages guards more often than not you're going for the thrill of the battle, for the PK.
Miners are usually due to everyone needing miners
You don't -have- to defend your villages. Each city/commune has enough combatants that will defend regardless of the lack of repercussions if they die.
One thing that I do have a problem with is that I could quite happily sit inside of Angkrag and then suddenly I am beckoned out, what then if I kill said beckoner? I get suspect. How is that one fair?
Summer2005-03-13 14:14:18
How about have to declare to beckon? (If you don't have to already)
And for the raiding and running etc, make it so you don't get protected by avenger if you were in enemy territory anytime in the last 5 minutes?

Bring it on
Ethelon2005-03-13 15:22:08
I'm about worn out with PK and all the stupidity that follows a kill, be it valid or not. With these changes atleast some of us will leave or stop caring about fighting. Also, those who pointed out the defend/declare problems are right...I always declared, like an idiot, but I've changed that so I don't auto-declare anymore. The 15 of you on my list need to just curse me already and end my miserable mud-life...then I can start over as a pacifist
Amaru2005-03-13 15:49:38
What happened to Rhysus and Daevos' treaty against karmic curses?
Bricriu2005-03-13 15:53:13
I believe it was considered Null and Void when celestians started hitting Magnagorans with curses.
Amaru2005-03-13 15:58:11
Without being immature and sinking to 'you started it', what happened to this agreement? It was never officially agreed, no posts were made or anything. I'd like to see it happen.
Daevos2005-03-13 16:17:05
It was supposed to be a three way agreement, and we were waiting on that referendum in Serenwilde to finish. Never heard about it again, after the initial discussion though.
Amaru2005-03-13 16:18:51
Right. Not going to pursue it with Gregori?

I wasn't. I was stating a solid fact - several people who were going to agree with it in Magnagora assumed it was null and void, because Celestians started cursing people.
Torak2005-03-13 17:43:02
Ethelon, you summoned RAVA into statues and Celest..
Apprentice Rava (Male Master Viscanti).
He is 17 years old, having been born on the 1st of Dioni, 95 years after the
Coming of Estarra.
He is ranked 599th in Lusternia.
He is an extremely credible character.
He is a Serf in the Mighty Dominion of Magnagora.
He is a Vagrant in the Fellowship of Explorers
He is a member of the clan called 'The Black Soil Conclave.'
He is considered to be approximately 155% of your might.
He is not currently active in any family.

Ethelon just doesn't like admitting he is as much of a griefer as he really is. Ignore him, and as he finds out his previous way of PK life is going to screw him over, he'll either change it so he doesn't get piled on with curses for his actions, or quit the game out of frustration.
Either way, we all win.
