Emotes, if they didn't take balance, would be somewhat abuseable. So, they take emotes, and give them balance, which doesn't even make sense, to some degree. If I want to let out a bloodcurling scream every time I hit someone... Well, I can't hit them.

Solution:

Give emotes thier own ballance! Makes perfect sense!

Thats.. amazingly genius.

I thought so too. I was talking to a Lusternian on my cell last night and went... this... could fix a lot of problems with emoting!

I wonder how long that would take to code - if it's not too terribly big of a project, here's a wholehearted agreement on my part.

another idea:

we need to be able to target emotes

for instance, I am in the room with two other people, Bob and Joe

If i wanted to bop Joe on the head I would have to
'emote bops you on the head' but in Bob and Joes point of view they would be both be bopped on the head

so why not
'emote bops !Joe on the head' or something like that?
Shamarah2005-03-14 02:34:41
For now, just use 'bops Joe on the head' and they'll understand what you mean. But it'd be nice to be able to do that.

Yeah, I always have to use the name, but then it just has that atmosphere of the person it's being done to being left out, so to speak, because it's like it's being displayed for the benefit of the others.

Well, of course there's no option, so that's totally silly.

But it'd be nice anyway.

(And I like Richter's idea too.)

It is an interesting idea... what about in combat though? I thought that part of the reason emotes take balance is so that you can't use them as system-disrupting illusions in battle.
Richter2005-03-14 04:41:31
*shrug* With my idea, they'd still have like a three second balance, just that it wouldn't interfere. If you see someone do something, that's abusing emotes, etc, it's already ooc.
Alger2005-03-14 05:11:40
using emotes as illusions is bad form i always thought it was an issueable offence... in achaea wed outguild anybody who did it at the very least.

I like that emotes take regular balance because of the combat use issue already brought up. I do like the idea of targeted emotes, perhaps emote slaps {Joe|you} upside {his|your} head. Where anyone who matches the first name sees the second option of all the {|} things.
