I'm hoping this is not one of those bug thingys... but I'm absolutely fascinated with the newly discovered STUDY command. I've found no objects yet that have anything to study on them... but there must be something!

What is its purpose? Why is it there? Has it always been there? Is it just for a skill that I don't have? Is it an archaic learn command? What can we study? Is it a divinely implanted timebomb for inquisitive minds?!?!?

Please, someone put me out of my misery... what -is- this command? I'm running wild with the possibilities!

Well, it doesn't work on the Megalith.
Or Chade...
Not that I would know the second one.
Because he's in the Realms now. rolleyes.gif

I really hope this means what I think it means... but I don't dare get my hopes up!

Someone prove me wrong!

Hold on, what's study? Where what why? Huh?
Shiri2005-03-14 16:25:23
I think it's just like "Kai" :/ Which you can still do. It's probably a leftover. Can't think where from though. blink.gif

It's for learning.

Something like;

STUDY 15 ARTS.

It's used in a library, when you get a Tome on a skill

I don't think its used for learning, at least not like that. Using STUDY or STUDY (skill) or STUDY (number) (skill) or STUDY (number) (object) all gives the same message - "What do you wish to study?"

Only when you target it on a room object do you get something different - "You find nothing to study on that."
Shiri2005-03-14 22:35:55
...hm...would it have been STUDY TOME 15 ARTS? *shrug* If it was a tome on arts.
Rhysus2005-03-14 22:37:27
Studying can be done in Aetolia, in the Spinesreach library, and works the same way that learning does, except that you learn from various tomes in the library. I doubt that this is a leftover from that, though, but it seems surprising to think that they'd codify a verb like that without some purpose for it already existing unless it is, in fact, left over from somewhere.

Was this in beta or something?

Nuts, I was hoping it meant the rapture code update was ready for what we've been seeking for so long!

Maybe it's something before Libraries come out...?

I recall Estarra mentioning that they were waiting for an IRE-wide code update thing.

*shrug*

Heh, no, ROARK said that, ESTARRA told him he shouldn't have. whistling.gif

Right. Sorry folks. I don't tend to obsess over the forums.
