I've played Achaea for 4years. Pretty hardcore and loved it. Its just lost the fun for me and I'm really liking Lusternia. Can anyone give some advice to make the switch?

Don't join Magnagora either unless you don't mind going to the equivalent of the potion refiller near NoT (can't remember her name) until you can find someone who's willing to refill for you (most alchemists I know don't refill for Magnagorans, or say they don't anyway).

Rowena is the alchemist. (And she needs herbs.)

Well, as Roark said, what were you, and what do you want out of a game?

I find Lusternia to have it all, myself. Roleplay, fighting. I, personally, find Magnagora has some of the DEEPEST roleplaying, between characters like the manipulative Bricriu and the extremely racist Silvanus, and of course my personal favourite, the psychotic, hated, abusive, angry, and vengeful pain in the arse Faeslayer.

But if you're one of those people that enjoy RPing a character that's a light-lover, you've Celest. There's the more nuetral Aquamancers, and then the relatively (Note, I said relatively, some people just don't fit this bill) passive Celestines. They're our version of the Priests. They get an angel companion, different depending how far in a skillset they are, investable with certain afflictions depending on the Supernal (think demi-god) you've pledged yourself to. And then we have the mighty Paladins. I, personally, don't like any knight-class, and the Paladins seem to have it the worst of all of them. But there are some that enjoy the class, and there's a lot of room for some pretty liberal RPing.

If you want to do the Nuetral thing, there's the Serenwilde. You have the Moondancers, which are currently running on an Anti-Taint campaign, which puts them in the good-behaviour box with Celest. But they're more protective of the Fae, and the more spiritual aspects of Nature. They have a few ents (think occultist, as far as number of ents are concerned). There's the Hartstone, which are the mages of the Serenwilde, the druids of physical nature. Unlike Achaea's druids, they set up a demesne, instead of a single grove. This demesne has some of the same abilities, but are more offense-oriented, unlike (what I believe are) relatively defensive groves back in Achaea. They also can flow to anyone anywhere in the forest (same with the Moondancers). Also in the Seren is the Serenguard, the shock troops of the commune itself. Knights, basically, who can either follow Stag (and get a few nifty skills, like bonding totems), or Moon (which allows them to form covens, like the moondancers; think group-abilities, like, bards singing together for a Choral; except this is for a heck of a lot more). Supposed to be anti-city in general, but it's been more of an anti-magnagora, at least from the outside looking in.

Then there's Magnagora, the Engine of Transformation, and the only tainted city right now. There's the Geomancers, earth mages, who, like Aquamancers and Hartstone, can set up a demesne and use very interesting skills through it. They are (for the most part) a group of rambling, psychotic freaks. They are, at least supposed to be, a group of maddened freaks running around controling a dangerous element. Think ten year old, a hundred pixie sticks, and a flamethrower. Except instead of fire it controls Earth. There's the Nihilists (Think Apostates), too. They get a demon-pet, and can invest it with a number of powers, number and attack speed depending on the type of pet. They're loyal to the Demon Lords of Nil, which represent different sins (Gluttony, Anger and Avarice, Sadism, and then there's just the Spider, sneaky guy), and then there's Luciphage, head honcho. Yea.

Cities get Enchantments, which have different abilities depending on your skillsets, how far you are in High Magic, etc. And then the commune(s) have Alchemy, for the druids and mystics. The knight classes all have forging, and if they choose low-magic instead of High (only city-class that can) they can pick herbs.

Hope that helps!

Theres something very wrong with that statment.
Rhysus2005-03-15 18:28:17
Whatever you do, don't listen to the opinions of people on this forum. They are all biased and few have the wherewithall to make meaningful arguments that anyone should give more than a scoff at.
Daganev2005-03-15 18:34:12
I would not charachterize Serenwilde as "neutral" in any shape or form. Communes are anti city. The cities are anti eachother.
Nyla2005-03-15 18:39:55
Every guild and city/commune has their pros and cons. It is best to read up and just figure out what role you wish to play in the soap opera that is Lusternia. Oh yeah and faeling plus knight archtype equals craptasticness during novicehood
Thorgal2005-03-15 18:40:04
If you played achaea hardcore, you're gonna love the ur'guard.

Excellent point!

But I think Erion made a nice, well-written overview of his perspective.

My advice is if you are not certain which guild or city to settle in, DO NOT GRADUATE FROM NOVICE FRESHMAN. So long as you remain a novice freshman, you may hop around guilds at no lesson loss until you find the one that suits you.
Typhus2005-03-15 18:42:20
And anti-commune, before we all forget.
Roark2005-03-15 18:47:22
There is some attempt to foster something more than good/evil/neutral. Obviously Magnagora embraces evil elements, but the premise behind their evil is a bit more original IMO than simply being evil "just because", like most other games. The forestals are neutral in terms of being good or evil. Indeed, the Serenwilde's history has some rather cruel aspects to it, unlike most forestals you see out there. But they are not neutral since they are pro-Serenwilde forest and generally are pro-nature as well; or perhaps it'd be better to say that they are anti-civilization. Celest is based on angels and so forth, but that does not mean they have to be good. Their history does have lots of powermongering. They could very easily be imperialist fascists "in the name of the light and the greater good of Lusternia" if they wanted to, and perhaps there is room for that sort of RP. (Though a mortal player would be better able to comment on that state of things than I, and which Celest guilds would be better suited for that. I'm guessing that the Aquamancers would not be too tolerant of that sort of behaviour in their own guild.)
Manjanaia2005-03-15 19:01:47
And read the histories before you join. It'll give you an idea of what all the places stand for, and will help you decide how you want to Rp your character.

Wow, awesome replies. Thanks for all of the tips.
I was a forestal artie whore that loved conflicting role play. When Achaea's conflict went out the window I held on as long as I could. I joined Serenwilde and am diggin it so far. Things are just...weird but I'm not going to quit after an hour or two of actual play.

Any good maps out there?
Thorgal2005-03-15 19:39:46
Yes, read the signature smile.gif.

And it's all normal that you find Serenwilde weird, please don't judge Lusternia using Serenwilde as a standard sad.gif, use Magnagora or Celest.
